It can never be understated the massive pair of ladyballs it took to rip up a picture of the pope on prime time TV and the uproar it caused in 1990s Ireland, just a fucking incredible move.

More in America really especially given the reaction of fellow artists. It utterly derailed her career over there. Kris Kristofferson deserves all the credit in the world for how he comforted her after they booed her off of the Dylan concert.

A wonderful voice. I was glad when her last two albums got all the praise. She was a true unique artist the likes of which we might never see again

I loved the episode, but I felt the fact that it was such a stacked cast slightly took me out.

I thought the same at first, I also thought it was too stagey. However, on a rewatch I really got it. Bob Odenkirk being basically Gene from Better Call Saul made me love it

Hope we see more of Jamie Lee-Curtis in the third.

I actually thought she was the worst thing in that episode.

FORKS from Season 2 in The Bear is an uplifting masterpiece. What a show

I don't think that's true. Stallone, Schwarzanegger and Willis were all big stars in the 80's and 90's, all of them also had massive flops released with them as the star name. Tom Cruise hit huge with Top Gun Maverick, but outside of Mission Impossible (and the latest of those opened soft and had the biggest 2nd week drop in the franchise since MI 2 thanks to Barbenheimer), he wasn't a draw with The Mummy, Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow all flopping (and at least 2 of those films were pretty good).

You get flops. That happens. But the name means they can bounce back. That doesn't happen anymore at all. Margot Robbie was being called potential box office poison there a while back but fortunately BARBIE has put that somewhat to bed BUT if her next film was marketed around her in a non IP role, would it hit? I doubt it now

What is the casual cinema goer going to do, pay to see it on the big screen, or wait 2 weeks to watch it for free on a streaming service they already pay for? Top Gun Maverick was famous for saying you want to see it, go to the Cinema because it won't stream for 6 months, and people went. People now have a choice of a short home release window.

Indeed, and it has self defeated the studios. But on the star thing, what has happened is you now have shit loads of straight to streaming movies that barely enter the public consciousness. Ryan Reynolds is really only known for Deadpool, yet has been in about 5 awful Netflix films. The 'star system' of Hollywood is fucked, and I doubt it returns.

  5. The problem is studios don't make films that make people Movie Stars anymore. You're instantly forced into a superhero suit. Chris Evans is a fine actor but he's not a star. Captain America is. It's the same with Directors now. You do a cool indie film and you're instantly catapulted into a mega IP machine. Some can manage it, but you're not getting Directors like Nolan or Tarantino again who can open a huge movie with just their name attached. Fucking Scorsese has to beg streamers for money.

I was thinking about this while watching the BARBIE movie. Gosling and Robbie are superb in nearly everything they're in. In a different era they would open movies on just their name alone. But this isn't an industry for them anymore. I mean Brad Pitt can't even open a movie anymore. I don't think it's being 'back in my day' nostalgia to say that the modern landscape of films is depressing. Hopefully things might change. Last weekend shows that actually good writer/director led movies that are well marketed WILL have people at the cinema. But you know the execs won't take that lesson from it

The thing with the Saudi money is that it’s not the fact it’s coming from a country with values and laws that we might consider archaic or backwards it’s that it’s coming directly from a regime that quite openly and freely does some fucked up shit. It’s easy to say, well all money is dirty land look at all the atrocities in America or Britain but unless it’s the US government or UK government putting that money down it’s not the same. It’d be like the Tories giving an unfair advantage to a team by making allowances just for them and giving them a massive financial leg up. It’d be like Chelsea.

Yeah exactly this. I know a lot of it is Twitter, but the reaction to the potential Qatari takeover was eye opening to peoples stupidity on this issue

These secondary allegations are vague at best, and although they don't paint the mystery presenter in a great light, I'm not sure they also offer anything illegal either barring maybe some expletive filled messages.

Agreed and seem to be over the fact that the person on the dating app was going to put it on social media. Someone being a dickhead shouldn't really be mixed with someone doing something illegal

The tales of the two actors actually disliking each other at times during filming adds another layer of intrigue to the show, and I'm glad that they've let bygones be bygones now.

I honestly think they fancied the shit out of each other and that was the cause of the issues. I don't think there's been 2 better looking leads of a TV show.

One of my favourite episodes is BAD BLOOD just utterly hilarious. That show could go from frightening to comedic episode by episode. I loved the funny ones. Up until season 6 I loved it. Wasn't a fan of the last few seasons and the reboots, while having some good moments, just didn't sit right as Duchovny just isn't that nerdy guy anymore (He's basically morphed into Hank Moody)

Still rewatch every couple of years, and if I'm ever a bit bored I'll throw on a random episode. It reminds me of being a kid watching it with my Dad

  9. THE GRIFTERS Anjelica Huston just fucking steals the entire movie. She's utterly superb and weirdly sexy as hell. Cusack is as good as ever as the nice guy but not a nice guy shtick that he perfected in that 90s run. It's a really dark movie, and you can see it as one of the bridge films from the 80s to what was to happen with the 90s indie film explosion. As a Jim Thompson fan I was really happy they kept the ending and actually built up some of the weirder/uncomfortable elements. It's up on Youtube, so no reason not to check it out (bar maybe having a life or something)

Wonder how long that will fly with Warner Bros. Discovery top brass, who have shown they care about nothing but money recently.

I would say having lost significant amounts on flops in the genre, it will probably be looked upon as a good thing, especially as WB are saying they want to concentrate back on theatrical.

    Unless I've misread this point?

You have and you haven't if that makes any sense! Those are little moments that are nice but they're small. Indiana Jones is still just a guy having adventures, like James Bond. You can hint at stuff, and have some moments, but the moment they try to make the film about the 'character' it falls down. Maybe it's why Last Crusade is my least favourite (though I do still love it!) as I felt they want a bit too much on that (but not OTT) I wont say anything else as I'll be discussing the new film.

By the way, it isn't terrible or anything. I just...I dunno it didn't feel like how a film like that should feel.

  12. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane is about as perfect a casting as you cant get.

I saw Gunn interviewed recently and he basically said they're going to do less movies and concentrate on them being actually good. I just hope he makes a fun SUPERMAN movie that makes me like the main character. SUPERMAN is interesting in the right hands

I did not particularly enjoy Indiana Jones & The Dial Of Destiny. It’s better than Crystal Skull, but not by a huge amount.

Same. Just BLURGH. Was I supposed to feel something? I don't care about that in an Indiana Jones movie. Stop making him a person, it never works.

Shoddily directed as well which was somewhat surprised me given it was Mangold. Just felt like a waste of time.
