I read that Barney's job is as an actor so thought that maybe he just isn't very comfortable with the presenting side of things yet. Then I caught a bit of his acting in Casualty and confirm he's more wooden than a Giant Redwood tree. Zero skills of any kind and a complete charisma vacuum.

I read some headline suggesting people wanted Barney to be the new Charlie. He'll be lucky to get that long in minutes let alone years.

  2. Well the second series has been confirmed so that's good.

And got to watch the final live with the kids so that was a nice experience even though neither of my picks won.

    Loved this too.

What made you think that? It's generally late March or early April so that would've made it the latest one ever, topping only 37. That one was held on the 10th & 11th of April because they wanted to delay it as long as possible until enough Covid restrictions had been lifted to actually get a crowd in.

Because I have absolutely no perception of time around this time of year. It's a mad rush of Mothers Day, two family birthdays, Easter and the kids school holidays and tax year end at work. So Mania's date does come a little way down the list for me.

  4. Mercedes and Jade are two entirely different beasts. And you can't discount the change in scenery for both as a big reason why they can be presented as big deals and feel fresh. WWE are doing a great job with Jade but there's a lot more opportunities there. If she'd stayed with AEW they couldn't have really done the same.

  5. I'm a big Pat fan. I love the genuine enthusiasm and that he has a really great time out there. I love that he brings the best out of Michael Cole and they obviously enjoy working together too. I can see why he'd irritate some people but just to have a natural fun feeling to commentary really adds to the product for me.

To be fair, wrestling is full of big stars who don't 'comeback' well.

Cena has been very good at it, Austin was hit and miss, The Rock has been all over the place... I think there's a middle ground between a tribute to the good ol' days and being the biggest star on earth.

That said, I'm not sure it's all The Rock's fault. I just think he's such a fucking massive star, with more natural presence and charisma than every other big star in wrestling combined, that its very hard to not swallow everything around him and make them disappear in comparison. I'm not a huge fan, as discussed, but I think he either turns it on and he outshines everyone or he half arses it and it comes across like a cheap tribute. I don't think he's capable of anything else.

I think if we've got him back, we'd all rather he put in a decent shift. I don't think it's an ego thing or deciding he has to be the biggest star. I think he's just putting the work in. He has mostly come across as a guy that respects the business and I think business is at the forefront of the decisions especially now with his position. I'm sure he thinks everyone will come out better at the end. And while we don't know the longer term plan, I highly doubt he's gone in there to bury Roman deliberately and put himself ahead.

That said, and as great as that segment was, it does feel that The Rock has decided he needs to be the top guy in WWE and that’s pushed people out the way and I’ll be honest, not keen on that aspect of it. Makes for great TV I know, but I just don’t like collateral left in his wake.

And yet you got people moaning about him turning up and doing a half arsed tribute act. So he can't win really.

  8. Well, when they want to switch it on they really switch it on, and couldn't have come at a better time.

I know there will be the inevitable "but what about Roman!" posts. I could almost hear the typing as I was watching it. But if you're not inclined to think too deeply or over-analyse it all (which obviously we are. It's a wrestling forum.) then the Cody/Rock stuff was just really fucking good. And yeah, either they've gone to the extremes with the swerve or we're potentially keeping heel Rock. I think I'd be happier with the latter. All credit to the guy. He's putting the work in. I hope they book a smart match at Mania so he doesn't break and tear everything as I just want a satisfying conclusion.

Tough one though as everyone's loving The Rock when he's turning up. Hopefully this week will shift the balance a bit and get the crowd behind Cody more. I think it was needed.

Rhea/Becky is a challenging one as everyone loves Rhea despite her being a heel. She's just a cool one. So there's not quite enough of the face/heel dynamic to make it a strong feud as such, but it still has that big time feel just because of who they are. And Becky bringing the emotion is a good move. I think that'll get more people behind her, although the crowd at Mania will definitely be split.

Punk/Drew was as fun as you'd expect. Whatever the real feelings are there, they're definitely both making the most of the opportunity. Drew especially. I'd be absolutely gutted if he left at this point. They need to give him what he's worth, but it depends if he thinks there's enough left for him in WWE or if it's time to spread his wings again a bit. Either way, the guy deserves success.

There was some other stuff. The Ricochet match was good. I do wish he had a bit of a personality so they could push him properly but hey. Definitely worth checking out the Rock/Cody and Punk/Drew stuff if you're Youtubing anyway.

Not sure how they'll keep the momentum going after this as it's a tough one. Peaked a week too early? We'll see, but for now they're cooking. Yeah COOKING.

  9. Thinking I can "rest my eyes" and just listen to the TV and not fall asleep. Can I fuck. Guaranteed to wake up at 1am confused in front of something that has finished. Or even worse something that whatever streaming service I'm using has continued to play episode after episode of.

  10. I always thought Helms got a fair crack multiple times in different ways. If he came along now, I think there's a lot more people around capable of doing what he could do and better. If anything, he'd potentially struggle more now.

  11. At first I thought it sounded stupid. Then five minutes later I looked for my old school route and watched that because I'm really fucking dull. Raging at the number of red lights though.

Could stick it on my VR headset and watch that way, but probably more embarrassing getting caught watching that than porn.

  12. I genuinely remember more about The Shield than I do about Roman's solo stuff between that and his current run. Either it was incredibly forgettable or just so bad I've buried it down deep with the other bad stuff in my life.

Forgive me if I’m repeating myself but I wonder how much longer Roman really wants to go on. The length of his title(s) run has been very much “Well, we said we’d make you top dog. We know we made you wait too long and jerked you around on the way first time round… and second time…. and third time. Well - here it is, you’re the guy.” We know he’s fought cancer twice. We know he’s been working limited dates already for a couple of years. Some online mutterings a couple of months ago suggested he’s been saying how tired he is, that it takes him longer and longer to recover after each match. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s got one more of the “Big 3” left in him before riding off into the sunset after Mania 41.

That has been something I've wondered - that this is his last big run, and then he gives himself a proper break. This was a run that was almost never possible. They probably want to make the most of it while they can. You just never know.

Completely agree with this. Don’t feel like Cody has lost anything from all of this. Roman completely looks like he’s playing second fiddle to his family member.

The best he looked was telling The Rock to acknowledge him but outside that he’s looked like a bit part in all of this and I don’t think it’s anything he is personally doing - it’s the way it has been written.

Depends what the long game is really. Assuming Roman loses, what happens after this? That's always been a very big question. There's plenty of opportunities to get his heat back after all this. If the plan is for Rock/Roman at some point then it all makes more sense. In fact I've always enjoyed the paranoid side of Roman's character. I think that's always been the main weakness whenever we've seen it, so if this is all a long game by Cody/Rock then it makes sense. If it isn't..  well hopefully they'll keep Roman strong in the rebound somehow. I highly doubt they've invested this much time in him just to leave him as a side character.

  15. Cody is the closest to a pure babyface main eventer they've had since Cena or Bryan. He's out there kissing babies and going to kids birthday parties and a bazillion other things. I'm not sure they could get much more traditional if they tried. He's Hogan without the racism.

  16. My joy at seeing unexpected Sabre didnt last long. (Thats what she said).

But mostly raging over the end of the women's eliminator. Come on! Wrong person won damnit.

  17. Is it all losing momentum or was it just a shit crowd? Tough to know really. All companies get that once in a while. There's a lot of assumptions going on.

I think the telling thing will be the Mania reaction and how things go after that. If they can transition into something people care about too. That's always a tough one.
