Had another trot through the Robocop movies (1-3) at the weekend when I saw they being removed from Prime at some point in the next 30 days. Verhoeven puts some great movies out, and Robocop is a banger. The satire, the over the top violence, so enjoyable from beginning to end.

Irvine Kershner tries his best with the second one, but the writing lets it down. The bit where Robocop gets reassembled with all the new prime directives and turns into Robo-PSA présenter is amusing, and it's a country mile ahead of the third one. It's just a shame it didn't have anything from the original score in it.

Robocop 3 is pretty bad, but it was always going to be when they decided they wanted it to be targeted at the same audience as the animated series. It doesn't help that Peter Weller is away making Naked Lunch. Robert Burke gives it a try, but he's not great, and doesn't have the best material to work with. The removal of the violence etc also leads to a massive tonal shift.

I've never seen the 2014 one, or the Prime Directives series (which I hear is supposed to be decent).

Robocop is one of my absolute favourite films.

Youmight have seen it already , but if you’ve not caught the Robodoc series that’s on Prime yet that’s definitely worth a go if you’re in the midst of a Robocop fix

Their first UK show since 2017 and Chester passed away, their first as a "newly formed" band and it's at the O2 which really isn't a big venue.

That was always going to be a hot ticket.

I'm not arsed as we've seen them loads but my ex has just managed to get 2 for her and my eldest, which is great.

I hadn’t realised that it had been so long since they last played here, so yeah that does explain a fair bit. Also goes to show that the people booting off online about how it wasn’t “what Chester would’ve wanted” are clearly a very loud but very small minority. Didn’t realise it was for September 24th this year, I.e less than 2 weeks away, i presumed it was September 24th 2025

I’ve never been to the O2 either so was of the impression that it was seen as the big London venue in terms of an indoor show.

Fair play for your misses managing to a couple of tickets though, hope they have a good time

  3. While I was never a big fan of Linkin Park back in the day (Slipknot all the way mate, just ignore that Corey and Shawn are twats), I saw some of the comments about the new frontwoman last week and also that they were touring again.
Intrigued by how much they’d be charging, I figured I’d hope on over to the on sale that’s just started for O2 Arena. Do not underestimate how much of a draw they still are, was around 86,000 in the queue, and all I was wanting was to see was the price (I have since left the queue so an actual punter can try their luck)

  4. Watcher is the one set in Romania isn’t it? I remember liking the trailer for it when I saw it at the cinema (can’t recall which film it was shown ahead of) and thinking “ah cool, I’ll check that out when it comes out”, only for it to never surface at any of my local cinemas

All I know about Peaky "Fookin" Blinders is the middle aged dads who went to the school of LIFE and HARD KNOCKZ who post memes with Shelby smoking with things like "I only trust me, And my own" and bollocks like that. The Male version of Minion memes.

It also led to a lot of people who claim to like Nick Cave, by which they mean they like ‘Red Right Hand’. Stick on ‘Loverman’ and see how much they like him then

  6. I’m similar in that the more I hear something being hyped the less likely I am to watch it.

If I like the premise of the show I will still watch it at some time, like at the moment the wife and I are currently watching Mindhunter (which finished 5 years ago), but far too often nowadays a show comes along that get labelled the greatest thing to have ever existed, only to have get completely forgotten about 6 months later after a couple of other shows/films have been called the greatest thing to have ever existed.

I did try with Peaky Blinders but tapped out at the end of the second series because it’s shite

If anybody fancies voting for my band Swamp Coffin in this poll Metal Hammer are running about the top 15 tracks of the week it would be much appreciated.

We're top at the moment, fighting off Linkin Park, Opeth and Spiritbox

Picking between yourselves and the new Hidden Mothers track is genuinely the most difficult decision since ‘Daddy or Chips’. I’m just going to have to keep listening to both đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž.

Looking forward to both new albums for you all though

Are we actually going to have a pay per view without Jericho stinking up the joint?

I hadn’t even clicked that he wasn’t on the card. My interest in this as a full show has just skyrocketed

  9. I’m sure there’s nothing I could say about the Swerve/Hangman angle that hasn’t been said already. Great stuff

I’m so sick of the ‘one or both beats the count at the last second’ spot, not just in AEW but just in general. It’ s used at least once every week, twice in fact on this show. I’m sure someone knows an example of it actually happening (I’m sure there was an incident involving Chad Gable a few years ago),  it I just find it eyerollingly tiresome.

What have they done to Jamie Hayter? She look a right wally in her Budgecky Lynch gear.

Completely forgot that Deonna Purrazzo was even in the company

Sticking Okada in 20 Minute Time Limit matches is a masterstroke to get him working at an actual pace, long may his reign as Continental Champion continue.

  10. Yeah, defo need to go with Totoro second in that double bill. Dont get wrong, Grace of the Fireflies is an excellent film, but you’ll need something to bring you back up after it

Quite upsetting that across both Dynamite/Collision and All In, the only person pulling double duty so far is Chris bastard Jericho.

At least his Fozzy show got downgraded to a smaller venue. Not quite “Puppet Show plus Fozzy”, but not far off either

My Cineworld are doing that season (I booked to see Forever as well, fuck the haters, I like that one). The omission of the Burton ones is weird and my only reasoning as to why is both Batman and Batman Returns have had various screenings there in the last couple of years so probably saw it as too soon.

I think this is the first time MOTP has had a cinema release in the UK?

It had a few screenings during the pandemic round my way as I remember umming & ahhing about whether to go or not. Decided against it in the end so this will be my first time seeing it on the big screen.

@Devon Malcolm is right though, important to know that LEGO Batman is getting shown too. An excellent film and take on the characters

  13. For anyone not aware, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is getting another little run in cinemas next month to coincide with the Batman 85th Anniversary.

The other movies seem to be getting showings later in the month, although I’ve not seen any listings for Batman 89 or Batman Returns at my local cinema yet

  14. As some of you may know I do the Inside Oz Podcast.

It always cheers me up when actors from the show either work together again or just randomly bump into eachother. Theres always been a great camaraderie amongst the cast, as seen here between JK Simmons and Adewale Akinnyoye-Agbaje, who reunited for the new film The Union

    Yeah loving that so far.

Went to Bloodstock for the day yesterday. If anyone was thinking a British double of Architects and Malevolence on top might backfire, they were way off base. Easily the two biggest crowds i've seen at Bloodstock, it was rammed.

Great day, bands were on top form.

I’ve seen some clips of Malevolence, and yeah they seemed to be SUPER over. Bloodstock are claiming 901 crowdsurfers for their set, which is so obviously bullshit we shouldn’t even dwell  on it, but yeah they’ll certainly be back.

Ive tried with Architects, but they’re just not for me. Fair play if you dig them though
