Yet as usual, Bandit rolls with the punches, embraces it and pulls through for his children.

I think this nails Bandit to a tee, and what makes him so relatable. There's times where he'd clearly just prefer to be scrolling on his phone or lounging on the sofa, but he always chucks it in and gets involved with his kids instead. He ends up happier  in the end, and so do Bingo and Bluey. He's a superb role model for any father and not some unachievable, unrealistic pariah.

  2. I read the first six or so Sandman trade paperbacks, and I kept hopping from loving the series to gritting my teeth through the  boring pomp and arse sniffing. I think I quit around the time the story shifted towards following a toddler around dreamland as his mom slept.

I've heard almost nothing but good news about the TV adaption though, so I'll definitely be giving it a whirl. The one complaint I've seen bounded about on Twitter is there not being much deviation from the comic or not much in terms of reimagining certain aspects, but after my heavy disappointment with the Preacher TV series, I'm totally okay with that.

  3. I think every upper-card wrestler should have a video games boss weak point, it makes for a more layered and exciting presentation. Miro was great, but was even better with the duff neck as it meant that your flippy lads had a chance at toppling the giant with tornado DDTs and accurately placed kicks.

Matt Jackson has had a bad back for a decade. CM Punk is going to have his foot be a constant target. Hangman Page has his insecurities. MJF needs his battle royal ring.

I fucking love this shit about pro wrestling, and no company really leans into it.

  4. A team leader position just got announced at work, one which actually interests me and doesn't impede much on my new family life.

I looked through the internal application page for the job details, but found nothing.

"I know!". A massive cartoon light bulb appeared above my head.

"I'll email the general manager for details about the job, thereby putting forth my initiative, enthusiasm and can-do attitude before even sending off a CV!".

Colour my smug face when I send off the email.

Then colour my smug face a few seconds later when I find another page of the internal site that clearly has all the info and job details, and I'm hurriedly writing a "Ha! Ignore that email! LOL!" message back to the same fucking manager before he's even replied.

Well that's fucked it. I'm going to have to walk past his office at some point today too. Oh fuck me.

  5. God damn, Garcia vs Wheeler was great. William Regal mentioning on commentary that he (and the rest of the BCC) will be disappointed if Wheeler even uses one of his rope breaks had me almost shouting at the telly when Wheeler was in dire stratus near the end.

"Don't touch that fucking rope! Fight your way out, lad!".

Brilliant stuff. The rest of the card was good-great, AND was under three hours long too which is fucking perfect for a wrestling PPV. Get to fuck with these overly-long, bloated AEW PPVs.

extremely milquetoast modern liberal thing to say but it is quite the thing that what sinks him is the legality of using money from his own company in the eyes of the corrupt stock market rather than the morals of being a sexmon beyond redemption.

The big break in the FBI finally sending Al Capone down wasn't all the bootlegging, racketeering and murder. It was tax evasion.

  7. Jarrett pulling a 2005 Hogan at GCW's biggest show ever and going over their biggest home grown star with the promise to return the favour, only to fuck off and sign with WWE in a top-tier executive role and reap the benefits is fucking hilarious. What a worker.

Hold on. Do they actually make you pay to play the meagre selection of arcade machines? How does it work? do you have to buy tokens from the themed bar?

I remember a menu above the bar, that had game related cocktails on it. We were so disappointed with the place that we didn't actually play any of the games.

Yep, you had to buy their own currency in the form of these coins and those acted as your chips to play the machines. Much like yourself, I didn't play any games and just sat outside on the benches because the system is a half-baked scam. The board games place next door looked more fun, and I bet their customers didn't have to slap down cash for some monopoly money.

I finally went to NQ64 in Brum at like 2am and I wouldn't really recommend it, multiple machines had faults and I'm sure they're just left there without much maintenance at all. Fun if pissed up which I'm sure is the goal.

Yeah I wasn't a fan either, mainly because I'm an old fogey who thought the repetitive dance music was too damn loud, but I also wasn't a fan of the McCurrency gimmick. Not being able to just drop my own coins in a machine and play a game takes something away from the arcade experience. Maybe it's better during the day when it's quieter, who knows.

  10. IVP Videos have two Blu Rays which collectively cover vol 1 - vol 33:

    BJPW Deathmatches V.1 (1-18)

    BJPW Deathmatches V.2 (19-33)

    I've used IVP plenty over the past eight years, very trustworthy. They've also got a Patreon where they curate some content behind the paywall, so you might find what you're looking for there too;

I mean the problem is that they're often the gatekeepers against anything remotely modern or that dares not to be a very specific kind of metal, you see it all the time with "this isn't real metal" type comments.

Fuck, I like a lot of bands from back then but to only listen to that same stuff? I'd rather kill myself.

I think it was @BomberPatwho had a great post ages ago about people who never got past the music they got into during their teenage years, either on purpose or without knowing that the whole world had passed them by. They just got a few Kerrang albums and thought "Yep, that'll do me for the next twenty years".

A band who are not only fucking terrible but also have also portrayed some questionable political stances in recent years

Musically, I've known they were shit since I first saw them on a music channel in 2006.

Politically, I've known they were shit since the lead singer got frustrated at the lack of crowd response during their Download 2009 set, so he started calling the audience all sorts of horrendous homophobic slurs.

The theme tune to Spatz was definitely used for a level in Micky Mouse Castle of Illusion, I'm convinced

    This has blown my mind!

CITV was definitely best. I was always a cartoons kid, and had no interest in watching real people on my TV screen unless it had Neil Buchanan or whacky gameshows involved. Who wants to work a hard 9-3 at school and then spend your free time watching other kids and adults? Boring middle class lah-dee-dah types, that's who. Even the CBBC versions of CITV staples were dull. Art Attack or SMART? It's Neil and The Head every fucking time.

I've just seen our very own @Accident Prone make the bold statement that CITV was vastly superior to CBBC, as it was fun and CBBC was boring.

And I still stand by it!

  13. Justice for Bob.

    Justice for Benny.

    Justice for Eddie.

I loved most of the season, and most of the annoying quirks (such as Vecna turning into the King Of Exposition) were offset by style and panache. A couple moments where I teared up, and they were both around Max's dances with death.

The way season 4 ended does feel like things are organically coming to a head. The finale episodes were a bit messy but still fantastic, and there was a lot of filler jammed into the previous episodes to make sure all the background and storybeats were on course, but was still incredibly enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to see how they tie all the stories together in season 5, and my theory/prediction for the ending is some sort of time travel gimmick involving the upside-down, maybe with Eleven sacrificing herself to save the gang, Hawkins and the world, essentially ending series 5 where series 1 started, only this time Will isn't sucked into the Upside-Down, the innocent victims are back to life, and all the kids live normal lives without much an inkling of what went down.

  14. I don't know if it's already been brought up, but the event was to ultimately promote NFTs and other assorted metaverse/crypto bollocks. I don't think they care how many people will show up.

  15. Found this in a market stall in Stratford Upon Avon on Saturday. The punters loved it and could not stop pointing and laughing. I was there with the in-laws, and my young sister-in-law stood dumbfounded as an older lady explained the joke to her.

"Y'see...Del Boy acts all normal...and then...HE FALLS THROUGH THE BAR!".

A wonderful day. Happy Jan 8th to all those who celebrate.

  17. I'm gonna be your typical pro wrestling message board negative nancy. You might want to skip this, MPDDT.

I don't think the show is worth the PPV cost.

This is a card suitable for a Rev Pro or ROH joint show. You'd probably chuck 10 quid to watch on their streaming services, and then you'd have the whole back catalogue to look through as a bonus. You'd chuck 30 quid at it to go live and see all these names up close in a 1000-2000 seater venue. But it's not worth the PPV cost.

Even with the FITE email discount, it's not worth the punt. Even with my bank of FITE credits, effectively making the show free, it's not worth a go. There is almost nothing of consequence on this show, no matches that are guaranteed to hit the star rating highs, and next to nothing in terms of storyline investment. So whether you're after excellent matches, excellent storytelling, or excellent blow-offs, (or all three, which is what AEW used to be excellent at), the card isn't up to snuff.

It's going to be a fun show. Possibly a very fun show. Expectations are largely low and hopefully all the critique lights a fire under the roster's arses and they go out with a point to prove. Even then, knowing that they'll probably go out their way to put on the best show possible, it's not worth the PPV asking price, and I'd be pretty fucked off if I was one of the many who bought tickets, flights and hotels immediately after the show was announced.

Anyway, I'm done being the Debbie Downer. I'll watch the show on some dodgy site on Monday night and wonder what all the fuss was about.

But if I told you that there was a 5 star match on Impact last week, how many members of the board would genuinely check it out and how many would probably not bother as they don't watch the show week to week and aren't inclined to care?

People are pretty tribal when it comes to wrestling, moreso than they'd like to admit at times.

    Fair point.

Well if it is your first time seeing Okada, it kinda sucks that it's gonna be in a 4-way match, and it also sucks that the 4-way match involves Adam Cole and Jay White. Okada vs Hangman would've been a straight-up barn burner.

So to have him trot out on Dynamite in a last minute shitty casual appearance for a 4 way clusterfuck at an already underwhelming PPV.. that doesn't hit right.

You only get one chance to make a "first" impression when you're turning up somewhere like this. And it was shit.

Not denying any of that. The 4-way is a bad idea (the card desperately needs a couple more main event/upper-card singles matches and you've got two ready made with there), Okada didn't seem thrilled to be there and the PPV is underwhelming and won't impress anyone who isn't a fan already.

I just find it odd that dorks like myself on an AEW-centric wrestling message board in 2022 haven't seen a single Okada match.

    2 minutes ago, RedRooster said:

If you don't buy that people here haven't seen an Okada match, I don't know what you'll make of this - not only have I not seen him wrestle, I had no idea what he looked like, and that episode of Dynamite was the first time I'd ever actually seen him, period. (I was, obviously, aware of the name)

Again, I just find this ODD. I'm not trying to start a fight with anyone or be insulting (apologies if I am) it's just odd coming from pro wrestling message board users in the year of smartphones and smart TVs in the year of our Lord 2022. Definitely a "me" thing, clearly.

  20. I find it really odd that people are talking about AEW on a pro wrestling message board in 2022, and they watch the week-to-weeks and PPVs, and they've got Hangman Page avatars and they are talking about how Forbidden Door needs Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi...

These same people haven't seen an Okada match? He's been heavily involved in MOTY discussions for the past ten years, and his best matches are readily and easily available to watch right now with a few mouse clicks, and these same people are talking about Okada's "first impression"?

Sorry guys, I don't buy it. It just doesn't hit the ear right.

Oh, and the surprise opponent for ZSJ and B&G is William Regal, isn't it?

EDIT: Just read this back for the 6th time now and I mean no ill will towards anyone with this post, I do find it genuinely odd.
