Superb as always from Mr. Pie. He seems as disillusioned with the Labour Party as me. They’re letting the Tories get away with murder.

I saw Jonathan Pie at the Bloomsbury Theatre last week - second time I've seen him live. Great fun.

Every company is different, but the counter offer is always, to me, someone to distrust (maybe that's not the right word but its early)

"Hello manager, I've been offered £50,000 elsewhere. I'm thinking of going"

"Oh drone, don't leave. We'll match or better your current pay and give you some extra responsibilities, as we value you so much"

"OK, so why has it taken for me to tell you I'm leaving for you to decide/relay this to me? If you valued me that much, you would've acted earlier"

    "........."

Not always that black or white of course, but it's always something to be considered. But then I was recruitment scum that used to put that thought on my candidates heads as I'd want them to leave their job for my personal gain.

    Best of luck @HarmonicGenerator

I take a different view. Of course every company is different, but we all work with different budget constraints, labour turnover challenges and different roles will be business critical to the organisations success. That means that company's will have some roles and functions that they will be prepared to pay over the market rate for to attract and retain, while there will be other roles that they are prepared to pay under the market rate for an accept higher turnover or accept that they may need to counter offer on a case by case basis.

My company is no different, and I have certain departments where we pay very generously and others where we do ongoing candidate sourcing as we accept higher turnover as we are not competitive on the salaries front, but I'm also open to counter offers if I can eye ball the job offer and it makes sense to do so.

I've heard so many recruitment consultants use that argument - don't accept a counter offer, they didn't value enough in the first place.........but they only play that card as they don't want you to turn down the new role and lose them commission.

I've personally done this once myself in 2014 - gone back to my employer with a job offer in hand and let them make me an offer to stay - got a 20% pay rise and promotion out of it and I had zero regrets. I wouldn't take it personally - your compensation package is always a negotiation and these scenarios give you leverage - so let it play out, it's just business.

Yep. Until you’ve signed that contract it’s your decision. It’s not uncommon for people to have an offer and take that offer to their current employer and say “Do better or I’m off”. It’s a big decision so it would be unreasonable to expect an answer there and then.

People even sign contracts and then back out before starting.......happens all the time.

  4. @patiirc bringing in an external HR Agency will come at significant cost, more than a Settlement Agreement would to make the situation go away, which tells me there is more to this than you know. This feels like it’s going nuclear, you don’t have a full view of the facts and have been dragged into this against your will.

You are relatively senior and given you have 2 years service, have employment protection. As such, I recommend forgetting ACAS and shelling out to consult an employment lawyer and potentially have them act for you. Check your home insurance policy to see if it includes legal cover for employment disputes.

  5. Very odd. The Chief Executive Officer doesn't raise a grievance against more junior employees! They may host a formal investigation and if there is a case to answer, then formal disciplinary action. Ive never heard of the scenario you describe.

If there was an investigation, they may interview as a part of that, but can't compell you to raise a grievance.

Sounds like this CEO wants this guy gone, but doesn't want to get his cheque book out and do it via a Settlement Agreement, so instead is trying to throw as much mud as possible and see what sticks.

  6. Interesting. My joining date shows February 28, 2002. However I recall finding the forum the day after Owen Hart's death - maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

I also remember the previous board and having to re-register, when we moved from one platform to this one. If thats the event that @JNListeris referring to, then I have no idea why my registration shows Feb 2002. Maybe I lurked around for a while.

I'm sure that'll be lovely, but as someone that has lived in Basingstoke,  I'm struggling to get my head round it :)

Boringstoke......I lived there too for about 5 years. Best part of Basingstoke was the exit back onto the M3. That and the Agra balti house on Winchester Street.

Is "Field watch" a vaguely militaristic term? What's a "hackable" movement?

A hackable movement is one where you can stop the second hand dead on the hour mark when setting the time, which means you can set it more accurately.

Field watches are simply military watches dating back to WW1, or they were. Now its just a design type, although some are still used by military today. Christopher Ward have a whole range that is associated with the UK armed forces here:

The C65 Sandhurst is on my shopping list at some point, but they are pricey!

    Cheers again 👍

Definitely considering the Kamasu, not sure green or red though

Assuming you've heard of field watches, I'm catching the watch bug so also in the market for one as well as a dress watch!

When I think of a field watch, I think of the Hamilton Khaki Field watch. Swiss made, Jomashop have loads, like this: https://www.jomashop.com/hamilton-watch-h68201993.html. At the cheaper end, some of the Seiko 5's will do the job, if you don't mind that the movement isn't hackable - Amazon sell the SNK809K2 for £120.

  11. Got promoted to a Vice President role today. I'm over the moon and have been celebrating with the team all evening. It means the pressure is off in terms of my wife needing to return to work after maternity leave.

    Feeling amazing.

Adam Cole's contract has officially ended with WWE, no word on an extension, but reports are he hasn't signed one.

The Bucks have changed their bio to a video of 'How to perform a seance' and Britt retweeted it with a 🤔 emoji.

Could this be one signing too far? It's hard to imagine a place for Cole other than as a Kip Sabian for Britt.

With Danielson still to come in, Wyatt heavily rumoured and now Cole, as much as I trust the AEW process, it seems to me that they could run the risk of flooding their own roster like WWE did.

They have a lot of time to use with Rampage, Dynamite, Dark and Dark Elevation, but will people be happy to drop from Dynamite to Dark? I trust them, I really do, but I worry they may accidentally shaft themselves.

The tide has definitely swung in that it seems AEW is the place to be.

I really don't care about Bray Wyatt as I'm not that familiar with his work. But I'd be delighted for Adam Cole to come in. Perhaps joining up with Kazarian to take on the Elite - not difficult to write that feud. If he does come in, I really hope they get David Rolfe's "Something For You" theme for him.

I'm convinced they are planning for Rampage to be a 2 hour show when they move to TBS. Maybe move it to Tuesday also?

It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The way they hit his music without any pissing about. The way he alluded to WWE without it ever coming across as bitter. The way everything was geared towards pushing the new company and the new talent. The way they actually sold a match on pay per view. More than anything else though, just how happy he looked. How happy the commentators sounded. How happy everyone was. Fans fucking weeping. Him being on the verge of tears and then diving into the crowd. My God. Incredible.

Only time will tell what the ceiling is with AEW. It feels higher now than ever before, but whatever. Regardless of how big they eventually become, with each passing show it’s becoming clearer and clearer where WWE left the goal wide open. It’s got very little to do with who’s got the best wrestlers, who’s got the best interviews or who’s having the best matches. It boils down almost entirely to which show gives you a good time watching other people having a good time. Taz laughing his arse off at the line about ice cream bars and then immediately scoffing one on air. So, so great. A moment making me feel so happy and rewarded for watching used to be a rarity. In AEW, it’s just called a Wednesday or a Friday.

There’s a beautiful irony to a new company bursting on the scene and rather just saying they put smiles on faces, they actually do it. Every week. And it keeps getting bigger and better. Amazing.

Does Aberdeen, Washington have an arena? I see no reason why they can’t do something similar for Danielson. Announce him without announcing him. It’s clearly fucking genius.

The population of Aberdeen, Washington is less than the capacity of the United Center!

  14. I've seen some people say they are subscribing to AEW+ for last nights Rampage, Wednesdays Dynamite and then cancelling.......madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd cancel Netflix before I cancel AEW+ on Fite - the value is incredible. Could any true wrestling fan cancel after THAT!?

  15. That was one of the all time great moments, executed perfectly. At 40 years old, I think I'm now more engaged in wrestling than I was even as a teenager. Tony Khan, you are a legend!

A couple of weeks ago someone asked me if I'd picked out the match I'd introduce my son to wrestling with, when he's old enough to watch.....I've got one in mind, it just hasn't happened yet - but it will probably be CM Punk vs Kenny Omega for the AEW title, headlining a PPV - which I suspect will be the Revolution PPV 2022 back at the Wintrust Arena back in Chicago. What a dream match!

AEW is everything I hoped it would be and more. I say Dynamite beats Raw in the ratings inside of 12 months......or at least gets close. For what they are paying Punk, they must expect him to bring in at least 200-400k more fans per week. Then you add Bryan Danielson into the mix, they must surely expect another bump.

Adam Cole next to jump? I hope so.

    What an era.....

How does everyone see this playing out, should it happen?

Route 1 seems to make the most sense. Darby Allin and Sting come out, challenge the ‘best in the world’ only to get Omega and The Young Bucks. They heel it up a bit, situation threatens to go sidewards. Cult of Personality hits, out comes CM Punk and the three lone wolves run off the heels. Show ends with them standing in the run.

Maybe let Punk try a GTS on Omega only for the Bucks to pull him off and run away.

I wouldn’t give away any real physicality or a promo. Maybe a promo to the live crowd, but not sure he has to do anything but turn up for TV.

I think Punk is the first segment. They are on at 10pm, just after Smackdown. The card looks weak.....I wonder if his reveal is segment one, shenanigans ensue, the card is shuffled and he ends up in a tag match in the main event.....so the fans just don't get to see him, but he also wrestles a tag match to ease him back in. He probably needs a few warm up matches ahead of All Out.

I'm after a divers watch, 200-300 notes. What would you recommend?

    Orient Kamasu, without a doubt.

Start with this review, but there are loads more on Youtube. Sapphire crystal, in house movement, £200

The black one is currently reduced on Amazon to £178. The red one is £190.

BUT....if you can stretch, and want a Swiss watch, I'd definitely fork our a bit more and go for the Tissot Seastar. It's my favourite watch in my collection and is currently 30% off at Jomashop (grey market) - it's imported, but yours for £365 plus import duty. That watch retails in the UK for £645.
