There was also the fact that the Rock often punched down on lower down wrestlers/other staff and their characters usually had no chance to even answer back or have their comeuppance in the ring.
These days a lot of his promos would be considered bullying by some.
I thought that at the time. Poor Kevin Kelly.
Always thought Stone Cold came across as a horrible bully too. But it was the style back then I guess .

I thought the last season was probably the weakest - you can tell they were struggling with the events of 2020, both Covid-y and relating to police, and there are some timeline issues. But the finale is really good and a strong end for the show as a whole.

Just finished watching the show and thereâs been 10 pages of discussion since it aired! Here are my thoughts anyway just in case nobody else has had them:
- Hook is outnumbered against 2.0. He needs backup. There has never been a more perfect moment for Hookhausen to reunite. I was fucking crushed when that all turned out to be a setup for Action Bronson. GIVE ME HOOKHAUSEN.
- I enjoy how Geordie the disgruntlement is whenever PAC runs into Orange Cassidy. Iâm hoping for a âhadaway and shite, manâ at some point next week.
- Kingston and Ishii was fun, like Eddie decided to have a vintage-Japanese tribute match. Crowd still loves him.
- Opener was your standard stunt show until the end, where my thoughts were as follows.
âA bunch of masked guys?
Oh fuck, this better not be Adam Cole.
Stokely? Whatâs going onâŚ
Whatâs that music?
I know that music.
Thatâs âSympathy for the Devilâ!
No. It canât be.
Thatâs him, thatâs definitely him.
Fuck! This whole angle with Stokely and the business cards was ALL PART OF THIS!
Thatâs brilliant. This is GENIUS.â
And then the little fantasy booker in my head started working overtime on how this show might end.
- Hangman needs a big win soon. He feels lost right now and it might be deliberate or he might be slipping lower down the card than he should be.
- Jade as She-Hulk - BRAVO. I donât care what her matches are like, sheâs leagues ahead of every other woman they have for star power. Thereâs nobody remotely close to her. Keep that belt on Jade forever.
- FTR/Wardlow six man felt like the least important match on the show (though maybe itâll lead to FTR vs MCMG, please thank you very much) but the ending with Daxâs daughter was bloody lovely and made it all worth it. A tear was shed.
- Ricky Starks still looks a star but Iâm surprised how quickly that match was over. Made Hobbsâ spinebuster look deadly though.
- The Acclaimed! Wow, what a match. Swerve playing the prick fantastically, Bowens selling the hell out of that knee, molten hot crowd⌠loved it. Maybe my MOTN.
- Fine with JBJP vs Christian being an angle. Iâd have enjoyed a standard match but theyâve reheated something that had really cooled off so thumbs up.
- Womenâs match should have ended with Britt pinning Hayter or vice versa. I guess their storyline doesnât need the belt, but since AEW donât really go in for womenâs angles that donât involve a belt⌠maybe Toni Storm shouldnât have won. (I mean ideally they run with both but itâs AEW, itâll be one or the other, prove me wrong Tony)
- Danielson vs Jericho was very good but if theyâd shaved five minutes off it that would have been fine. Jerichoâs entrance graphic pointing out heâs 3-0 against Danielson made me sure he was losing this one. I was wrong.
- House of Black match didnât need to be on this show.Â
- Main event was good. Aftermath wasnât completely what my inner fantasy booker predicted (Iâd have shelled out for the Rolling Stones again for one thing) but I guessed a fair bit of it, like recalling Punkâs devil line from 2005. MJF for the belt!
Overall, another pretty good show. Off to read the 10 pages of discussion!
EDIT: 10 pages later. Well. That all sounds a bit shit. I just wanted to talk about the show and MJF and the tag titles and Sympathy for the Devil and She-Hulk Cargill⌠-
Iâve seen a few wrestling t-shirts out and about this summer and theyâve all been AEW ones. Mostly Danhausen and HOOK, actually.

On route to Cardiff from Ireland
Seen a few UK tapings before but this is a different kind of excitement. Match card is what it is, could be better could be worseÂ
Enjoy the weekend everyoneÂ
Hope you enjoy it! Youâve been so hyped for this show for months now on this thread, I hope it lives up to your expectations đ

Spotted this morning Iâve got enough Fite Credits to get this show for free. Itâs the least hyped Iâve been for an AEW PPV in forever* but itâs not costing me anything so Iâll give this one a go, and Iâm sure Iâll have a good time with it.
Â
*technically since Forbidden Door but that doesnât count does it?

Corlys and Daemon are two of the MVPs of the show so far, looking forward to seeing them sharing some scenes. Rhaenyra and Alicent are also great. You can sense all these tensions just bubbling under the surface ready to explode into dragons wrecking shit all over the place. Love it.

A smaller roster is fine if there's a decent Create A Wrestler mode. Even like the SmackDown 1 one where Viscera and Mideon were already there as templates and you just had to put them together. Have we heard if there's one of those?

So Colt's been shipped to Germany to keep away from Punk?
Heâs been doing a show at the Edinburgh Fringe as well, something heâs been doing for quite a few years now. So probably not that⌠or not just that anyway.

That doesn't include the ITV1 repeats I believe they still do late night and that small percentage of people that stream elsewhere.
I had no idea they'd made it onto ITV1 until this week when I saw Rampage was on Tuesday night just after the news. How long have they been doing that?

I also agree completely with @RedRooster(I think it was) who said that part of the reason it felt bad that it was in the middle of the show. It's not like the main had a clean finish, if they've ended with this I think it would've hit different.
Putting it at the midpoint of the show made sense to me. We've already seen that World Title matches on Dynamite have the potential to go the full hour - if anything, putting it here telegraphed it less. If the main match starts 20 minutes before the end of the show, well, I guess that match is going around 15 minutes. Here, it's less predictable, but has a logic to it, which is nice.
Also on this episode, it's the best Will Ospreay has looked in AEW, but I still thought PAC was better than him in every respect.Â

Isn't the game just going to get DLC for a while. Rather than a new game every year?
With the amount of new wrestlers turning up in AEW on a fairly continuous basis, you'd have to think so. Then again, SmackDown 1 was nearly a year out of date when it came out and that didn't make it a worse game.

Apparently in the books , the scene where the women present their favors, one of them is like 7 or something đ¤¨

I know it's no book spoilers but for anybody has read the book, does the story appear to be a direct adaption or just a rough retelling? I'm tempted to grab a copy of the book but don't want to spoil it completely
I think the events will largely be the same, but the characters and perspectives could end up very different. The book's written as if a maester from Westeros has written a history of what happened, and he in turn is using three different people's accounts of the events. So what we read is George RR Martin's translation of a Westerosi history based on three sources that may or may not be reliable. Which means there's a lot of wiggle room to change characters' motivations and behaviours, if not the big stuff like "this battle was followed by this royal proclamation, which then led to this other battle".

I bloody loved the first episode of House of the Dragon. I hadnât quite realised how much I missed seeing that world on screen. Itâs retained so many of the elements and details about Game of Thrones that I loved. Canât wait for next week.
-
I welcome No Way Jose to AEW, I quite liked him in NXT and he was showing more than one dimension towards the end of his run there, before being reduced to a single note character on the mains in WWE.
Let him dance through the arena, let Dark Order dance with him, let Danhausen do a little cursed dance, let Orange Cassidy almost bust part of a move.

Weâll be going to Barcelona next April for Springsteen, havenât booked anything yet so any tips will be appreciated!

I read Fire and Blood last month and the story theyâre telling in this show is definitely one of the most interesting and dramatic parts of that book. If theyâve ironed out some of Martinâs more particular tendencies like the way he describes the sexy bits / makes everything about sexy bits but trying to make it less weird by it only being from one characterâs perspective, and his fascination with the tedious Iron Islands, this show should be brilliant. Corlys Velaryon and Daemon Targaryen are brilliant characters, Olivia Cooke is playing someone who doesnât get much in the book but itâs Olivia Cooke so sheâll probably make her the best thing in it, and SO MANY DRAGONS. Iâm excited.

Hook! That match lasted exactly as long as it should have.
There was a thread on here not too long ago about âunderwhelming dream matchesâ. Iâd like to add Orange Cassidy vs Mark Henry to my list. I would love it if their interactions over the past two weeks about âlooks like thereâs been enough talkâ are the first steps of a slow slow build to a match. Gimme!
Claudio vs Dustin should be a great match next week. -
Had no idea Rosey was around as early as â96. Wonder why it took until 2002 for him to get on the roster proper.

This is conjecture but Iâd be surprised if Pleasance werenât pushing him as one of their biggest draws of the festival before this.
I live in Edinburgh and Iâve been to a few things at Pleasance so far this month and I had no idea he was performing until Keith posted in this thread. Not that Iâve been looking out for his posters specifically, but Iâve certainly not seen any advertising around town for him - and thereâs a lot of Pleasance advertising around town.
-
Great opening segment with Danielson and Garcia. Their match next week should be fantastic.
I was going to express my disappointment at Sonny Kiss finally getting back on the main shows only to get squashed by a Trustbuster, but then the ending happened. If putting up with Trustbusters means Sonny gets back on TV, then letâs go Trustbusters!

That Shelley promo was excellent. Shocking heâs never had a title shot before now - I hope he wins.

See How They Run is good fun, with Saoirse Ronan comfortably the best thing in it. Sheâs great.
