I think the issue nowadays is that it's the stupid shit that gets traction on social media ('Michael Jackson' wrestling, Super Humman and previously Joey Ryan etc) and gets passed around by non fans as a way to laugh at wrestling.

I'm not saying wrestling has ever done itself any favours in not being laughed at before but I have non fan friends who send me this stuff with a 'lol' as if to go 'You're a 40 year old man and you like this shit?'.

It's embarrassing, and if its more embarrassing than being a 40 year old wrestling fan in the first place then you know it is REALLY embarrassing.

That's not the case in this instance. My friend enjoyed wrestling for the silly gimmicks so has genuine fondness for the likes of Luigi!

Is anyone going to the London Film Festival? I'm going to some as press and managed to get quite a few Galas screenings (Matilda the Musical, Glass Onion, The Whale, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Eternal Daughter and Living), quite looking forward to it. Batista will be at the Glass Onion one, I plan to tell him about UKFF so he can talk about wrestl... film.

They’re showing quite a few of the films at cinemas across the country - the Tyneside in Newcastle, Filmhouse in Edinburgh etc. Big Dave won’t be showing up, nobody will be showing up, but we’ve got tickets for Matilda, Banshees of Inisherin and Glass Onion anyway.

  3. There’s a few in there I can see happening - but I wonder how far through he’s going to get before he loses the belt. Chances are that’ll happen before they resort to bringing in Aries or dealing with Low Ki. Whatever happens I hope the story ends with someone winning it, vowing to return honour to it and then buggering off with all the rest to make ROH its own thing.

Jericho vs Castle would be fun.

  4. My wife puts up with me watching Dynamite on the tablet on a Thursday night, but she very rarely pays it any attention. Saraya got her attention this week - “it’s … it’s her! Florence Pugh’s character! Is she back? Is she fighting, is she commentating, what’s she going to be doing?” I didn’t have answers for her, and I had earbuds on so she didn’t actually hear any of the segment, but the fact she became interested because Saraya was there was worth mentioning, I thought.

I also woke up this morning to a message from a friend who has had zero interest in any wrestling since 1999, and the message said “Luigi Primo is back!”

How to hook in new viewers? Pizza, no matter how problematic the pizza guy is.

(I did mention that to him, and his response was “but it’s wrestling, they’re all terrible people, what does it matter”, so… yay Luigi, I guess!)

  5. I enjoyed the first episode and I quite like Durin but every episode since the first has seen me end up on my phone while it’s on.

It looks stunning but over five hours in and I’m still not sure what the story is or if there is one. The other Middle Earth stories (on screen anyway) can be easily summed up, and then expanded and developed and complemented. LOTR: there’s an evil ring, the fellowship have to destroy it. Hobbit: bunch of lads need a hobbit to defeat a dragon. This, though: ?

  6. I enjoyed that show more than Dynamite this week. The Muta moment in the opener was great, Hook’s match and Joe/Wardlow were fun, short, feel good matches, Fenix/JBJP was great and felt fresh in a way because it was two AEW originals. Jade Cargill continues to be a star, Hangman/Moxley is now set up, and the main event gave Starks and Hobbs the time they would probably never have got on PPV. Good show, though I hope Julia Hart’s okay because that looked nasty.

Firstly why is every single fucker in this English?

Excluding the Mexican protagonist, the Puerto Rican female protagonist, the Scandinavian mentor, the American antagonist, the American droid and the three or four Scots who had speaking roles, you mean? What an odd criticism.

Cheers Monks. I'm down for the match as usual (Croydon), but have a gig in North London after it so I was looking for somewhere central-ish. I stay near London Bridge usually when the footy is a weeknight/weird kick-off time, but even my usuals are hitting the ÂŁ200 mark for this night. Thankfully I've got some mates who always offer me a bed after the match - because I'm down every fortnight I never take them up on IT as it'd be regular intrusion, but for this particular weekend I'm going to have to.

Thanks to you and others for the recommendations though.

The Travelodge in Walthamstow is one of our go-tos - it’s normally pretty reasonable and right on the Victoria Line.

The internet just turned on The Pizza Guy that was on last week's episode, turns out he's a big antivax lad and supposedly lied about it and continued training with people.

Sometimes a Reddit AMA isn't a good idea.

Ah for fuck’s sake. Wrestling giveth with one hand, and with the other remindeth me that it’s wrestling and of course the guy’s a twat.

I actually skipped this match entirely. I just didn’t care. It was a very unusual situation for me where the title actually took away from my interest in the match. I doubt Khan will do it, but AEW would be so much better off if they just unified titles en masse. If every feud revolves around a title, there’s little diversity in storytelling.

I’d go back and check it out. The title aspect has no interest to me, but PAC’s never been a grumpier bastard and it’s beautiful.

Rogue One is a great film, not just a great Star Wars film. Am I best rewatching it beforehand (not seen it for a few years) or can I just go straight into Andor

You can go straight in I think. It’s helpful to be reminded where Cassian ends up as a character in the film, but there’s no callbacks (call-forwards?) or anything  that’d affect your viewing.

  12. I loved the first three episodes of Andor. So much. The third episode in particular might be my favourite episode of live action Star Wars TV. Really good.

However, I am that person who’d happily put Rogue One in their top 3 Star Wars movies and cries when K-2SO dies, so this show is pretty much made for me.

Also, DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE TOUCH TONY SCHIAVONE.

This all day. What a BASTARD. How dare he!

Speaking of bastards, I loved PAC vs Orange. The match itself was fairly straightforward but the two of them had clearly defined roles and characters, and they both played them to perfection. Really good stuff.

Enjoyed the main event a lot too. I’d have liked a Danielson win, but I can understand Mox winning. Feels like a regretful “we should never have had you lose it last month, sorry about that, now let’s pretend it never happened” kind of deal.

  14. Mrs HG and I were also considering another Paris trip this winter, with the new Avengers Campus as the excuse (not that I needed one). It looked like mid-January was the cheapest time to go but I got very confused looking at all the different price options, so if there's a handy prep guide for getting the best value I'd also find it very useful!

  15. Over the last few months, it’s almost always been Fatal Four Ways at the top of the cards. What do you think the reasoning was? Was it a bigger draw than singles matches, was it to have something different to TV so people would buy tickets, or was it a way to give the main eventers an easier schedule because you can have rest periods if you’re one of four?

  16. My wife’s gone to New York this week with her sister and I keep trying to convince her that she’d be much better off popping to Queens for Grand Slam but for some reason they’d rather watch Harry Styles at MSG.

If they’d only announced Luigi Primo I know she’d have been at Arthur Ashe front row centre.*

*not true. If they’d announced Luigi Primo the entire place would’ve sold out instantly.

  17. Had a dream last night and in part of it, Stokely Hathaway had got a high level job at my work. He said some really hurtful things to me and I woke up with a nasty worried feeling which meant I couldn’t get back to sleep.

I was looking forward to Ethan Page vs Danhausen on Rampage this week but Stokely accompanied Page to the ring and I found I couldn’t bear to look at the screen after what he said in my dream. Ruined the whole match!

  18. Why isn’t anybody talking about LUIGI PRIMO.

Who is Luigi Primo? How, with a single second of screen time, has he become my favourite wrestler of all time?

Why is he not advertised for every forthcoming AEW show? When are they debuting “Luigi’s Pizzeria” as a talk show segment, where Luigi Primo invites wrestlers to talk about their current feuds while he spins dough?

    BRING ME LUIGI PRIMO!
