Up to the penultimate episode of True Detective: Night Country. There’s a lot to like about it but it’s definitely not the return to form some would have you believe. It’s not even as good as the third season. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis make up for its biggest short coming which is basically a lack of plot. The quasi super natural/psychological elements give it a nice horror tone which fits well with the literal dark setting. I just wish they spent more time on the actual case which set up as really eerie and fucked up in episode one then made way for how uber alpha and broken the two female leads are.

I remember my mate come back from Afghanistan and he had a highlight reel of his combat cut to some generic rock music. Fuck knows what that was all about, not sure what he was expecting from me here either. “Nice murdering mate.” Still better than people’s holiday pics though.

They’d have to be very careful with their use of Gonzo for number 3.

I want Cody to overcome all the odds. That means Bloodline shenanigans and everything. Have The Rock no show the shmoz then Roman go awol post mania leaving the family in disarray until Uncle Rocky pops in and says he’ll restore the natural order against Cody at Summerslam. Then have him refuse the lads help and lose with Roman returning the next night on Raw and him and the boys beat the testosterone therapy out of The Rock.

What do you want from them? They stick with their original plan and it's shit. They listen and change things and it's shit. You can't have it both ways.

 

Well the simple answer is that they don’t convolute and do multiple swerves on very simple wrestling stories that sell themselves. The stink of that will wear off though and Donald Trump Rock will be interesting to watch from an anthropological view and I still have faith in him pulling off a Hogan at Mania 18 and being able to go in a match made for and around him and his current strengths.

Imagine how much more anticipated this years Wrestlemania would be if they’d had The Rock run interference against The Bloodline last year allowing Cody to beat Roman fair and square then a year of quiet build for The Rock vs Roman. Everything they’ve done so well over the past few years yet they’ve completely shit the bed when it comes to making their next top guy and putting on one of the few dream matches they have left.

I’m not entirely sold on Cody doing an about turn and taking on both The Rock and Roman but the idea of Cody promos and The Rock’s corny arse promos coming together is a fascinating concept.

I also reckon no matter how Cody ends up winning whatever belt they’re definitely going to use an unsuccessful cash in to make it up to him. “See you are our guy, you beat Seth and Priest in one night!”
