Cody Rhodes and CM Punk in AEW

If Punk didn’t go to AEW, I don’t think we’d have Punk back in wrestling at all. I think things had to play out as they did if he was ever going to end up back in that company. And if he had, I wouldn’t bet against a situation in which he implodes in WWE, leading to him moving to AEW. I suspect part of the reason why he’s not upset the applecart in WWE is knowing it’s a last chance saloon for him.

Probably Cody. I could see Punk being a lifer in WWE now, moving on to help out in NXT post-retirement. But if he were to leave WWE, it would be after an implosion meaning AEW would be mad to go anywhere near him. 

I think we’ll see Cody in AEW again. It might be far in the future after his in-ring career has wound up, but I do think it’ll happen.

If Punk wasn't brought in then. It's the question that would have kept being asked by fans from all sides. If you get to the reveal of TK buying Ring Of Honor the talk of Punk would intensify. Then Cody leaves. How do you answer for the loss of such a star, go get the bigger star (at that time).

Didn’t it come out that Punk had secretly tried to get back into WWE before AEW anyway? I reckon he’d have returned regardless. All the counter-culture, “place that got me sick in the first place,” stuff turned out to be hypocritical bollocks. Might have been shocking at the time. Less so, now.
