Paid Members Egg Shen Posted February 5, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 5, 2025 The most impressive thing about MVP is how he makes everyone he fights completely gun shy. It doesn't make for exciting fights and is more often than not extremely frustrating but its crazy how many people just end up fighting the exact same way against him. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted February 5, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted February 5, 2025 Yeah there’s something to be said for that. You could see at times on Saturday that Shara was bamboozled and just watching MVP do his thing. There is a skill to it. It just doesn’t make for entertaining viewing. Reminds me a bit of when Lyoto Machida was on the rise and he got similar criticism. The difference is Machida did end up proving he could get those highlight reel finishes against elite opposition and became champion. MVP’s nearly 38, he’s not on the rise and it seems he can’t really create those magic moments against top comp. Quote
Dai Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Yeah, MVP vs Wonderboy would have a 95% chance of being abysmal. Just been glancing at MVPs record, and Bellator did a genius job of protecting him during his initial run. To be fair it worked completley, as I think the bulk of his reputation still comes from that initial 2014-2016 run, 7 fight unbeaten run. His whole aura comes from that run, but the best thing he did in that run was beat a washed up Cyrborg Santos with a disgusting knee. Even after his Semtex and Lima fights, when he was at the peak of his popularity, he fought 3 wikipedia-less fighters and a UFC Asian Fight Night prelim guy for his next four. Since those, hes done nothing of note really, so for him to still be getting these big UFC fights in his late 30s is very interesting. Quote
