Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 19, 2023 Author Paid Members Share Posted May 19, 2023 Yeah the stakes thing doesn't really hold weight, Bellator title fights have a certain element of prestige and the tournaments have big prize money in play. The fans may not feel the stakes and that may kill interest but it shouldn't have any kind of impact on how the fights play out.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted May 19, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 19, 2023 Would it benefit Bellator to perhaps copy WEC by going for a smaller cage and similar ruleset, do you reckon? I remember someone (let's face it, probably wand) saying that the smaller cage in particular was conducive to exciting matches, because it forced action and prevented overly drawn-out tactics-fests, plus the ruleset meant you couldn't get away with being inactive for long. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 19, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted May 19, 2023 I’m not sure how big Bellator’s cage is compared to UFC/PFL etc. I do think a smaller cage helps to some degree. But then, they use the smaller cage at the Apex and it doesn’t always translate to good fights. Although the lack of crowd obviously has a big part to play in that. I think with WEC, it was a combination of the smaller cage plus the fact that the promotion only featured the more exciting weight classes of 135-170 in the heyday. It was a beautiful combination.
