kev2050
War Machine TKO'd Roger Huerta in round 3 last night. Â Good win for War Machine, bad for Huerta who's lost 5 of 6 now. Apparently Huerta came into the fight with broken ribs though. Â I know a lot of people hate War Machine, but I think he's not as bad a guy as everyone likes to make out, and he's an exciting fighter too. I hope he works his way back into the UFC. David
In relation to the Thompson vs Pudzy match... Â <-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler First of all, I was surprised to see big Mariusz had lost a fair bit of "show muscle". He actually looked like a legit MMA fighter, and his cardio had improved because of it. Don't get me wrong, he's a sub-standard fighter at best, but he should be commended on his improvements. Â What did Thompson expect? The whole fucking show is built around Pudzianowski. If you don't stop him, you're not winning the fight, it's that simple. He must have known that going in. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 27, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted November 27, 2011 OK I posted the other day in the Past Fights thread about an online feud years ago between Michael Bisping and Cyrille Diabate. I asked if anyone knew any other instances of 2 fighters getting into it like this online. Well, what's the chances? Mike Pierce and Rick Story are having a pop at each other now.  Started with this quote from Pierce talking about Story's behavior in a sparring session  "This kid drove all the way from Iowa. He was a wrestler, a wrestler looking to be an MMA guy, he hardly didn't have any experience, out to Vancouver, WA to learn how to fight. And you know, [the trainer] was getting frustrated with him because he was doing what beginners do when they get beat on by a guy that's really experienced, you know. He was covering up, backing away, putting his his head down. Typical beginner-like stuff. And he [the trainer] was getting frustrated, so he told myself and Ricky just to go in there and knock this guy out. That's not what you do to teammates, man. There's a time and a place for that, but in the training room? That's probably a little far.... I refused to do it, and I went in there and sparred like you're supposed to spar. And Ricky went in there and just starts wailing on the guy. And keep in mind that this kid had already had some sort of a head trauma anyway, where he was having vertigo issues. He would sleep and lay in his bed at night and look at the ceiling and it would spin. Okay, obviously there was some sort of a head trauma with the guy. And then, Ricky goes in there and starts wailing on this guy.... Now you know, we're just boxing. It's just boxing sparring. So the guy takes a knee after taking a few nasty shots. Takes a knee with one hand on his head and the other one waving off saying 'Hold on, hold on, my head', and then you know, [the trainer's] all over saying 'F**k it, keeping hitting him'. So Ricky grabs him by the back of the head and starts uppercutting him in the face, like that's okay?... I was just shaking my head, like, you gotta be f**king kidding me, man."  Story's posted this response on Sherdog http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/rick-stor...pierce-1905347/  They're both in the UFC, both at 170, neither has an upcoming fight and they now have beef with each other....
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 28, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted November 28, 2011 Diego Sanchez vs Jake Ellenberger is official for early next year, it was rumoured to be on the 2nd FOX show in January but the date is still TBC.  And some new fights have been added to UFC 144 in Japan. Gomi vs Sotiropoulos, KID vs Vaughan Lee, Garcia vs Zhang and Mizugaki vs Cariaso  card now looks like this  MAIN CARD Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson (Lightweight Title) Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Ryan Bader Mark Hunt vs. Cheick Kongo Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields Joe Lauzon vs. Anthony Pettis  PRELIMS Yushin Okami vs. Tim Boetsch Takanori Gomi vs. George Sotiropoulos Hatsu Hioki vs. Bart Palaszewski Norifumi 'KID' Yamamoto vs. Vaughan Lee Steve Cantwell vs. Riki Fukuda Takeya Mizugaki vs. Chris Cariaso Leonard Garcia vs. Tiequan Zhang  Fuckin tremendous
David
I'm thinking that if I'm Kid Yamamoto I'd rather not be on the card at all than in the pre-lims against Vaughan Lee. This guy used to headline shows in his home country, scoring wins over fighters like Royler Gracie, Genki Sudo & Caol Uno. Now he's fighting a relatively unknown English guy with a record of 11-7. Â He's 0-2 in the UFC, but when your first fight in the promotion is against Mighty Mouse you're always in for a tough time I guess. A shame, as I wanted to see Kid in the UFC for years, and thought he had the potential to do well.
Shane O' Mac Version 2
Perhaps they're just trying to give Kid a "gimme" fight in Japan. Isn't Lee a striker, as opposed to the wrestlers that have been stifling Kid? Â And Sot vs Gomi, yes! I was wondering when G-Sot would return, he's one of my favourites, despite his recent bad run. High profile opponent too, if both men weren't coming off losses you bet this would be on the main card over Lauzon vs. Pettis. The thing with Gomi is while his striking technique is pretty poor nowadays, he still has a lot of power in those swings, and it was a powerful swing that KO'd the Aussie in July. Isn't Lee a striker, as opposed to the wrestlers that have been stifling Kid? Â Lee has some flashy striking but he's more of a BJJ guy really. KID should take this but really who the fuck knows with him anymore? He really isn't the same fighter these days. Look at his last fight with Darren Uyenoyama. That was meant to be a gimme for KID and he was clearly the faster, more explosive fighter imo. He just never pushed the fight and let it slip away. He'd do all the work of getting in striking range and then just not throw, its really frustrating. On the rare occasions he his hands go he looked good but for the most part he just danced about and let his opponent dictate the fight. Â On paper you'd think KID has the more powerful strikes and has the wrestling base to keep it on the feet, so should beat Lee. But if he comes in like he has his last couple of fights he could well lose this. Lee isn't a world beater but he's very active and aggressive. If KID is gunshy like he's been recently Lee could nick it on just on activity alone. Â I'm hoping the fight being in Japan will awaken something in KID cos he needs it badly. METAL ON METAL
Thats a pretty stacked undercard, and quite the fall from grace for Okami.    In other news:  Mariusz Pudzianowski's controversial majority-decision win over James Thompson in this past weekend's KSW 17 co-headliner has been changed to a no-contest. Company officials today cited a judge's error for the change. I wonder what kind of error? Surely if someone scored the bout for Pudz but meant to score it for Thompson, it should be changed to a Thompson win.  Better than another loss on his record for Thompson though. David
Does it really matter though? Thompson having another loss on his record isn't going to make the difference as far as him getting a call-up to the UFC anytime soon, is it? He took a freakshow fight against a guy who has had an entire Russian MMA organisation built around him. Â You know that you either have to beat him comprehensively or stop him. David
Polish then. It makes no real difference though, does it? It's a farce of an organisation offering semi-decent cash for Thompson to get beat up by their man. A win over Pudzianowski isn't going to change him from a joke into a contender, is it?
