it's a weird mish-mash of guys, but that's pretty f'n cool. Don Frye!!

Could have done with Sakuraba and Fedor, but still I am very happy with that.

Sakuraba is tied to some video game deal over in Japan and despite the obvious that Dana wouldn't want Fedor in the game, he is still contracted to EA MMA (I believe it was a 3 game deal he was signed to, as was Couture) - most of the other fighters were signed to one game deals (like Hendo ect.).

Metal, noticed you know a bit about UFC's Sunderland contingent. What do you make about De Fries fighting Broughton now? Huge step up from the Thompson fight for him.

Has anyone seen the My Channel (219 on sky)? Currently showing MMA Fight which is what I can only describe as grimy badly lit UK Bar cage fights. Described as The Best of British. BAMMA this isn't.

Undoubtedly a much harder fight, Broughton even beat Thompson last year.

As I mentioned before, I train at the same place De Fries trained (up until he left 3/4 months ago) and I've seen him in quite afew local BJJ tournaments. His ground game really is one of the best in MMA in the UK, certainly the best at HW imo. He is a 4 stripe Purple belt in BJJ under black belts Rodrigo Cabral/(formerly Aaron Naisbett, my trainer) who study under Leo & Ricardo Vieira, who are two of the very, very best in the whole world - Ricardo is a 9x World champion!

I didn't get the chance to roll with Phil on the mats while he was still here but I watched him alot, when he and our trainer Aaron (a legit black belt, the only one in the entire North East) grappled with each other it was a sight to behold, just awesome stuff.

His boxing is sometimes far underestimated by opponents, he is deceptively strong with the natural power in his hands akin to a Velasquez - the punch bags at the gym needed replacing afew times. He can sometimes be sloppy and drop his hands at times and still needs to work alot on his technique to his punches (he's trained at Alliance MMA the past few month so he may have already) but the good far outweighs the bad with his boxing.

I think speed will play a massive factor in this fight, Phil is lean and very fast for a heavyweight. His speed/reactions played a big part in his last fight (win against Stav, largely thought of as the no.1 UK heavyweight), especially in regards to timing his takedowns and side-stepping Stav's jab. I'm expecting a similar type of style to the fight here.

Don't get me wrong I'm not thinking this is a a foregone conclusion (and Phil has been known to get overconfident at times), Broughton is a very tough fighter and is the type of guy who can knock you out at anytime. He didn't look good against Browne but you could attribute that to the altitude, he will be focused and determined to prove himself.

If Phil was still fighting Thompson I'd have said it'd be a first round sub win for De Fries, now Broughton will be a much tougher fighter to crack and it could take awhile to get him on the ground (though his boxing is solid enough not to be a worry) but when, not if, he gets him down it shouldn't take long for him to get the submission on. He absolutely loves the rear-naked choke, so expect to see him take the back at any opportunity. De Fries by RNC late 2nd round/mid 3rd round.

I never knew that about Dux. But that's brilliant. Makes me sad about Bloodsport now. :(

Also, has anyone been to Tescos in Birmingham to meet Rashad? That's right as part of the promo tour for the woefully publicised UFC 138 Rashad is signing DVDs in aisle 7 at Tescos.
