Yeah, I know tl;dr.

I had completely forgotten about this until something reminded me earlier today. It could be argued that without an article that appeared in Playboy in 1989 the whole history of MMA would be very, very different. You could argue that without that Playboy article that there would be no UFC.

Two brief extracts from Clyde Gentry's No Holds Barred: Ultimate Fighting and the Martial Arts Revolution (http://www.amazon.com/No-Holds-Barred-Ulti...n/dp/190385430X) explain how....

Extracted from pages 36-37 of paperback edition.

...Two more years passed before Rorion Gracie got the break that he was looking for. Well-respected freelance writer Pat Jordan was working on a story about an arm wrestler when his subject recommended Gracie, having worked out with him in his garage dojo. Jordan spent three days with the jiu-jitsu master. In September 1989, his lengthy article on an

As far as the first fight goes, Chael won 4 rounds but then tapped convincingly. He might have been doing well, but he was beaten (despite alledged juicing and an injured Silva.) Have you ever seen anyone who lost convincingly get a rematch so quickly even after a 12 month hiatus? (outside Shogun/Machida which was a different thing all together).

I wouldn't say he lost convincingly. He dominated for four and a half rounds then got caught by a triangle. He did better against Silva than any other fighter in the UFC has came close to.

An unconvincing win to me is a split decision. Chael tapped 4 rounds up or not.

Anthony Johnson is moving up to middleweight to face Vitor Belfort. Should be a war!!

Full story is here

wow, did not see that coming. I'd be interested to hear if this a permanent move for Johnson or whether not it's a move simply because it's too good an oppurtunity to pass up.

Johnson looked so good last time out that i was pretty sure he was gonna go on a tear at 170, obviously i think the move to 185 was going to happen eventually, but i didn't expect it now.

Wonder what David's magic rankings system would make of this?

It's a strange one isn't it, he's coming off 2 wins and a very impressive KO of Brenneman.

The cut must be killing him.

In other news there's a bit of talk going on between Koscheck and Malki Kawa regarding Condit. We might be looking at Kos/Condit while GSP/Diaz unfolds. That's a risky one for Condit IMO. WTF happens if he loses?

Sakuraba is tied to some video game deal over in Japan and despite the obvious that Dana wouldn't want Fedor in the game, he is still contracted to EA MMA (I believe it was a 3 game deal he was signed to, as was Couture) - most of the other fighters were signed to one game deals (like Hendo ect.).

Yeah I heard that about Sakuraba.

Couture and Fedor being signed to 3 game deals is pointless, as I doubt there will be a EA MMA sequal after its dismal sales.

i thought they would have gone for Condit/Ellenberger. There's a score to be settled there and both guys are on a tear, it makes sense.

Diego Sanchez is fighting Ellenberger. I missed that.

Not anymore, jimufctna brought to my attention that Sanchez is out until next year :(

I like Condit/Ellenberger 2 aswell. I just posted in the UFC 141 thread about this. That fight makes more sense in the title picture than the rumoured Condit/Koscheck fight because if Kos won he could fuck up the title picture.

That Pride roster is fucking awesome.

Bob bastard Sapp

Would have been nice to have Saku, Fedor, Barnett, Overeem etc but it's more than I expected. Thought we'd just get Pride versions of the UFC fighters and maybe a couple of legends.

There's an outside chance they could give us Overeem and Barnett as part of the DLC after release aswell.
