Is it really all that different though? As far as the musician example, I guess it would be like saying that we can separate the art from the artist when it comes to people like Keith Moon and Vince Neil, for example, who both killed people, but can't do so with Benoit because the art was what eventually caused the tragedy.

We could ask if Keith Moon and Vince Neil would have become drug-addled booze merchants who eventually were responsible for the death of another person if they hadn't been involved in the music industry? Perhaps, but it could be argued that the music industry and the trappings and lifestyle afforded by it at least partly led to their lifestyle choices and the decision they made to drive while drunk.

I know there was books that came out after the fact that claimed that Benoit was a prick and secretly had a dark personality all along, but it's worth remembering that before all that happened he was generally liked by most people and considered to be a relatively quiet, unassuming family man.

Sure, he was a bit of a weirdo when it came to certain things, was intense as fuck, and there was people who didn't like him, but I don't remember anyone really saying too much about him in a derogatory fashion when he was alive.

It all has a bit of a "now you mention it, he was a bit off..." vibe to it, which we see when the pleasant, friendly guy next door turns out to be a mental axe murderer who buried people in his back garden.

I suspect that is more a reflection of the industry at the time and what shit they enabled and accepted tbh. How many wrestlers over the years have been give excuses for abusing partners, abusing drugs etc. If it is a toxic environment its widely seen as normal. You see it in police, healthcare etc

  2. Feels like yesterday... 15 years!

Should he be in the HOF? No chance. Its tasteless and disrespectful to the people he killed.

Was he a prick? One book was enlightening re how sadistic he could be.

Was he a sufferer of CTE? Yes. Does that give him a free pass? No. And at the same time if your brain is that smashed its hardly a surprise. I suspect roid use really exacerbated this aggressive tendencies.

Was his style ridiculous? Yes. He was reckless and he idolised Dynamite Kid. Cos that ends well.

Can I separate the wrestler from the person? Yes. It's nuanced. Same as other people that do shitty things, I can appreciate art whilst condemning the artist. I don't believe his horrific actions are in any way relevant to his in ring work.

That said, I don't generally watch his stuff as I found him a bit dry for me. I can see he was a solid wrestler  but I was never a huge fan.

  3. As I get older, I cry at more and more every year! Kids winning on BGT (wife makes me watch it!) I'm in bits. Anything to do w young people dying of cancer. I can't stop crying for hours. Heartwarming adverts? FFS!

Weirdly, I hear horrific shit every day in my work and nothing. I guess it has to come out somehow.

Do people think its an age thing? My dad is late 50s and he cries reading our daughter a kids book!

Fuck's sake. He's my MP as well. After years of detesting him for being a slavish Blairite minion, I thought he might have finally turned a corner when he realised that things were not all as hunky-dory as he might have believed when all the racists loudly came out of the woodwork, as he was starting to sound a bit more principled. This is a massive fucking step back.

I don't believe people want principled people in politics. They want to be told what they want to hear. Its why we have shit bags in power; people claim they want honesty but in fact they agreement w their world view.

Unfortunately Starmer et al will only ever win by playing to the rhetoric that is most prevalent. This country isn't remotely leftist and I don't believe many like a more socialist agenda (unless it benefits them directly). It is, and always will be, won in the centre ground, and Starmer would do well to walk the tightrope between the Tory and Corbyn type agendas.

I don't mind Starmer though I have no idea what he stands for. Saying that, I'd vote for a rotten sea cucumber over the Tories any day of the week. I detest and loathe those self serving pricks

    What are you on about?

The term autistic. Many people w autism are now reclaiming the word  rather than it being a negative.

For a number of years autistic wasn't used as much because of the negative connotations. However, "with autism" suggests there is something wrong w them, autistic is a set of characteristics (as far as I can tell) and not a negative term. Neurodiverse is still used alot but i find it a bit clunky and lumps everyone together who have adhd, autism and other neurodiverse diagnosis.

I'm surprised the right are using it as a slur, given how reclaiming the term is becoming more mainstream. and rightfully  it shouldnt be a derogatiry phrase.

Ps. Apologies, my incoherent posts are often when I am walking  doing other things etc. Which is apparently quite common!

  6. In the NHS it is so demoralising at the moment.. Unison et al have no back bone and the RCN is on its own, as the only player willing to hold their nerve.

Sadly I think 5% is all we will be getting. If teachers etc get a better deal there will be fury. Same if my medical colleagues get a better deal (haven't seen it yet) there will be alot of resentment.

The fact is we work way beyond what we get paid for and if we all stuck to our paid hours the NHS would crumple. At the same time we aren't a charity, as highly specialised and skills professional people we need proper recompense for the psychological and physical bashing we take every day.

I've spent all those claps from 2020 as have my colleagues.

I've also noticed a nasty reintroduction of the phrase Autistic as an insult by right wing posters on certain newspaper or football sites.

It's weird because many people w autism are now wanting to use the word autistic.

What is the matter w these bullying fucktards? (EDIT: Not autistic people!)

Who's in the hood behind DiBiase?

Looks like Knobs but I may be mistaken. Or a weighty Santino Marella

In fact scrub that.it may just be a random!

  9. W the amount of resources that AEW have I suspect they will have more than enough expertise to bring on board if needed. Wrestling isn't unique and they will just have to up scale. The main issue is size. WWE aren't the only players that can do this stuff. They'll be fine.

  10. Despite the amount of fucking around from Gauntley et al, I have some fond memories from those shows.

I know it's the thing to do, to bash the company, and Gauntley sure has alot to answer for. I suspect some folk on here got fucked about by him and he certainly crapped on British wrestling's rep with his BS.

That said, I'd never have seen half of those talents without those shows (Sabu, Styles, Abyss, Jarrett, Joe etc). Sure they were chaotic, the wrestling was often patchy and the run times were nonsensical but I enjoyed most of them. Though, I nearly died on the drive back to London at 1am on multiple occasions.

I loved the Burridge vs McGuinness 2/3 falls match at one of them. There was also a brilliant Styles v Pac match IIRC that was great (I may have rose tinted glasses, its been years).

It's a shame because the concept was great, but the execution was appalling at times.

A quick shout out to Les who ran RQW I think it was. Getting Muta over after that fiasco w 1PW was a great call and shows he was a decent bloke (I heard he passed away, bless him)

  11. I hate the term "woke".

Firstly it means NOTHING at all. It used to have some meaning (awareness of injustice and inequality etc) but as with most things it has been hijacked by the right and turned into some sort of insult. The problem is that the right are wonderful at doing this shit, much better than the left that always seems to be one step behind when it comes to spinning a narrative (I say this as a liberal).

When I hear anyone saying it I replace "woke" with "Hi, I'm a raging racist/misogynist/homophobe et al". It is annoying because questioning a narrative isn't a problem in itself, but the word just negates any argument a person may have. It is in the same canon as "Brexit means Brexit", "politic correctness gone mad!", "I'm not racist but..." and "take back control".

A cursory look at GB "News" makes my heart sink and I despair at where we are nowadays. "Woke Watch" and other BS pieces.

We need a nuance conversation where people learn that they haven't got the monopoly on the truth, that there is nuance and at the same time that maybe people need to stop taking everything so damn personally. This good/bad, right/wrong nonsense is eroding conversation and its so harmful.

I'm sure I'll get rightly mocked for this, but isn't Saraya v Jamie Hayter the biggest main event they could do right now from their current roster?  The former Paige has had a bloody movie made about her, she's known over here and can get onto mainstream telly, and the Brit v Brit and the progressive women's wrestling angle will help play too.

The other thing to recall is that TNA was pretty big over here back in the day, so guys like Jarrett, Samoa Joe etc all have decent name value.  Not Wembley Stadium big, but it's a way to draw in other possibly lapsed UK fans.

I'm a very very casual fan and that main event sounds dire and wouldn't make me buy a ticket. Have either had any classic matches? I'd expect a big finale for a show this big. As a mid card match fine, though maybe its cos I don't gravitate toward women's wrestling.

  13. If they could get Okada over as a one off rental I'd die for Okada v Omega 4. Not a huge Punk fan though he v Omega wouldn't be a bad shout.

I'll end up going w the wife.in the nosebleeds

  14.

What do people think about accused who are blacklisted from thr business  in terms of is there ever a point where they can be considered punished and allowed back? Is this a clear case of once accused you shouldn't ever be back in the business?

I'm really torn on the issue, though my natural pull says they should find another profession.

So basically are these dickheads ever rehab-able?

Yet you're calling it ASD. Make your mind up.

ASD and ASC are one and the same. I've been around long enough to be long in the tooth w terms. I specialise in mental illness not autism, hence my point.

I'm unsure what your issue is.

Autism isn't a disorder so I say you're an expert in talking out of your crack.

I said mental disorders. Which can mimic ASD. I didn't say ASD is a disorder. Try again.

Can I ask what your problem is? You seem to have a chip on your shoulder. I suspect this is a you problem rather than a me one. If you have an issue I'd ask you to have the balls to message me directly. Rather than these snide digs. I also suspect you won't :) keep well.

My point being that autism is actually rather difficult to pin down, especially when there are multiple different disorders that look similar. Just an observation.

And as for that other poster, I've been an expert in psychiatry for 2 decades, so I'd politely ask him to sit down.

  19. Just a quick mention...

Whilst autism has increased over the years due to awareness, there are other issues that look like autism and these can make diagnosis very tricky. E.g. trauma history, personality disorder etc.
