  1. By 'a couple of jokes', do you mean "Smothers takes the microphone "How are you Doncaster Donkeys" he continues talking about how 1PW is 2 years old before calling Simmonz and Tighe fagots. Hamrick takes the microphone "You two are ass down, face up, pillow facing homosexual fags". Smothers then calls for a Dance -Off! Simmonz and Tighe dance a little too close to each other, causing the fans to chant 'Fagots'?"Or was it something non-homophobic? If this is down to a primarily inaccurate show report, and it was, in fact, just one comment from Smothers post-match, and the crowd went with it, then I'll happily ask for the thread to be renamed 'Tracy Smothers Homophobia'. If it was Smothers and Hamrick, with Tighe and Simmons playing up to it, then I'd say that was a 1PW segment.

I sure as hell don't remember 'ass down face up' at all. I think I'd have noticed something like that.
But Hamrick was joining in the 'faggot' jokes? And Tighe and Simmons were playing up to them?

He had to apologise twice in one night for language? Ouch. That's not going to come across as professional, is it?

Couldn't be more obvious that you're trying to use this incident to paint 1PW in a bad light, really. And to be fair, one was James Wallace; he's excessively rude at the politest of times.
Whereas I think it couldn't be more obvious that this incident paints 1PW in a bad light all by itself.
  2. How does me asking you for clarification imply ANYTHING to you? I didn't contradict you. I said I was under the impression that Stevie apologised for a separate incident. Then asked what specific apology he made about the 'match'.What does that imply?I called it 1PW homophobia because it took place at a 1PW event. For ten minutes. This isn't like that 1PW kid that jumped off an apron and hurt himself that was nothing to do with 1PW, because it took place in less than a minute. This was the beginning, the middle and the end of the entire match.

Uh, no it wasn't. In fact Simmonz and Tighe began the whole thing by challenging Southern Comfort to a 'classic' 1PW dance off, but Simmonz kept dancing towards Tighe and grinding against him. Smothers made a couple jokes, then the match got on. It wasn't 'til the end of the match that the 'Faggots' chant began.

If it had happened at an IPW show, I'd have called it IPW homophobia. If it had happened at an XWA show, I'd call it XWA homophobia. And I'd also see it as THEIR responsibility, because if they don't know what's going to happen in their matches, then they're not responsible bookers. This wasn't one comment. This was the ENTIRE segment. So, what did Stevie say in his apology about that segment?

All Stevie did was apologise for the language used in the previous segment.
He had to apologise twice in one night for language? Ouch. That's not going to come across as professional, is it?
  3. I was under the impression that Stevie Aaron apologised for James Wallace's language. What did he say to apologise for the ten minute homophobic segment masquerading as a match?

See, that just further implies to me that this (for you) isn't an issue about Tracy Smothers or Chris Hamrick and their comments - you're making out that it's about 1PW, which is why your thread's subtitle is "1PW homophobia"; am I right?
How does me asking you for clarification imply ANYTHING to you? I didn't contradict you. I said I was under the impression that Stevie apologised for a separate incident. Also, I'd suggest that 1PW shouldn't book SoCo again, should release a public statement apologising for any offense called, taking measures to make sure it won't happen again, and excising the segment from the DVD release so they don't seem to be trying to profit from it.

Well here's as much as I can tell you; Smothers and Hamrick aren't booked for any further 1PW shows (and have no outstanding storylines at any rate) and it's very unlikely that the end of the match will be on the DVD anyway, since they tend to cut off before there's any opportunity for licensed music to be used in keeping with 1PW's retail DVD distribution deal. So that's nothing to worry about.
Did I misread the write up of the match, or was it totally inaccurate? Smothers and Hamrick made continued comments at the beginning of the match too, and throughout. Not JUST at the end. And meanwhile, Simmons and Tighe played up to it throughout the match. If that's inaccurate, what really happened? And other than a handful of people, how many people are booked for future 1PW shows? They have a full card for the next show already?

Is it really worth never going to another show of theirs despite the promotion putting on good shows and entertainment just because one of the wrestlers made a horrific error of judgement to say that stuff?Btw, I don't think it's '1PW homophobia'. The company isn't homophobic - Smothers is. To label it anything else is crap.

It wasn't one person. It was Smothers, Hamrick, Tighe and Simmons. Two of them making the comments repeatedly, the other two playing up to it repeatedly. In a match booked by 1PW. Really, you're saying 1PW didn't know what was going to happen in the match?
  4. Erm, well yeah . . . . if you're running a show where families and children will be attending I'd think it a wise move to say to the boys "right guys, watch the language" etc. Does this sound stupid to you Dingbat?

It does when 1PW have always maintained that 'anything can happen', and that parents who bring their children to the shows are responsible for what they hear. Considering this is a company that last year ran a 'Barbed Wire Hell' match and issued a second separate warning about that, I really don't think 1PW is aimed specifically at kids.Darque Edge - you weren't at the show, were you? Stevie Aaron was forced to apologise for the language used. What else would you suggest 1PW did?

I'd like to know what any faggots thought of all this?

Well, my best mate is bisexual; he was front-row and he was offended, so he spoke out against what Smothers said on the forum. He didn't slate 1PW.
I was under the impression that Stevie Aaron apologised for James Wallace's language. 5. For the inevitable 'but it's not the companies fault' response, it is. They booked SoCo and the British Lions, they advertised them, and I'm assuming at some point, they had some say as to what went on in their show. The ultimate responsibility comes down to the company. And yeah, I'll turn around and say that I won't pay for another ticket with 1PW. OMG OVERREACTION!! The simple reason is I've gone there with groups before - groups of people I pushed the show on. I really can't begin to say just how embarassed and mortified I would have been to have pushed people to come to a show like this, and had this happen. And seriously, screw the 'It's wrestling! Since when was wrestling PC?'. I have no problem with 'adult'. I have a problem with 'bigoted'. This is Bernard Manning territory, not a night out at Jongleurs.

  6. From the 1PW second anniversary show results:

Losing Team Must Wear a DressIron Lions (James Tighe & Andy Boy Simmonz) vs. Southern Comfort (Tracy Smothers & Chris Hamrick)Iron Lions take the microphone "Keep the noise down, we left you laying Hamrick" "Who are ya" chants from the 1PW fans. "Your old, washed up, former stars" Hamrick fains sleeping in the corner "We're going to send you packing back to the USA" "Shut the f*** up" the fans reply. Smothers takes the microphone "How are you Doncaster Donkeys" he continues talking about how 1PW is 2 years old before calling Simmonz and Tighe fagots. Hamrick takes the microphone "You two are ass down, face up, pillow facing homosexual fags". Smothers then calls for a Dance -Off! Simmonz and Tighe dance a little too close to each other, causing the fans to chant "Fagots". Smothers dancing causes everyone to cheer but once again Hamrick won't dance! The Iron Lions leave the ring, Smothers motions for a 6-1-9 but stops, Hamrick comes off the top rope with a high cross body. Smothers attempts to follow but is thrown into the guardrail, Hamrick is thrown back into the ring and quickly double teamed. The Iron Lions successfully cut the ring in half, as they continue the beat down on Hamrick. With numerous two on one beat-downs as the referee is distracted, Hamrick finally makes the tag to Smothers, whilst Tighe tags in Simmonz. Tighe hits an underhook slam on Hamrick for a two count as the match breaks down. Smothers hits Tighe with a flatliner, Simmonz hits Smothers with a missile dropkick. Tighe is down so Hamrick double jumps for a moonsault (but slips and lands awkwardly!). At this point the match stops, the fans clap for Hamrick, then out of nowhere Hamrick hits a super kick and Smothers hits a Spear 1, 2 and 3. "Put your dresses on" chant from the crowd, Iron Lions attempt to leave so Hamrick and Smothers lock them in sleeper holds and put the dresses on. Hamrick calls Iron Lions "A couple of queers, don't act like it's the first time you have worn a dress" "Fagot" chant from the fans.Match Time: 9 minutesWinners: Southern Comfort

Now, the last time I remember something being done so homophobic in wrestling (and by homophobic, I mean directly homophobic, rather than the Billy and Chuck fiasco) was Balls Mahoney referring to a match as a 'homosexual dance party', and I remember Powerslam condemning it somewhat at the time as well.I realise also that this may seem obvious to some people, but it's TWO THOUSAND AND FUCKING SEVEN, and we have two of the brightest rising stars in British Wrestling (depending on who you ask, and perhaps a couple of years generous to James Tighe), along with two relatively well respected veterans, getting an audience - including kids - to chant 'Faggot'.And a good time was had by all.Seriously, is this acceptable now, and nobody mentioned it to me? Especially when British Wrestling should be after every fan it can get, and not alienating anyone.I've been to see 1PW in the past, and I just think how embarassed I would be if I went with my friends or family to see a show in which this happened, and have to try and defend that 'I'm a fan of this'. For starters, 1PW can forget ever getting any money of mine again, and (if I have anything to do with it) that of any of my friends. At what stage do we turn around and go 'err...actually, that's going too far.'? Do we have to get to actual, rather than implied racism (I'm thinking the typical 'evil foreigner' angle in WWE)? How about a rape angle? At which point will we still have fans turning around and saying 'this was fun!'?
  7. This was a good question that hasn't been answered so I've posted it again:

    2. How did Undertaker form the Ministry of Darkness? Did he just turn up one day and recruit all the blokes that were in it? Was there any dodgy innitiation? I can remember Viscrea being "brainwashed" or something at Rumble 1999, but nothing about the other members.

The Acolytes had been around for a little while, but we didn't know who they were worshipping. Following that, he 'sacrificed' Mideon.I *think* the MOD was formed more or less when 'taker declared his hatred for Vince, and burned Steph's teddy.(wow - I remember that being cool as well, but talking about him sacrificing Mideon, and burning a teddy sounds really crap when you say it out loud. Still cool as hell though).
  8. Can anyone enlighten me on the circumstances surrounding the departure of 911 from ECW in early 1996?

He got choked out by Taz as one of the first "big" victims of the Path of Rage. Unfortunately, 911 didn't quite understand the rules of the game, and popped right back up. Heyman was FURIOUS and fired him on the spot.I know he came back briefly (to get properly choked out) and was briefly in WCW as well, but I have no idea where he is now. More than likely he's running or bouncing at a bar somewhere in Jersey.
Wrestling under the name of Tombstone. Think he appeared on a couple of episodes of Saturday Night and that was him done.
Didn't he also appear on the Philadelphia Nitro the night after ECW Barely Legal?
He was also known as Big Al in WCW.Just found the Philadelphia Nitro results mentioned above -

April 14, 1997: Chris Benoit pinned The Barbarian...United States Champion, Dean Malenko, defeated Hector Guerrero...Rey Misterio Jr. pinned Juventud Guerrera...World Television Champion, Ultimo Dragon, pinned Lane Carleson...World Cruiserweight Champion, Syxx, defeated Prince Iaukea...Public Enemy defeated High Voltage in a street fight...The Giant pinned Big Al...Diamond Dallas Page pinned Konnan...Jeff Jarrett and Steve McMichael defeated Harlem Heat by Disqualification...Lex Luger defeated Kevin Nash by Disqualification.

Not the same Big Al that Tank Abbott threatened with a knife? Or do I have my names wrong?
  9. Just a quickie. How long has Hulk Hogan played the political game? I've obviously heard all about his WCW antics, and his refusal to do jobs since his 2002 comeback, but does anyone know of any politicking in his original WWF run? Was he worse during this time? Or did he play by the book? Anybody heard any stories?

He made a point of being the person to give Ultimate Warrior the title belt, and made DAMN sure the spotlight was on him, rather than on Warrior. He refused to drop the title to Bret Hart in 1993.They're the main two from earlier that I can remember.
  10. He's following a pattern. I did my second year dissertation on famous serial killings. If you know the pattern, you know where he's hitting next. The trouble is, to be absolutely certain he is following the pattern I think he is, I'd need to see the evidence, autopsy photos, etc.An education is a wonderful thing. Espescially when you have it and others who don't think they know more than you.

I'm guessing your grasp of criminology is probably as strong as your selling ability. You may be chubby but you ain't Cracker.
I'm a couple of mods away from degrees in Forensic Pathology and Crime Scene Science with Criminology. And I'm predicted firsts. I'd say my grasp of criminology makes Cracker just look like the shitty TV show it is.
You'd better hope none of those mods left involve having to do diagrams of crime scenes, diagrams of witnesses/location of objects around the body.Because if memory serves, you had a lot of problems drawing.
  11. Is this not likely to be directly involved with that idea of Mo's? The kind of NWA-like british company? The one that was set up publicly, on this very forum, which 1PW management embarass themselves on regularly enough to suggest that they read it?Doncaster appears to have been chosen as neutral territory between the promoters, but with a ready-made wrestling fan base. And I didn't see anyone slagging off 1PW in the email - did I skip a sentence?

  12. For the Bret Hart-Yokozuna main event of Wrestlemania 9, were there any angles/face offs/clashes between the 2 wrestlers prior to the PPV?All I remember from the build up for this match is Bret Hart conducting an interview saying he knows he is the underdog but he is going to give it his best shot etc etc.In the main I recall most of that Wrestlemania build up to be the return of Hogan for the Hogan/Beefcake vs Money Inc matchBut surely there must have been some build up for the main event, and if not, that must be some kind of record.

I remember a contract signing, where Yoko overturned the table, than Banzai Splashed Bret.
  13. The low rider thing.I actually thought Big show appearing to spitting on the low rider was worse than randy driving over taker (which everyone freaked out more about)In the storyline, you could argue Randy was only using the car to get rid of the Taker. Thats it. If JBL limo had been there he would have used that. But big show spitting on the car was so personal. And just weird considering show was in tears about eddie's passing a few weeks earlier. Also, the terrorist angle was so awful and removed all traces of doubt that WWE creative had any common sense left at all..

How personal was it? How deliberate was it?Show's mentioned in the past that one of the side effects of his size is the fact that he (to try and put it delicately) has saliva issues. It was the reason he gave for being 'misheard' as referring to Kaientai as 'gooks', when he claimed he said 'goons'.
  14. Those people are right.Federation is a regular noun (a specific thing) but Entertainment is an abstract noun (a concept).Regular nouns are preceded by a definitive article ('the' or 'a' depending on the context) while abstract nouns don't have an article.

This is correct.I've always wondered if some people get confused because it is correct to say 'The WWE champion, or The WCW Champion, or The TNA Champion'?I also find it strange that nobody ever says 'The Ring of Honor', despite the fact that it's perfectly sound, grammatically speaking.
  15. Who is Kriss Sprules?

It's the real name of one of the Heart-Throbs. Romero, I think.
Yes right. Kriss Sprules vs Cage Tyler is "the match" mentioned from OPWO's first show.
I know - I was just amused by the idea of somebody watching velocity, thinking to themselves 'but....he's not THAT bad...'

The year Shawn Michaels is voted Worst Wrestler is the year that all other wrestlers suddenly decide to retire, leaving him the only eligible candidate. By default, he'll also win Best Big Man In Wrestling.

    And best diva.
  16. Trivia!Q: Kurt Angle's three I's are Intensity, Intergity and Intelligence. However, during an promo, he once said that there was a 4th I. What was the 4th I, and when was this promo?

He probably used another one as well, but....4th I was Intercontinental Championship, and he said it during his feud with Chris Jericho (Jericho had said it first, in that he had an I of his own).
  17. That'd be the breastfeeding-the-pig side of her (see BOYS FOR PELE sleeve)!

Oh aye - that was just one of those double-take 'is she doing what I think she's doing?' moments. She's still wonderful though!
I loved the cover quote to an old magazine cover (It might have been 'Q') that she had.'Why can't I be an empowered goddess woman, AND a hot piece of ass?'
  18. Following on from the Scott Steiner topic..I was just wondering when was the last time, and when, was Steiner last able to physically execute a "frankensteiner"?Also, did he win any belts in the WWE?Cheers brahs.

I seem to remember he pulled one out during his last run in WCW, against Buff Bagwell. It stuck in my memory, because the idea was that he had chosen not to do it for a while, rather than that he couldn't do it.
