Probably cop a lot of hate for this, but I hated Punk vs Allin stealing whole sequences beat by beat from Bret vs Kid for this exact reason. I want to appreciate a wrestling match for its own value, not to turn around to another humanoid and squalk “I see what they did there! Do you??”

Completely agree. Think Danielson and Punk mimicked a recent UFC fight at the time during one of their WWE matches around a decade ago. Seems self-indulgent to do that kind of thing.

I think it could have done with a bit more on Sunny post candido's death. It made it look like the next thing that happened after he died was sunny going to prison when it was like 15 years of her continued decline between.

Watching the most emotionless man ever Lance Storm crying was tough.

The difficulty was the episode was only 45 minutes long. I thought they covered most of the important parts of their story well within a limited time slot. I suppose the argument could be made that 45 minutes isn’t enough for certain topics.

I remember me and Egg saying how a bands album may be your favourite not because of the quality of music but because it takes you back to a point in your life that was joyous. It may have been the first album you heard by a band that grew to be a huge part of your life so it holds a special place in your heart.

Pretty much this. The things you liked during your first ten years of fandom often end up being your favourite. Same applies with pro wrestling. Most of my favourite matches are from the nineties.

  4. For me, St Anger seemed to be a result of Nu Metal being so big at the time and Metallica trying to keep up with the times. They probably saw how grunge killed off the LA Rock scene a decade before (albeit temporarily) and experimented with St Anger to try and “stay relevant”. I didn’t hate the album but it’s definitely not my favourite of theirs.

Don’t come at me for this but surely the Rolling Stones are up there in terms of popularity and longevity.

Never quite got the Rolling Stones but like you say, their longevity is impressive. Gimme Shelter and Paint it Black are decent tunes though IMO.

Robert Smith if we're going for individuals. He's the one guy I'd be a bit devastated if any proper dirt came out about. Been married to his childhood sweetheart for like a hundred years, recently took on Ticketmaster head on, tweets everything in caps, enormous back catalogue that spans from funeral dirges to Friday I'm In Love, plays for three hours and generally just seems like a very cool gentleman, unlike some of the other Cool Dude figures who are endlessly vaunted in the press.

    I fucking love him.

    Hates the Royal Family too.

I said that to my Mrs. The whole thing had goodbye vibes for him

Definitely. “We ain’t going nowhere” isn’t the same as “I ain’t going nowhere”. Triple H looked like he was taking it all in more so than usual and seemed to be thanking a lot of people.

  8. Definitely recall in early nineties when two lads from our form at secondary school did a Dino Bravo style aeroplane spin spot. The person in the aeroplane spin’s feet knocked over one of those (now archaic) projectors and it broke. The teacher found out and went spare.

We also used to have Royal Rumbles in a mobile classroom during lunch breaks. A psycho rugby player who was bigger and stronger than everyone else had plenty of fun basically kicking the crap out of people and throwing them out of the fire exit to eliminate them.

  9. From what I recall during early 2001, WCW as a product wasn’t actually that bad. The TV shows actually seemed more watchable and flowed much better than the previous couple of years and they were sorting themselves out. I know a lot of people don’t hold him in high regard these days but wasn’t John Laurinaitis basically the head booker during this time? I think the plan was to bring Rob Van Dam to WCW. Not sure if they’d have built the company around him but RVD’s presence on the roster would’ve benefitted WCW for sure. However, as has already been said, the losses had already been made and the damage was done. There was no way that AOL Time Warner wanted WCW around. Ted Turner no longer had the influence he once had in terms of the TV stations either so WCW was beyond being saved.

  10. HBK being one of the best at bumping and selling doesn’t save the slingshot from being a hokey move for me. Suppose the argument for the move would be you have suspend your disbelief when watching wrestling at times. Let’s face it, running the ropes defies logic too.

The slingshot - looks shit. Never seen a good one.

Looks shit and fake AF too. Not the only wrestling move that wouldn’t work in a real fight of course but has to be up there as one of the least believable moves in professional wrestling for me.

Off Topic but I was in crewe the other week and there was a bar in the market (Crewe Dog) with a record stall next door run by the same people which was a lovely surprise as I'd only stopped in for the beers on my pub loop but ended up with a couple of records.

Crewe Dog was opened after the success of the Salty Dog over in Northwich. A decent little bar that sells good beers and has regular live music. There’s also one in nearby Winsford called the Delamere Street Dog.

  13. First Gig - Fairport Convention, Manchester, 1989. I was a kid and my dad thought I’d like it. He was wrong.

Best Gig - Guns n’ Roses, London Arena, 2002. Axl was late as was commonplace at the time but the gig was bloody superb. Maximum effort from the whole band. No Slash but Buckethead was equally brilliant on lead guitar.

Worst Gig - Smashing Pumpkins, Manchester Apollo, 2011. Sound was poor and was probably the most self indulgent gig I’ve seen. Was Billy Corgan and what I think was a whole different line up at the time. Hardly played any famous songs. Just new stuff. People were complaining about the lack of famous songs. Very disappointed.
