We have a 19-year-old in our office who one day described the stuff I had been listening to on Spotify as “dad bands”.

That day I had been listening to bands from 1997/8 sort of periods. For me, the classic ‘dad band’ is Status Quo, so it really made me think.

I suppose that now makes the likes of Status Quo "Grandad Bands".

  2. I didn’t support the war in Iraq. And the people in power now would’ve done the same thing as Blair by the way. Tories have a habit of going to war at the drop of a hat.

I’m looking at things from our perspective and things that affect our country. And a right wing populist Government who’ve aided the increase of racism and economic uncertainty can go to Hell. Fuck Bojo the Clown and fuck the Conservative Party. I just wish Labour would sort themselves out.

  3. Blair had a lot of faults. War mongering being the main one. I’d take his Government over the shit show we have now though.

Blair is also a very intelligent man and realises what a disaster Brexit is likely to be and isn’t afraid to say so. Hell, I even find myself agreeing with the likes of John Major, Michael Hesseltine and Ken Clarke over their stance on Brexit.

I hate to break it to you, but there's an election due there in October where the Canadian Tories are currently the narrow favourites to win.

At least the PM won’t be Boris Johnson though.

  5. Lead guitar is the most difficult role in a band. OK, Mick wasn’t the most technical of players when compared to uber shredders of the same era but he wrote some killer riffs and performed some decent solos. Underrated imo and gets some unfair stick.

  6. Piece of Your Action, Kickstart my Heart, Dr Feelgood, Livewire, Home Sweet Home and a few others were good Crue songs so I like some of their music. Mick Mars is also a decent guitarist so I can’t agree that they’re “shite”.

I do agree about them being bad people though. That Vince Neil story embarrassing women in the crowd doesn’t surprise me. Not to mention Tommy Lee was said to have beaten Pamela Anderson when they were married (think he did some jail time in ‘98 for it). I also read that the band just couldn’t be bothered with meet and greets that fans had paid a fortune to attend and hardly looked their fans in the eye (was a case of head down, sign an autograph and “next”). I’m sure I could go on.

  7. I still think Charlotte got put into the Mania main event because Vince wanted Ric Flair to see one of his kids in that spot before he passes away (and I hate to say it but it’s not looked good for Ric on one or two occasions during the last year or so as we all know).

But what actually was up with him ?

Nothing. This was a prime example of Bischoff being manipulated by his friends (in this case, Hogan). The match had over a year of build up and logic would’ve said that WCW’s biggest star at the time should’ve won the belt cleanly with no nonsense. Then of course Hogan pinned Sting with what was meant to have been a fast count (but wasn’t) and therefore ended up making Sting look bad and the finish was botched. A lot of people fail to mention this match when they talk about why WCW failed but for me, more Hogan BS like this was a huge factor and it hurt the company a lot.

The Sting not being in shape or tanned story sounds like a cop out to me. Conrad Thompson gave Bischoff a hard time over it on his podcast a few months ago (and it’s worth a listen).

  9. I'm going to start watching again to see how this goes but if Vince still has to green light everything that we see on TV and will keep changing things to what he thinks is best, is there any point? A lot of people are saying that Vince is the problem and that he should retire but if he's still overseeing and micromanaging what Heyman and Bischoff are doing, then the problem is still there.

Have to agree with what Meltzer and Alvarez said yesterday too. This is somewhat of a "f**k you" to Triple H bearing in mind you'd consider he'd be next in line to start running things on the main roster. Even then, he'd still be reporting to Vince. I honestly think that Vince must go. Vince was brilliant but he's not anymore and it's time for him to step aside.

  10. Just watched an episode of Rick and Morty (I’m late to the party) where they watched television from another dimension. There’s a part where they watch an episode of what’s obviously meant to be Garfield and they discuss how Lorenzo Music is still alive in that dimension and how Bill Murray ironically ended up being the voice of Garfield (kind of like how it was discussed on this forum recently).

Speaking of Adult Swim stuff, anyone seen this parody of M.A.S.K? It’s quite good. https://youtu.be/d9qdfNmLIjg

  11. The negatives: -

There's definitely room for improvement starting with the production. During the pre show, I think the commentators said they were going to show one thing and then cut to another (can't remember what exactly but it didn't look good). Someone also did a dive to the outside of the ring and the cameraman missed it. I'm not even sure they replayed it either from one of the other angles.

As great as it was to see Bret Hart on the show, someone could've at least briefed him on exactly when their next pay per view was taking place (or maybe he should've asked?).

There was a little bit of Indy style hokeyness, especially in the Battle Royal.

    The positives: -

Cody v Dustin was awesome. I can't recall either of them being in a better match during their careers (maybe Dustin at Canadian Stampede but he wasn't heavily involved in that one). The emotion, the blade job, the crowd reaction, the sheer hard work put into the match. Was simply brilliant. I had no problem with the Triple H dig during Cody's entrance either. I've never really been a Triple H fan (for several reasons) and I got a feeling that we saw the signs of an actual major promotion war again which is what pro wresting in North America has needed for a very long time.

Kenny v Jericho was good. The crowd were into it and for me, the match was exciting.

Jon Moxley's entrance was done well and the crowd went crazy.

Overall I really enjoyed the show. I think they need to raise their production standards but it's a good talent roster capable of putting on some great matches with entertaining feuds. I hope more big names join the promotion and WWE actually gets the competition it needs.

How many Australian drama series can you name?

The Flying Doctors, Wentworth Prison (PCBH reboot but not as good), The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Blue Heelers, Water Rats and Heartbreak High. OK, I can’t name that many but PCBH was still my favourite.
