  1. No issues with the finish if it was just sabotage of the ropes costing Finn and then building a feud with whoever was responsible. Could have ended the PPV with someone running off.  The stuff before that with the resurrection was Papa Shango levels of silly. Even kids don't buy that

  2. My partner had Covid last week. The timing was actually helpful because she'd been working away from home for a week. I was at my mum's when she got home and had started to get a really bad headache and sore ears. We thought it was her flight home because she usually has ear issues but she went for a PCR and it was positive. Once we spoke to Test and Protect we decided it was easier for me not to come home and I just stayed at my mum's for the week with my son. Felt that was better than coming home, going for negative PCR (double jabbed) them hoping not to catch it.

I work in regulation and deal with outbreaks most days as part of my job. It's really apparent to me that with Delta the vast majority of folk seem to get cold like symptoms first and then one to three of the main symptoms appear later. We were really grateful for the vaccine as she only had a mild cold and lost her sense of taste and smell for a week, with taste still being a bit odd now.

  3. Ah ok, I'd agree on that, although Celtic's model has been more along the lines of developing players to sell for profit and top up with Europa League money. I don't think the intention had been to focus on just the league.  What stands out for me is how the decision making at Rangers has made such a difference. Celtic appointing Lennon straight after the treble treble final was the moment the momentum was lost and surrendered to Rangers who were on the upswing wih Gerrard. Sticking with Gerrard under pressure has worked out well, although you wonder what would have happened had the pandemic not come along.

I still think there are some question marks over Rangers on not being able to win a domestic cup even after Celtic are eliminated. Champions League money would be huge but without it the squad is in danger of becoming a little too weighted towards players of around 27/28 years of age with limited sell on value.

I expect a closer season this season but to win the league Celtic would need a Martin O'Neill level of impact from Ange who unfortunately doesn't have a Larsson to build around.

  4. Celtic have made something in the region of 60m in player sales in three seasons, Europe is absolutely not the only way to make money in Scotland. The investment of those earnings has been nothing short of disgraceful though. I think many see Ange as being a Deila type or even a Pedro but he's not at all.

  5. Brilliant read @PunkStep. My son is 11 and just before and then during the pandemic his club basically fell apart. Started with the head of our age group being removed for using club funds for personal things, theft essentially but difficult to prove. Then the club as a whole had this huge row between various groups over (of all things) a van that had been bought to help deliver food for food banks.  This was all going on just as training was returning and I could see how it was all going to end up.

We had another team that had started up locally and was being run by guys I'd known for years from when I refereed in amateur and semi-pro football. While a lot of the kids were new to it and the standard was much lower than where my son had been, he went along and trained with them for a couple of weeks. He loved it so much that he wanted to move there and we did, just about six weeks before the old team folded entirely. Even though he was playing down a level it's actually made him a better player as he had a tendency to hide when playing with the other boys at his old team, who were very close to if not at academy standard. He's thriving with the responsibility and another couple of strong players have joined. The upshot being that they only lost one of 13 league games when they restarted. Non-competitive of course in Scotland but it's been absolutely magic watching them developing as a group. All down to the guy coaching and the guy who oversees the whole club. Potentially looking at a pathway to senior football via the WoSFL as there are plans to register a team in the next few years. All completely impossible without the work of the volunteers.

  6. Scotland were excellent tonight. Unbelievable that we started with O'Donnell and Hanley and yet it was Kane and Foden who were subbed off and totally ineffective. Could have won the game had we taken just one of a few good chances.

Hard to pick a man of the match but probably Tierney just ahead of Gilmour for me.

  7. I remember when I was wee that I'd always get at least two eggs that came with a mug, usually top end character themed eggs as well, something like Ninja Turtles. Nowadays I can only ever find eggs with a mug that are basic and boring like Mini eggs or Creme Eggs.

  8. Had my first dose of the AZ vaccine during the week and despite the centre being equidistant from two McDonald's with a drive-thru I resisted and just went back to work. Had really bad shivers through the night and felt rotten the next day but it didn't last more than 24 hours or so.

I can never remember a time when that was the case to be honest.

I think around the 2000-2008ish period pre-social media, there was less prevalence of the bigotry that usually surrounds the fixture. Both teams had some tremendous players during that period and each reached a European final. I definitely remember the focus being much more on who had the better players with each side having some world class players along with a number of high profile duds.

Oh aye, historically it’s always been about the football for Rangers and Celtic. Nothing by else, purely the colour of their shirts. Definitely no other antagonistic factors until Rangers went bust, no sir.

That's not what I said. However, I would say there is less of a religious undertone than there was back in 1980.  For a period in the early 2000s it was very much more focused on the football in my experience. The rise of social media has taken it back a step but still not to the levels of 1980 Glasgow.

  11. I long for the day fans on both sides of the Glasgow divide remember that this is a football rivalry.  Tax evasion, company law and, particularly, child sexual abuse as point scoring exercises are horrendous.

The two teams are now much more evenly matched and with a good manager in at Celtic it will be a tight race next season. Would be tremendous if we could get back to talking about which team plays best rather than the other nonsense.

  12. Our recruitment has been poor for a long time, covered up by the Dembele and Edouard type signings. I think we were all quite hopeful given the calibre of last summers signings on paper and being more than a modest spend. It hasn't worked out at all though, predominantly because Lennon had no idea how to devise a system or style of play that suited the squad.

Rangers have been very good in the league and have had that knack of winning games when not playing well that they didn't have previously.

  13. Part of my day job can involve looking at Companies House records to trace ownership. It's not an ideal system and very easy for links not be where they should be.

I expect WAW (UK) is set up as such for liability purposes. In the event they owe money it's on the company and the company's assets.

  14. Aside from doing the blast of heat from the oven thing, I also have an issue with plugs. In the living room one of our sockets has two extensions plugged in. One is for my work station and the other is the router and house phone/answer machine. Guess which one I keep turning off at night by mistake?

Clue: it's the one that takes down Netflix and Xbox Live in one fell swoop.

  15. I truly feel we won't see whether Speaking Out had had an impact until fans can return. Either it will have a huge impact on attendance or we'll find out that the vocal social media fanbase isn't big enough to make a difference.  The family-based shows will continue even with people involved who shouldn't be because the target audience is very unlikely to use Twitter to follow wrestling.

My mum loved Rick Rude when I used to watch Worldwide back in the early 90s. She came with me to the Real Event tour in 93 and thoroughly enjoyed his appearance.

That reminds me of being at a TNA show in Manchester around 2010 or 2011, the one where Hogan had his last match. The woman behind us was there with her son and his pal who were about 8 or 9. She clearly hated it and when we were chatting she told us she'd only agreed to bring them because they said Randy Orton would be there.

  17. Carol Smilie came to my old nursery to open the summer fair when she was on Wheel of Fortune. Although I was about 7 my mum still worked there so I was at the fair too.

Then about 18 months ago I went to the funeral of my old boss and Carol Smilie was the Humanist celebrant giving the eulogy.

  18. I think the idea of an industry regulator for wrestling is a complete non-starter. I work in regulation within an industry that was self-regulated until the early 2000s and can think of many reasons why regulation in the manner people are asking for won't happen. Above all else the financial implications would make it unviable to run any shows outside of arenas because there's no way any government funding is finding its way down to this. That leaves the cost with the industry itself and that's not happening off of 100 people in a social club. You're also talking about legislation, which again isn't likely because who cares enough about pro wrestling to make it change who they vote for?

I don't know enough about local authorities in England but in Scotland the best (as in achieving maximum possible standards and safeguards without regulation) method would be to ask councils to review their licensing criteria to include a specific category for pro wrestling. In the same way that taxis and pubs are subject to national legislation but are licensed at a local authority level.

While the talk remains with the idea of regulation, either by an independent body or self-regulation by wrestlers (bad idea), then nothing will really change beyond a few companies improving their practice. The fans who follow all this kind of thing on social media might not be willing to attend certain companies or watch certain individuals but that's not going to be enough of a detriment to stop all of these characters resurfacing.
