Yeah all good. I've decided it's going for a service as its been a while and I worry myself sick every time I drive it (what's that noise? What's that smell? Did that cyclist get up?) so will give me some peace of mind.

I'm exactly the same. I drive a newer car now but it hasn't really reduced the driving anxiety that I get.

  2. I'd agree the horn won't go off with no fuse. Even if it's an alarm issue rather than the horn relay it won't work as it's effectively unplugged. One thing to be mindful of though is that a horn that doesn't function at all (i.e. no sound, not even a bit of a halfhearted effort) will be an MOT failure if it's like that when tested.

First two tour cards claimed. Steve Lennon got his card back at the first time of asking. Story of the day though is Willie Borland. Got through the 1st stage on number of legs won, in last place on the ladder. Got beat by Lennon in the final today, probably only needs a couple of points to secure a card. Bonkers.

Martijn Dragt won in Germany. I don't know the name, but Redders might.

His 9-darter at the world championship was a brilliant moment, shame he lost his tour card after that. Would be good to see him back.

  4. A local cafe because they let a Tory councillor hold his surgeries there. My son now goes in there when he's out with his friends and even though it's technically my money he's spending I don't consider it breaking the boycott. He's slowly coming to realise what the Tories are but I think the quality of their toasties and milkshakes will be hard to get past for him.

Halfords garages but not their retail store. The garages are made up mostly of old National or smaller tyres and brakes chains. Their customer service is horrendous and they also regularly lie to customers and double down when caught out. The retails stores tend to have very helpful staff and because my current car has fiddly headlamps and brake lights I've used their fitting service, which was very quick.

A friend mentioned that someone had created an app for London that gave you information on which carriage to sit in so as to be closest to the exit when you got off, which you got by entering the station name.

    It's a start at least!

  6. In Helsinki they have screens on the platform that shows exactly where each carriage will stop as well as how many seats are available for the train coming in. Meanwhile in the UK, we're sharing tips on wrestling forums.

  7. We went to a La Vita near us for breakfast this morning. My son got the Scottish breakfast and I was blown away by how they presented the beans. As you can see they are resting in a basket made of fried bread! This is the kind of innovative thinking that could change the world like Windows 95 or the iPhone.

A very good Christmas Eve effort in our house. Instantly elevated due to the inclusion of a square sausage, tattie scone and haggis. Washed down with an Irn Bru Extra.

  9. I had someone at work insist that in published documents we should ignore our corporate policy of writing in gender neutral terms and use he/she. They were utterly convinced this was a woke/trans rights issue where in fact it's like that because it's viewed as a more professional way to write.

  10. There's a Popeye's just outside Glasgow now. We went the other week and although it was pretty good it wasn't worth the extra cost over a KFC. Would probably use it the odd time if it was closer but I wouldn't go out of my way to go to it again.

  11. I know TikTok is huge but I believe I may have the most banal algorithm. I exclusively watch football referees, tradesmen, mortgage specialists and insurance brokers.

I had a bit of a bad experience with an insurer years ago and am now an expert in how they work and how they categorise risk too. Other than people who work for insurers I probably know more than anyone I've ever met. As interests go, it probably doesn't get duller than that.

  12. I once had an interview with a large local authority where the feedback in my rejection email was that I hadn't answered using their preferred interview technique, which was like STAR but with two extra steps.  Of course it would have been nice of them to let me know they used this technique in advance so I could have prepped accordingly. My current employer is public sector and uses a combination of STAR and an assessment centre when hiring. They tell everyone in advance what the competencies are too and it really helps get the best out of people.

Let's hope that rumours of Corbyn standing for Mayor of London aren't true, that exactly the sort of divisive own goal that would gift the Tories endless news cycles.

Meanwhile, Labour have won the Rutherglen and Hamilton by-election from the SNP with a 20% swing.  This is huge as it suggests Labour could regain many of their traditional Scottish seats which would prove crucial at the next general election.  It also neatly counterpoints the narrative that Labour are only up in the polls because the Tories are so hated - they are also making ground against the SNP.

I don't think it's as huge as people think in terms of what it says about Labour/SNP. It's clear people don't want the Tories but a very similar seat up the road went 22% swing to Labour at a by-election a few years ago before the SNP won it back at the next GE.

Is changing a car tyre that simple? You have to fuck with wheel nuts and stuff don't you? Fuck that. I can change a bike tyre, piece of piss. That's my level.

The mechanics of it are very simple. You're usually dealing with four bolts. The challenge is having the confidence to jack the car up and that you'll do it correctly, which is what I struggle with.

  15. DIY for me too, can't do anything beyond very basic painting a wall.

I don't know if this is necessarily a simple thing but wrapping Christmas or birthday presents is like complex theoretical physics to me.

I think a severe lack of patience combined with poor hand-eye coordination is to blame for both of these issues tbh.

  16. The carbs in these deals are the equivalent of the square base on the hoopla stall at the carnival. They are purely there to stop you beating the fucker.

  17. Glasgow has just introduced our LEZ and so far it seems to have been a disaster. I'm absolutely in favour of it in principle but our current city council, which is SNP led, doesn't have the ability deliver it properly.

Not enough private taxis are compliant and the private bus companies have started to cut services, including night buses. This has combined with things like poorly laid out bus gates and reintroducing parking charges on Sundays to absolutely gut the city centre. I picked my partner up from Glasgow Central train station last weekend and the city was like a ghost town, footfall looked like it was Christmas or New Year's Day.

This makes it so easy for climate change deniers to say LEZs are bad, when in fact it's the infrastructure around them that is wrong.

  18. For Ange's system to work the holding midfielder/pivot is crucial. Celtic found it harder to start attacks from the back when Callum McGregor was injured. The other side of it is you need energetic wingers and a striker to press the opponent very high, similar to how Man City do it. I actually wonder whether Kane fits in that system, although Giokoumakis and Oh weren't necessarily the fastest most agile strikers when Kyogo was out.

I'm not sure who the full backs are at Spurs these days but they need to be able to come inside and play as a central midfielder much more than overlap. If he gets the time I would expect a top four finish for Spurs.

It'd definitely be a far cry from managing the one decent team in what's usually at best a two horse race. It's almost 40 years since a team that wasn't Celtic or Rangers won that league.

True but he's won the title in Australia and Japan too as well as winning the Asian cup and managing the Socceroos at the World Cup. He's not a rookie or low level coach by any means.
