Getting things back on track. 10 quid from The Rumbling Tum, Barras Market, Glasgow.

A proper 9/10 effort, only losing a mark for no haggis on the menu.

I actually believe in school uniform. However I think it should be badgeless. The school just does grey trousers/skirt with a red/blue/green jumper. Sadly this isn't what schools generally do.

I've seen schools were you need to buy bags, pe shorts, pe trousers, pe jumpers and shirts. All with logos and totalling over £100. We just used to wear white shorts and tees.

I wouldn't mind that as a compromise but I don't think it addresses the central issue of controlling children.  It's a short step from you must wear uniform to you cannot have a certain hairstyle, which also happens a lot in the UK. I do agree the primary justification for it would be as an equality measure. However, if we address that in other ways, uniform is not needed.

Countries like Finland who have a well performing education system think we're mental for enforcing uniform. It hinders children's development and reduces freedom of expression to fit in with school expectations.

Dunno. Poor kids with cheaper clothes always suffer with this. What I’d do is say if there is a uniform, it has to be provided free of charge. I’d also make all school dinners free. If it’s the law that children have to be in a place for 8ish hours a day, they should be fed.

Agree completely on school dinners but there's inequality in school that goes beyond the uniform with shoes, bags and jackets etc. Its main function is compliance but if we can introduce UBI the equality side of things is reduced further.

  4. 1. Universal basic income. It's been explained by others already but it's something that could address many of the issues we see in the UK today.

    2. Ban school uniform. The argument that it helps fight inequality is nonsense. So is the idea that it somehow helps children learn. It teaches them compliance and we need less compliant young people.

    3. Anything relating to health, social care or education will be free and delivered by the state or not for profit organisations. Private enterprise profiting from care and education will be banned.

    4. Private rental will be allowed but only if the landlord passes strict licensing exams, regular inspections and uses 50% of their profits to improve the property. Rents will be capped based on a figure related to the universal basic income.

    5. All chippies must declare whether they are 'Chippy only' or 'Chippy plus'. The former cannot sell anything hot that does not come out of the main fryer.

  5. I hope you don't regret making that post @Devon Malcolm because I think it's one of the best things I've ever read on any social/internet platform.  Before reading it I think I struggled to see the problem with the 'JK is rich anyway, think of the developers' line as well as the impact taking that view can have.

I hope you continue to contribute to the conversation with such honesty, although I appreciate it takes a lot to be willing to open up on such a deeply personal subject.

  6. I've never flown with a child that young but on the food front you can buy loads of healthy ready meals from the Little Dishes brand. Asda do them, pretty sure other supermarkets will too. There's also the Annabel Karmel range but they might be aimed more at kids just moving on to solids.

  7. Had a family meal at Toby Carvery today. This looks tremendous but had to go and get much more gravy due to how dry everything was.

  8. Sorry to hear that, Bacon. Until I was 16 my family was very close. Then my oldest brother ran away with a woman he met in a chat room and left his wife and then 4-year old son behind. This was in 2000 so he was probably a bit of a trend setter pre-Friends Reunited. Thankfully my nephew was and is still very much a part of our lives.

I have one other brother and two sisters, all older than me with the closest being 12 years older. My sisters no longer really speak, although I'm close to both as is my brother and we are all very close to my mum. The maddest thing is the reason they no longer speak is so long ago and was very much a heat of the moment thing, but they've never let the grudge go.

  9. Our very own @bAzTNM#1 had some brilliant videos of train journeys and walks around Glasgow on his YouTube as I recall. I don't often go looking for that kind of content but if I do watch something similar I tend to get lost in it for ages.

  10. Darts has historically had some right jealous folk in it. Peter Manley and Kevin Painter being good examples of players who lost focus so badly it cost them a world title. Littler is 17 and has probably not conducted himself in line with the etiquette at all times. But, he's 17. My 14 year old kicked his bed when I beat him at best of 5 legs from 301 earlier. Littler will learn to regulate himself a bit better as he matures. I'm a huge fan of his, I love his confidence to go for unusual out shots in particular.

  12. I know a little bit about mentalism and a touch more about magic tricks. Out of curiosity I went to a 'psychic night' in a pub about a decade ago. I was interested to see how they worked and was massively disappointed when they rolled out a series of low rent tricks that I had sussed as soon as they started talking. There was around 150 people there, all completely enthralled in it. Very lucrative because it was a fiver a ticket but 20 quid extra for a private reading, which 50 or so people paid for.

  13. TIL, that when moving into the middle lane to overtake on a motorway, there is no requirement to indicate  when returning to the left hand lane. I always do and my car has one of those lane management sensors where it beeps judgmentally at you if you change lanes and don't indicate.

  14. I also have a Kerry Von Erich one. I had the USWA compilation that was his top matches. He's constantly referred to as The Modern Day Warrior by the commentator. For years I thought there was some kind of beach in Texas called Modern Bay.

  15. I do Wordle, Nerdle and biNerdle every morning. I also play Countdown on my phone a couple of times a day. I sometimes tell my partner and my son how well I've done. Sadly, unlike the UKFF, they couldn't give a shit about dull club activities.

  16. I was reading a really horrible news story the other day when it dawned on me that the root cause of what had happened as well as many other things was the Tories. Whether it's cuts to social work budgets, education budgets or privatising the NHS, a lot of the shitty things happening to people can be quite easily traced back to a decision by this government. I know that sounds simplistic to say and probably rather obvious but I don't think a lot of people automatically see the connection and instead are much more likely to blame frontline staff or immigrants if they're handier. It's going to take generations to fix if most of it isn't already beyond repair.

  17. I find watching Littler is a lot like watching a Taylor, Price or Van Gerwen on top form, you never think he's going to miss.  He's very mature not only in his play but also how he conducts himself like a seasoned pro.

Also unusual for a world series event to make BBC's main website page, probably never happened before actually. I agree with Wayne Mardle that there's no need to hold him back as such but he is very young to be travelling so much. Hopefully there's a bit of thought going into his schedule, although I loved that he said he hadn't picked up a dart since losing the final.

Have to say that wasn't as much of a rib-tickler as Lion-O's story.

Sorry, realise it brought the mood down a touch! It seemed relevant though as it's definitely the oddest funeral I've been to.

Yeah all good. I've decided it's going for a service as its been a while and I worry myself sick every time I drive it (what's that noise? What's that smell? Did that cyclist get up?) so will give me some peace of mind.

I'm exactly the same. I drive a newer car now but it hasn't really reduced the driving anxiety that I get.
