Haven't heard Striker for years on a regular basis. But I can't see how it would be a bad thing as they desperately needed a change, Josh Matthews was sucking the life out of the product (which is lifeless enough without a crowd).

Good job Striker has the baton passed to him then. He was really cack in 2011 or whatever, did he ever get better or did he get worse than saying 'I'M MARKING OUT' and getting proper rightly rinsed for it.

Lawler couldn't stand the sight of him could he.

Daniel Bryan’s sheer delight at AJ Styles’ stupidity remains one of my favourite moments. His delivery of, “the Earth is a sphere,” is a thing of beauty.

Talking Smack was so great for moments like this.

I don't think I've ever seen this before but god that is amazing. AJ's initial reaction is weak that it's beggers belief he didn't combust from the embarrassment. Bryan has absolutely no time for it it.

  3. It's a Philly hardcore sort of crowd for that time of WWF, but Hercules and Paul Roma being recieved the like coolest, baddest lads on the block when they completely mullered The Rockers at Summerslam '90 is great. Roma for all the shit he came out with and all the weird criticism he gets, looks like the cockiest of pricks in that match.

Watch the crowd when they hit the Power-Plex. Lovely stuff.

Recorded him performing with fozzy for a dvd with the audio straight off the mixing desk. He sounds like absolute dog shit. He was so bad he ordered security to pull our cameras after 4 songs.

I was waiting to hear this pearl of an anecdote dropped. Love it every time I hear it.

  5. My super casual fan friend who I live stream watch AEW with only wanted to see it because she saw a meme of Orange Cassidy. She immediately was all in on Jungle Boy, his appeal is obvious.

EDIT: Forgot to add the only time my mum saw AEW was when my sister had it on and it was the Jericho/Jungle Boy 10 minute challenge, again, mother was all in on Jungle Jack.

  6. Yeah when you examine some of Vince's weird ticks in presentation and wording, they make a bit of sense and it just gets grouped into the Vince is a fucking weirdo pile.

The WWE Universe is still one of the most gash phrases ever created in wrestling though. It actually somehow makes wrestling feel even more fake and daft than it is on the periphery.

  7. He's a bit eh to me Sydal, but he's made a damn better effort than Matt Cardona did to stand out. Match helps both ways Cody has a show to promote and to look like a star. Sydal, who fair to him got a fucking shocking debut he's been getting past should get a good showing to be him as a strong veteran gatekeeper.

Nice to see the DARK commentary love here. Its the nearest commentary wrestling has done for me that sounds like radio commentary, you can listen to it in the background. Taz when told was is and isn't funny and to just enjoy himself is fantastic, he's also learned a lot not to bury people as he does it.

Never been a fan of Cody to root for him. I like his matches and a lot and think, minus that woeful tattoo that he feels like a star. I find the criticism of him generally hilarious.

  8. Really wonderful show, absolutely flew by. Not a single thing to criticise (people will find a way somewhere out there mind)

    Anyway, quick thoughts

*Every, I mean EVERY match on this show was incredibly fun and the small minor angles they ran absolutely flowed into the show and didn't feel weird or awkward. You'd think booking four six-man tag matches it would be much, but all the matches had a nice diversity and story.
*Talking heads bits giving their eulogies were all really hard to watch from their perspective, Kingston looked like he was internally screaming.
*All the videos played through the show were great and really touching, really lush to see his whole career covered from Indies to his AEW run and some shots of his WWE run to pop the nitpickers.
    *LANCE HARPER!
*The Good, The Bad and The Hungee match was one of the most fun, feelgood and genuinely great wrestling TV matches and moments this year with the extenuating circumstances. MJF dicking about and then stooging for -1 was a blast. John Silver is so much fun he's in danger of losing that goodwill down the line because that's what fans generally do (also maybe just the dour period of the year making me think the worst of them). But WOW, god he's fun to watch. His volley of mad spots that had JR popping was amazing and the ending of the match was really great. The poor lad Silver was in absolute bits after the match, you could also hear Excalibur just giving up trying to call the finish as he just got way too choked up. Jericho was good tonight, covered and jumped in to steer the ship with Tony. JR is always off, but Danny Hodge passed too so I'll free pass him tonight.
*Porn director Jake Roberts hitting the short arm was great.
*ROWAN. Big man here popping in to save the day in a great touch and with that and Archer we got a little fun Dark Order meets the Wyatt's cosplay.
*The whole bit at the end was the closest I got to getting the big sads. It was just a really brilliantly done tribute.
*Brodie Jr. looked like he was having the absolute time of his life and quite honestly that's all I'm arsed about for the quality of this show.

I agree on the red strap, I'm not a huge fan. I presume it was a nod to the old NWA TV belt having a red leather backing, which while nice doesn't feel like enough reason to do it necessarily.

It'll have a purple strap probably, since they mentioned incorporating something in the design as a tribute to him.

  10. I see Myers as a bloke grieving because his friend has just suddenly died, they are definitely doing more stuff on the network/maybe Smackdown.

No time for WWE but they were gonna be fucked either way here. It's cool to be a cunt to them at the moment because the TV product is dead as hell, they're shady as and because he couldn't do an accent that Vince HATED him.

In reality they did minor and tasteful tributes to a guy who didn't currently work for them, which got them stick for not going big, which would have also got them stick for looking like they'd be crowbaring their way into grieving before AEW and 'nicking' the tribute.

Basically it's fans not being satisfied with their personal minor specifics and therefore it's ALL wrong.

The WWF Magazine was out over here with the results to Mania 5 before it showed on cable.

What Cable used to do was show old shows on a Thursday (about a year behind) and quite uptodate ones on the Saturday, they eventually scrapped this and started showing Primetime i think or Challenge. Primetime was on Eurosport for some reason. As far as i can remember, may be wrong.

I've seen Primetime clips online and it had the Eurosport icon in the corner, why was it shown on their and on Sky at the same time?

  12. As a kid WCW was very much the Burger King of wrestling promotions in the UK as a kid on the playgrounds for me. We caught a bit of it, but it just seemed very substitute. Like their marketing just wasn't as good over here.

Later I didn't understand why TNT didn't show WCW PPV's like Sky did with WWF so I think I saw that as inferior in a naive way.

  13. They'll probably do a few minutes on him or a small segment with some of the big names tributes highlighted. Maybe he'll get a graphic and then a few minutes with some of his reel from his E run. That'll be it though, can't see them going full Owen tribute.
