Difficult to quantify, it’s mainly a gut feeling.  There’s lot of showmanship in their acts, a lot of appealing to the back row that would translate well into big arenas and glossy WWE entrances.

They’re both very attractive as well and have matinee looks if you know what I mean.  They’ll get a lot of likes, reposts, sell a lot of merch.

None of this precludes them from being a success in AEW but there are just certain wrestlers that look like WWE could make a lot of money with/for.

I’d love to know how AEW merch cheques compare with WWE ones.  I imagine some wrestlers could double their income.  You have to think it’s one of the reasons Jade went there.

I imagine the merch is vastly different and WWE probably coins in more as the biggest promotion with the bigger machine (regardless of AEW owned wealth). But on the flip for the AEW side they can also have their own merch etc, which probably doesn't equal WWE either, but they can at least market themselves and actually have merch. Matt Cardona being a super example of how to spin that.

  2. Doesn't Penta do AEW because it frees him up to work Mexico as that's his thing? Or an I getting the rules wrong again?

@Lokigenuinely asking here, what makes Starks & Britt feel more WWE? That's not a criticism it's merely not being a WWE viewer and not following what they look for? I'm guessing Cody in WWE now is similar to when AEW first began and he was cutting all those superb promos and angles from late 2019 to the start of the pandemic?

And they got all that from a guy pointing at a sign? Amazing. Dread to think how they react to HHH's regular pointy photos.

Pretty much, and here's me thinking Israel/Iran was gonna be the WW3 powder keg.

Are they angry because the guy would like to enjoy a drink without listening to screaming kids? I mean hardly crime of the century is it. Sometimes I wish that and I have three of them.

The chat tends to be that anyone who doesn't want kids being cunts in a pub or wanting kids in general also want to restrict the places mothers and therefore women are allowed, so they're all misogynists.

Because it's a hypothetical topic, WWE is the other major company (the bigger names aren't going to TNA, are they?) and I disgagree with your assessment of WWE's roster - they could do with a few more stars to pad out RAW, Smackdown and even NXT. The perfect example to illustrate this is by removing Cody from the roster. If he's not there, who does Roman lose to? There's no obvious choice - although you could make a case for people like Sami or Drew, they're not as 'nailed on' as Cody is.

WWE, simply put, does not face the same problem as AEW, as far as having too many wrestlers go. It's the opposite problem, and they could do with a refresh.

Can I ask you a hypothetical follow up? What do you do with who in AEW after you've taken some of their biggest and most identifiable acts and merch sellers? You've outlined the plan for them in WWE so I'd love to see what you do the strengthen AEW. Would these people all leave at once?

The bloated roster comes from one of the things that Khan has been praised for - he's given so many wrestlers a place to earn a few quid.

I was more thinking post ROH buy out. One thing I think Tony Khan did that was great was giving loads of people work on AEW Dark during the pandemic, but also they all weren't signed up immediately after or part of a buy-out. I think the ROH stuff is different and more the vagueness of who is where etc

  7. To desperately drag this away from chat that should probably be in the Tony is a Twat topic, one thing I genuinely am struggling with (real life means I'm watching less and just Dynamite) is the roster needs streamlining a bit, or having it's house in order more. I don't mean get rid of ROH, but just keep who you want on there. I would have kept that Continental Crown together and had that be the bridging link between AEW, ROH & NJPW. You don't really need that many titles prattling about. Sweet wholesome WWE is bad for it too. Generally wrestling has too many belts.

But yeah, I'd have who I wanted on AEW and really focus on that, and if I was bringing people in (not Forbidden Door guests), I'd at least try and give a reason. I still don't know if Shane Taylor Promotions for example are ROH or AEW, or are they both? Has Griff Garrison (not that it's important, poor lad) left AEW to ROH because he's mostly there? Little things like this make me wrinkle the nose a bit. I think I just like things clearer. Or maybe just having this open border works for other fans, it's better than brand splitting and having that awful Wildcard bollocks WWE had for a bit. Nothing wrong with mentioning ROH on TV etc, I just want things more clear and to understand who people are like that Japanese lady who popped up on Dynamite and snogged Mariah May. Don't explain everything to me obviously because that's twitter wrestling fan duh brain look no fans isn't AEW shit discourse, but gimme a wee hint guys. You've got the time, get RJ City directing some vignettes I dunno.

Anyway Moxley is IWGP Champ and is popping back next week. Death never takes a holiday and seemingly neither does Mox.

I was rewatching that Rhea Ripley / Liv Morgan segment and it really looked like Morgan sconed her with that chair. She's crap, isn't she? Not looking forward to Rhea wasting her time with her at all.

The only thing I really know about Liv Morgan is she has one of them rather mental Mercedes/Alexa Bliss followings that unfortunately actively put me off them by proxy.

  9. Oh god those trademarks. I reckon he's going to do one of those lifestyle guru cult characters or something which with Jericho will probably be annoyingly good then shit and completely wear out it's welcome.

Honestly if he just buggered off before Full Gear last year and came back recently we'd think he's less of annoyed sod, for now.

  10. Juliet has been portrayed as a zombie, a gnome and a seal in different versions, adaptions and productions. Naturally a person of colour playing her is obviously a bit daft.

WWE may be "garbage" (Its not, that's just utter hyperbole), AEW ain't setting the world on fire is it?

I think he means the inner sanctum of WWE is garbage because it proper is. Not the product itself which even people not watching like myself understand they are doing really well with their TV product.

Just seen the footage on Twitter now. Wow… was that it? Whenever you heard of backstage fights I always imagined them to be worse than that.

If this was a real sport or the lobby of the House of Commons I could see how it would be newsworthy. But in pro wrestling, where we’ve had ‘backstage attacks’ on weekly tv for over 25 years, it seems rather tame in comparison.

I may be desensitized to the whole thing by now but on a TV show where you’re always trying to put over heinous attacks, showing a guy being struck and being put in a front facelock being hammed up as this massive big deal is kind of funny.

Given AEW is on a channel like TNT not everyone follows the online stuff anyway and it would all seem rather confusing.

That's a good point actually that's rather sad. They'll be younger fans who still believe or are semi into that and will probably find this all very dull and confusing.
