  1. This is one of the very few times and examples where a top fighter dosent need a belt in order to show and prove they are the best or the top guy.

Connor doesn't need the title any time soon. He has a few big deal fights he can have that will not only draw huge numbers and ppv buys but also get some huge positive bits of press for mcgregor after all the recent shit at his door

  2. OK man I was stupid and fell for it..we all know that in the world of pro wrestling alot of shit isn't how it looks on the surface but they pushed so hard to try and prove they were legit all about British wrestling and doing the best for the fans it was hard not to get swept up in it all and actually give something the benifit of the doubt and trust them.

That's not being a mark it's just me wanting more than ever to be able to continue to watch and love an art form that I have loved since I was 8 years old. Wrestling was something I discovered when I was in foster care at 8 and it made me have something to look forward to and take me out of the shit reality of my horrible life at that point and stuck with it ever since

Dude come on don't be a dick... im not a fucking mark because I looked at a product and a set of people and believed what they claimed to stand for and supported them for it.

Why does that make me a mark for wanting to enjoy something?

  4. I am absolutely over the moon for alot of my long term friends that are now making money and are finally able to live of there dreams of having wrestling as there full time job. My main gripe and major problem was with someone like progress that did make me love wrestling again after years of me deep down hating and not enjoying it at all and personally buying into there mantras and whole punk rock pro wrestling brand to have them completely go back on everything they once preached is disappointing as a whole.

They started running in Manchester at the ritz but hxc had been long out of business and by that point hadn't put on a show in a year or so

  5. I didn't expect anything else than being called a mark or not understanding that people have families and kids....of course i understand and take that into consideration jesus.

What I'm saying is 3 years ago we had a scene that many other places were jelous of. The best thing about it and the part that made me proud was everyone coming together and saying we are proud to be independent and anything that was going on in wwe wasn't a touch on the constant 4/5 star shows we were getting week in week out.

To go from having such a public ethos of defend indy wrestling and 2 years later signing on the dotted line on a contract that states they can buy you out tomorrow if they want is so disappointing for a group of loyal fans that belived in everything you once stated you stand for again and again.

Progress going from being everybody welcome and don't be a dick to moving shows and letting the wwe dictate who can appear on the show...who can wrestle who....and who is allowed to win against who......

  6. It's not so much about branding everyone a sellout....what really leaves a sour taste in my mouth is the way that places like progress shoved down our throats were the company for the people britwres britwres britwres....Sorry were going to sign a contract with wwe that states they can buy out our company at anytime

  7. Now I know full well the mixed reactions I'm going to get with this but I need to talk about this properly.

5 years ago the British scene was bleak and filled with companies that were alright to very good and some shows filled with imports to get people interested....then everything changed and the mindset of our top level talent was were just as good if not better than the imports that keep coming over to main event our shows and the scene was buzzing and finally we had something so special and a country filled with wrestlers that were being looked at as hot properties..... we had defend indy wrestling a whole brand and group of wrestlers that were proud to be an independent wrestler and we all felt sorry for those amazing/hard working wrestlers getting signed to wwe and being used like shit and only getting 6 minutes on tv if there lucky.

I think this has genuinely upset me because I was done with wrestling...I couldn't stand the crap wwe was and continues to put out week in week out.... and now they have made NXT-UK and we were told that nothing would change apart from those amazing talent that we have supported and stuck by for years, Nothing would change they would just be put on the network and given a bigger platform for the world to see them.....and now what's happening, Those wrestlers aren't allowed to work in certain places or there are some heavy restrictions on them.

The guys that came together to create punk rock pro wrestling  (a heavily marketed anti wwe and we are the brand that is proud to be a British independent promotion) are now head writers for nxt-uk (no matter how you like to sugar coat it its wwe) and now our huge striving scene has been raped and pillaged by those who we were fighting to be an alternative too and it just seems like a really down and all together much less punk rock and way more radio 1 pop punk...

This might seem like just someone moaning about something that dosent really matter but I was in a really dark and horrible place a few years ago where my main job in music had become abit of a toxic place and my depression was seriously out of control and I don't remember how or why but I saw a clip of progress and jimmy havoc winning the belt and I was hooked straight away and for the first time in years I was excited and couldn't wait too see the next chapter. It gave me something anything to be happy and look forward to and really helped me out in that bad time.

The whole fuck the corporate giant that is serving us crap each week and us having to take it because we love wrestling and there's nothing else once again really spoke to me and gave me something to support and get behind.

All in all those who said they stood for British wrestling and we're here to give something else to the fans quickly changed there mindset and jumped onto the other ship.

Do I think British wrestling is dead no. But I think in the next year with this new tiered pricing packages coming to this he network we are about to see a huge change in the scene and i can't see it being positive for those who aren't a fan of wwe. Those signed to contracts will have a massive crackdown on who/what/where they can work.   Im really happy for those who did sign they are obviously on better money and that isn't something I resent but I find it so difficult to look at those who were support indy wrestling and making out that this would never happen and have that same feelings and respect for.

  8. This is actually something I'm really excited and proud to finally make public. I have been working on starting up a side project which is going to be doing shoot style interviews with British wrestling - talent and figure's from the past & present.

I have sorted out the first couple of names and I can't announce anyone just yet but I promise they are incredibly big and well known figures.

If you can and want to support and keep up to date head over to https://www.facebook.com/Behindthecurtainshootsuk

  9. This was what I was thinking about everyone's reactions to this story.

It doesn't matter what the crime is or how serious.....weather it's assault or j-walking the point is he's supposed to be the world champion.....what sort of world do we now live in were we are turning round to something like this and saying oh well it's not that serious he's only going to get fined or whatever

  10. Guys I've got a question to ask that's almost market research.... do you/people still buy dvd's and like physical copies of things now or is that not really interesting and it's all about online/digital now?

Just this week again Dana has been saying Cyborg is dodging the Nunes rematch because she’s “scared to lose” or some cobblers. Not buying that for a second.

I don't believe that for a second. Cyborg is not someone to dodge anything and I can't belive she dosent want to avenge her only loss to date

  12. I'm so suprised I'm the first one to say anything about this but progress are introducing a new title to the company

It sounds interesting whoever wins the belt will get to choose what the rules of the belt are.....so it could become a hardcore belt....or a cruiserweight belt.

It is a very inivitive idea on paper however it is caked in potential flaws

  13. What a genuinely terrible main card this turned out to be.

I was impressed with Edwards. And I couldn't believe what I was watching with the greg hardy fight, his opponent held his leg so tight I'm surprised he didn't cut off the circulation and then just knelt there eating punches until the ref put him out of his misery..... I couldn't believe what I was seeing

  14. Watched the new Louis theroux documentary yesterday and I felt really uncomfortable watching it. The main woman/the mum seems to be in that state where she has taken a beating emotionally loosing her dad and him being kicked out and ex communicated, the loss of her daughters and the general vibe of the group/cult as a whole.

I don't know if anyone else got the vibes that she is very lost and not as loud and clear and confident with her beliefs and views

  15. I think the Internet is absolutely to blame and I think in the next few years the magazine industry will be gone all together. I know that the local newspaper industry is dying out and will be gone in 2/3 years if that.

I love reading books and magazines but like I said when you can get your news as it happens 5 minutes after on twitter it becomes old news reading it 2 weeks later in a magazine you have had to pay 3 quid for

It makes you wonder just how bad some fighters have looked in the past to be pulled from fights due to concerns about the weight cut. For example, the commission pulled Max Holloway out of one of his fights (can’t remember if it was the failed attempts against Edgar, Ortega or Khabib) because they’d seen something they didn’t like. Was he even worse than Ladd here? A lot of why they let her fight last night was probably because they felt the card was weak and couldn’t afford to lose its main event. Which is a shit reason but it’s probably why. And it’s going to bite them one day. At the end of the day, I’d rather a fight get cancelled and we have a shite card than someone actually die because they’ve gone in there weak or not fully hydrated or whatever. There’s a reason Boxing fucked off the same day weigh ins (and 15 round fights) in the 80s and, as far as I know, it was mostly because fighters were dying, usually after being stopped in the later rounds and going in there severely dehydrated. The Ray Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim fight in 1982 being probably the most well known example. Of course, this is different as UFC weigh ins are 24 hours before, but it seems like fight promoters, athletic commissions or what have you, have forgotten how badly wrong it can go when you let someone fight in that kind of condition. If this was a stacked PPV and this fight was on the prelims, they’d have probably called it off. I think it was mostly because they didn’t want to pull their headliner that it even went ahead.

With all that said, thank fuck De Randamie ended it quickly. Like textonly, I don’t blame the ref one bit for erring on the side of caution. If this had gone deep into the 4th and 5th rounds, Ladd could’ve really taken some serious damage. Not saying she’d have died or anything but it could’ve been the kind of punishment that you don’t ever bounce back from in your career. It was probably a blessing in disguise. Hopefully the UFC push for Ladd to move up to 145 now. I know technically she made weight but what are we actually doing here? And it’s not a one-off. This is at least twice now in the last year that she’s looked in a really bad way weighing in.

Faber’s comeback surprised me. I really thought Simon might be too much for him after such a long time out. Still think this comeback isn’t going to go too well though. There was a reason he walked away in 2016. Even the initial exchanges here, I thought Simon wobbled him with a left hook and hurt him with that hard leg kick. Faber tagged him and closed the show but it still didn’t fill me with confidence going forward. Certainly not against Henry Cejudo. I get why he dropped his name in the post-fight interview but that’s going to end badly for old Arse Chin.

Oh and Ryan Hall continues to confuse everyone with his wacky but very effective style. What do you do against that? If you get too close he’s ripping your legs off but if you stand at range you’re getting hit with spinning shit all night. He’s managed to develop a style based almost purely on what are usually low success rate techniques, yet he hits them consistently. Elkins had a look of befuddlement on his face the whole fight. The crowd can boo, and to an extent I get it because Hall’s style is so unconventional and unlike what we’re used to, but that’s martial arts. You take what works for you and this is working for Hall. It’d be proper boring if everyone had the same style. Hall is nothing like anyone else in the game. He’s basically a real life version of this mad cunt off Bloodsport...

Absolutely agree with your points here I think the fact the card was a massive drop in comparison to last week's ppv has definitely impacted on why she wasn't pulled from it. And I think this is something that needs to be addressed as a major problem within the ufc and mma in general. When your putting out cards at the mass they are they are really backing yourself into a corner in terms of quality and interest. I think putting on 3/4 cards a month is just saturising the industry and also burning your fan base out completely.

Im all for and love the idea of a main numbered card and a fight night card a month but more than that your walking into territory of fans loosing interest and excitement and I know it's effecting the live/ppv market entirely. People are now watching cards a couple of days/weeks after on demand or online (wherever they choose to watch streaming/torrenting/downloading) and that means the fighters aren't getting those ppv bonuses because fans refuse to keep paying more and more to watch and support

  17. It is a massive shame and I was a regular reader for many years before I started to just be a casual wrestling fan and mainly watch British wrestling more than anything.

The major problem with any sort of printed publication is with everyone and there dog having smartphones and tablets ect we have the incoming news at our fingertips 5 minutes after there reported, for a magazine to be monthly they are by default so behind and reporting on news we knew about and have discussed and had updates on 3 weeks before the next issue has hit the shelves. It's the same with stuff like kerrang and there weekly readers/subscribers have plumited quite significantly.

The cost for them to print and distribute must be quite high and I would be interested to know what there monthly profits if any have been for the past year or so. I think if it was to go online like powerslam has become (if I'm correct) they would still get the subscribers that have enjoyed and love the articles that they are actually very good at doing  (history of X..inside/backstage scoop on X event/ppv).

This is just yet again another heavy reminder of how big of a impact the Internet and online news sites/twitter has become and how many huge industry's are effected by it

  18. I've just watched the main and Co main event.

Urijah looked very very impressive he turned up to make a statement and show that he can still go.

For me that stoppage in the main was a utter joke, the first punch was hard yes but she turned over and went into defence, the second punch hit her shoulder. Very very bad call from herb. I think from the footage of how she looked in the weight in's the fight was always going to end like that no one can argue that but to loose in that mannor must be crushing for ladd
