think there are many top wrestlers in their late 30's and early 40's who would find it difficult to work in AEW with how things are run there.

    What makes you think that?

Looking at people who broke into wrestling around the same time as Punk and even earlier, the fact that Billy Gunn, Sting, Christian, Danielson, Jericho, Dustin Rhodes, Paul Wight, Mark Henry, Schiavone, JR, the Hardys, Jeff Jarrett, Arn Anderson and countless others all seem to be doing perfectly fine working for AEW would indicate to me that renowned titty-baby Punk losing his head and trying to choke out a colleague is more a him issue and less a company-wide AEW issue.

Obviously we're not privvy to backstage or personal conversations and maybe all of the above do have issues working for AEW. But it seems far more likely to me that the narcissist who constantly whines and bitches no matter where he works is more at fault than anyone else.

    And I'm a Punk fan!

Sort of.  Mini Dream Team competitions you can play against the computer.  Win X matches in a mini tournament to unlock a contract/coins/level ups type stuff.

    It's a shame it doesn't even have a bog-standard offline league mode.

I gave Fifa a try last year when it was free on PS Plus but thought it was shite so would love Pro Evo to make a proper comeback.

  3. @johnnyboy Does eFootball have a dedicated offline mode yet? Last time I played was about a year ago and the gameplay was a big improvement on the shambles that it was at release (but still nowhere near PES). But if you've got no interest in online play it offered virtually nothing else, you could play friendlies between about 8 teams and that was all.

Am I missing what play on words that's even meant to be?  I've stared at it for 5 minutes trying to work out what it's a reference to.

    Nepo-baby I assume, but it's so shit I don't know if I'm right.

On that point about Takeshita, when he first started wrestling for AEW, a mate of mine used to complain that he suffered from the worst of AEW's "tell, don't show" attitude to their midcard - they told us he was a great wrestler and one to watch, but he never won.

I wonder now if that was intentional, that the point was always that he wouldn't start picking up big wins until he had Don Callis to give him his killer instinct.

I think it was intentional. There was a point where he was picking up wins on Dark a lot but getting the 'hard-fought loss' on Dynamite when he was against tougher opponents, and Excaliubur would point out that he's never won on Dyno and is searching for that first big win against an established opponent. It's been a really smart slow build to him becoming a killer under Callis.

    I like CM Punk.

This is a better return than Punk June 2023.

His AEW run was a game of two halves really. The amazing return promo, a cracking little feud with Kingston and an all-timer rivalry with MJF.

Then he won the title and it all fell to shit. The constant injuries, the weird digs to Bucks and Hangman in his promos, the returns getting more lacklustre each time, the 'Real' world title which never felt like it had any heat at all, the baffling Moxley squash, all the ugliness.

At one point he was one of my favourite wrestlers of all time so I'm incredibly grateful we got that initial year-long run of him being Best in the world again. But honestly, I'm not that arsed if we don't see him again as he seems incapable of a sustained run in wrestling without losing his head. I don't think AEW with that roster will be that hurt in the long run.

Airblade: I remembered this as being a fun, futuristic Tony Hawk knock-off. Lol no, sluggish trash. It has a story and you kill people with your hoverboard?! My memory is shocking. Didn't last long.

I remember seeing a video of this in Gamestation when I was a kid and it genuinely looked like the future of gaming. Tony Hawks on a hoverboard? Sign me up.

I was so disappointed when I played it a few years later. I remember the sluggish controls making it ridiculously difficult too, I don't think I ever got past the third stage.

A short singles feud with Orange Cassidy then move him into a feud with Eddie Kingston.

I can see Mox getting an International title match soon, and as much as I'd love to see the greatest title reign in the history of our sport continue, I wouldn't be surprised if they did a Cena/Lesnar-esque mauling where the injuries and schedule finally catch up with OC and Mox just brutalises him.

If Wembley can do that for you, then you're going to love the rest of it.

We were only really around Wembley during the show and for an hour or so afterwards. We started off in Westminster, had a bit of a nose around there, then our hotel was in Ealing so we had a few hours wandering around there.

Coming from the Midlands where a train turning up within half hour of its expected arrival is a result, the Tube is a godsend.

  10. I think I'm only just coming down from the whole experience.

I loved it all. It was paced perfectly and the crowd didn't flag once. Not as many arseholes as I expected. The whole atmosphere was fantastic and the booking was mostly spot-on.

I've also done the one thing I never thought I would do and fell in love with London. The last time I went was as an anxiety-riddled 18 year old and I found all of it, the crowds, the tube, it was all so intimidating and overwhelming. And as a result, I've always found London chat to be soul-destroyingly boring. But this time I absolutely loved the place. I've already booked up for a long weekend in a few months just for a wander around.

I fancied a pint after the show so watching thousands of people descend upon Wetherspoons/The Arch etc filled me with dread. Popped my head in a pub 5 minutes down the road (The Corner House) to find about 6 locals in there and nobody else. Cracking pint of Guinness too. Result.

It wasn't all great. AEW starting the pre-show an hour early without telling anyone was disapointing, we timed it so we got in at 5pm and finding out we had missed Jarrett, Miro etc started the night off on a sour note.

Some fella who was mortal drunk in the row infront of me lost his bank card and I found it, leading him to turn around and shake my hand about 15 times when I was trying to watch the main event.

Overall though it was probably one of the best weekends I've had in years.

  11. I told my colleague to watch The Stranger on Netflix, a creepy effective little thriller with Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris. He told me the next day he'd only made it through 2 episodes and couldn't watch anymore. Turned out he was watching the ITV-esque Siobhan Finneran show of the same name.

He knew it was a film so why alarm bells didn't start ringing when the first episode ended, I don't know.

  12. I'd never seen much of his stuff outside of WWE until a few months back. Eddie Kingston said he was the best ever on Schiavone's podcast so that lead me down a Funk rabbithole. He was so fucking good. It's no surprise Kingston loves him because he had that realism to everything he did that Eddie has managed to replicate. Just an incredible wrestler.

I still haven't seen that much considering the long and storied career he had so any recommendations would be welcome.

    RIP.

I think it would be good as an option, but yeah I agree. I'd much rather hear the person behind me sulking about how Fenix was better in CMLL or whatever and how they are keeping him down :)

Didn't realise you were sitting infront of me!

    You do not.

Edit: but you should. Its mad how more events don't do a comms style thing to allow you to listen along if you want.

I don't think there would be a massive market for it, to be honest. Imagine being in a crowd of 80'000 people going batshit for The Acclaimed and thinking 'you know what would make this better? Hearing JR sulk.'

Finished off the Indiana Jones trilogy with the boy. I hadn't seen Last Crusade in a good few years, and it's not aged as well as the other two. The films have always been a bit hokey, but this is just a bit too silly in places. Considering Henry wasn't the go-getting adventurer Indy was, he's just far too casual about the danger around him, and his constant little quips make him a bit Jar Jar Binks. I still do like his delivery of "Our situation has not improved" though when they're in the burning room.

I rewatched them all earlier in the year and thought Raiders and Last Crusade had aged surprisingly well. Temple of Doom has aged really poorly though and is awful in parts.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is better than I remembered until the third act completely shits the bed.

Off topic but I'd give that title to the Scarface game.

Off-topic (again!) but I'd go for The Godfather. Cracking game. 1940s GTA.

  17. Homer getting raped by a panda was the tipping point for me. Absolutely mean-spirited shite that was a million miles away from the original ethos of The Simpsons. I've watched a couple of recent episodes and they're fine, but still nowhere near the glory days of Bart Of Darkness.

"Grace, come here. There's a sinister-looking kid I want you to see."

  18. Fucks sake, 2023 and people are still banging that 'wrestling fans stink' drum?

This weeks Dynamite got me proper excited for this show. Stadium Stampede is the icing on the cake for me, and seeing the greatest champ in history Orange Cassidy in this match pretty much justifies the ticket price for me.

I've never been arsed about Adam Cole but they've won me over with this storyline, it's probably the match I'm looking forwards to most after Stadium Stampede.

AR Fox getting a showcase match in front of 80'000 people is mental, fair play to him.

  19. I never really thought Sami was the man to beat Reigns. It's always been Cody. To be fair, the vast majority of the fanbase still seem on board with this Bloodline story so when/if Cody wins I'm sure it'll still get a big pop and be a huge moment. But I really struggle to see how it would mean more than if they did it at this years Mania.
