Update: she didn’t call me and she’s now ignoring my emails. Wankers.

I would be tempted to write back and say something like you are a undercover reporter for a television show/newspaper sharing experiences applicants/candidates go through just so she shits herself.

  4. I did a fixed term job once and liked it knowing I wasn't going to be there forever, in the end I got offered permanent work elsewhere and had to take it for financial reasons but did later get offered a full time job for the fixed term job because they liked me but had to turn it down so it does have its advantages.

I think in an ideal world (without financial risks) I would love to always do fixed term jobs for 3-6 months, something new and different 2-3 times a year but too risky to be out of a job every few months and employers would look at my CV and see a short history between jobs which probably won't help me either.

I returned to work after time off sick and my manager didn't conduct any back to work assesment. I always thought they should be completing that straight off to make sure I'm safe to be on site, am I wrong there?

Much like a couple of offices I've worked in they don't really care as long as stuff gets done and generally overlook the odd cuts and erratic behaviour as long as I don't freak out the norms, so it's especially a box ticking job for them anyway, but it's made me question my prior understanding of the process.

You are right that they should be doing this with every person who has been absent (even if its 1 day in 10 years) from a health/welfare point of view but also selfishly the business can also manage absences.

If you are concerned about being managed on attendance/think you could be managed then I would just keep quiet if you've not had a return to work, something that could go in your favour in future.

Take a case like Hit Row though - shouldn't they be given an opportunity to make the fans miss them? They were called up recently to the main roster, so surely the idea is to get behind a group like that and make them into talent the fans care about? That kind of association and merchandise shifting etc comes with time and so many just aren't even getting that opportunity.

Yeah I get that. Maybe there is something more sinister at play, release them now either before they are mainstream stars or to over flood the market (generally speaking) in some hope that AEW have too much talent if they sign them up.

  7. I like Drake as much as the next person on here and I wish him well and he clearly has talent.

But outside of the UK scene is he someone the fans will miss or even notice? In WWE's eyes in terms of value I don't see what he brings to the party, isn't going to move ratings, I doubt he will sell merchandise or certainly anymore than he has done already. I guess he has a short shelf life and I don't see there is an upside to him so I understand from a value point of view why they would move him on.

But as already mentioned they probably measure these things by merchandise sales, google searches, YouTube hits and whatever else they have data on.

Edit - Forgot to mention that as a casual fan these days who dips in and out of the product, apart from Drake and Johnny I don't really know who the others are so can't imagine the majority of the fans would miss them either.

  8. Started watching a programme called 'You' on Netflix last week.

Not really too sure how to describe the show but maybe slightly comparable to Dexter (not really seen Dexter but know what its about), labelled as a thriller series but also easy viewing and quite funny in places with some joyful moments where you can't help but root for the main guy in the show.

Maybe I like it because I'm at that age now (or just my guilty pleasure) but enjoyed series one and can't wait to get stuck into series two.

  10. I don't know how these things work or even what it is, but always worth throwing exclusivity things in with the paid if you have the budget or the material to make this happen. Everyone loves exclusives/freebies and at least that justifies something of a difference between paid & free if you do end up giving free passes away.

I’m going to politely disagree with you on that one. If you’re only going to sign up for something (whatever that may be) purely to use/abuse the free trial then the onus is on you to cancel that, otherwise you get people just creating shitloads of burner email accounts every week/month/whatever the trial period length and signing up over & over and the business is essentially just giving its product away.

If your going to go to those lengths to get a service for free, you got to put the leg work in, and that involves cancelling each time and signing up with another account

I’m not sure about the Amazon Prime thing you mentioned, but the last two orders I’ve made with them has seen them give me 14 days free  without having to cancel myself. I haven’t asked for it, I haven’t used a code or anything like, it was just there when I went to checkout. Admittedly I didn’t take them up on it because I tried Prime a couple of years back and didn’t think much to it at the time, but I didn’t have to do anything at my end with regards to cancelling it

Yeah I do want to point out that I am not someone to abuse or take advantage of these things and I guess its because of people that abuse the system is why they do it.

I am just shit and forgetful so with Amazon & I think Apple Music (and something else that's slipped my mind) I did the free trial and completely forgot and then realised I've paid out for the month. I would much rather they just stopped the free trial and then allow myself to opt in/pay if I want to continue using the service. I guess I am skeptical that these companies know people like me will forget and take advantage. I'm sure that's what used to happen with free 28 days trial and things like that, but I am going back like 15-20 years ago.

Same day again, decided to cancel my Beer52 subscription while I was getting on top of things, and they will only let you cancel by phoning them, no online functionality whatsoever.

Talking of subscriptions it annoys me when you do a free trial and then are auto enrolled onto a subscription afterwards with YOU having to opt out at the end of the free trial rather than having to opt in. I think Amazon Prime are a good example of this and may have even been in hot water over it in recent years.

    Speaking of Amazon Prime...

My bank alerted me to a pending Amazon charge of £7.99. I had zero idea what this could be for. Amazon also hide their phone number behind some sort of indecipherable Web maze.

It turned out that they had charged me for my wife's Amazon Prime account. Her card had expired. At some point my card had been used when purchasing under her AMAZON account. Therefore they seem to think it was OK to use my card details when the Prime renewal was due. We now no longer have Amazon prime.

I had a similar issue on my American Express. My ex was added onto my account many years ago and when we broke up I asked American Express to cancel her cards and got told they did and then an Amazon charge of £7.99 came out on her card (which is my account) and they told me they could cancel the card but not payments like that and that I would need to speak to her for her to cancel it or take it up with Amazon. Obviously I wasn't happy with this and in the end American Express sorted it all out and gave me a credit back for the £7.99.

In fairness to my ex she always paid the cards off and probably didn't realise/think about the Amazon Prime but when I was told everything was cancelled on the card and the card was deactivated I thought it was cheeky of both Amazon to take the payment and American Express to expect me to sort it out.

  13. Saw Red Notice last night. Maybe I went in with very low expectations but thought it was a fun watch but did kind of get a little silly towards the end. I was watching at 2am in the morning so maybe its one of those films you can have on and just try and enjoy it for what it is (silly jokes/action scenes).

I do usually hate these kind of films though, so maybe I caught it on a good day/good time. As daft as it sounds, I would have gone in with higher expectations if I paid to see this on the big screen so watching on Netflix maybe lowered my expectations in that respect.

  14. Talking of decisions. I had the TV on in the background the other day and Sky Sports were showing one of their classic games (when City beat United 6-1) so thought I would just keep it on and watch it and it felt really odd seeing a game without VAR or stoppages. I know obviously the game took place before the days of VAR but no videos checks for 2 minutes or waiting to see if a goal stands because of possible offsides. A few iffy challenges as you would expect in a derby. But feels like VAR has taken something away from the game (I know it's served a purpose at times and worked really well at the Euros).

Couldn’t agree more. Everton guy too.

Brock Lesnar guy is the absolute worst. Not one genuine reaction to anything he’s watching. You can actually see him looking for the camera then breaking out a chant when he realises he’ll be on screen. Everton guy might want to match his t-shirts to his chants occasionally too!

I think I said this years ago on here in some sort of Super-fan thread, but when I was at WM32 Axxess Brock Lesnar guy was using his 'celeb status' to be allowed into the disabled line (which is basically a fast track) with the meets & greets basically saying that WWE fans wouldn't leave him alone and he couldn't stand in a normal queue. Yet comes across as attention seeking at all the shows on camera. Twat.

    Here's a third world "problem":

When you go to Maccie D's and they've got two lanes. You pick a lane, you're at the machine first and then someone comes along to the other machine and you hear "Hi, can I take your order?" from the other machine. Tiny rage inside. I was here first!

I find the whole two lane queuing system stressful for this reason, not helped when you've got someone in front who are probably ordering for the office.

Much prefer the single lane system, you know your place in the queue and if someone jumps in front of you its only because you've waited in Bay 2 for 10 mins for your 20 McNuggets.

Fair play to Steven Gerrard. Could’ve stayed at Rangers, challenged for trophies and managed in Europe but chose the tougher option of trying to keep Villa in the Premier League. Liverpool will also get a better idea of whether he’s capable of managing in the English Premier League.

I don't think keeping Villa in the league will be difficult. I know they haven't had the best of starts this season but that squad is more than good enough to keep them in the division. I know you should never take things for granted and stranger things have happened,  but I think Gerrard will be okay.

That’s only a fact if you cherry pick which bits you want. The US Grand Prix involved a hell of a lot of transatlantic flights. Even if every race was held at the same track, you have to factor in how those in attendance got there etc.

Hopefully international breaks for football are scrapped to help save the planet, pointless flying all the way across the world for a friendly.

Any excuse really to get rid of them is good for me.
