There are a lot of characters, and you're diving partway into the story. BUT... it's still an easy, fun read and it's not a bad jumping-on point. It's a bit like jumping in on S4 of Star Trek TNG or something - you'll figure most of it out pretty quickly.

In other news, does anyone know what the rights issues are that are stopping the animated movie from being shown in cinemas? The Prince Charles Cinema seems to be prevented from showing it, but I don't understand why.

You aren't kidding about the characters. There's tons of them. But you're right it's an easy enough read. I'm 3 books in right now. Really interesting and fun stuff. I can tell there's loads of stuff I've missed out on jumping in here but it's easy enough to get the gist. I can see me getting properly into TF comics if they are up to this standard.

It's not totally clear that it's Leader-1 but you can infer it by the presence of Cy-Kill!

I'm not naturally a comics fan but I adored the series More than Meets the Eye, which started in 2012 and, after a namechange to Lost Light, finished in 2018. You could do worse than pick up a digital issue or two from Comixology for £1.59 to get an idea of whether you might like it too. Its sister ongoing series Robots in Disguise was also particularly popular.

Cheers. I've just bought Lost Light Vol 1 from Google Play as it's under a fiver.

Yeah. In another comic series, Shockwave ends up smelting Gobot Leader-1 at the dawn of time or something. Tis a proper middle finger.

I also had no idea about this. Really intriguing. I've not really read much of the comics. I actually have All Hail Megatron issue 1 knocking about here somewhere, I should dig it out.

I watched the 2019 remake of Black Christmas (Amazon paid) yesterday, after a horror critic I followed talked about it being very underrated by a mostly male critic-base, as it was quite a feminist revision.

It's not sensational by any means, but it is doing some interesting stuff. It would have probably fared better if it hadn't been called Black Christmas. Other than a few hat-tips, it's much more inspired-by than a remake-of.

There are some effective bits in there, and it's clearly aiming at toxic male culture and campus date rape. And while it does it all a bit clumsily, I did find it pretty refreshing. When it gets it right, it works well, and could have been really good. The ending wanders off the map, but it's also pretty cathartic. Imogen Poots is really good, as she tends to be. Cary Elwes is fun in it too.

So, overall, it's far from a masterpiece, but was doing enough interesting stuff to be worth the time. And I'm much more a fan of films that try and fail than ones that set their sites low.

It not being a real remake didn't bother me at all. I admire that they tried something new and swung from the fences with the burial of toxic masculinity and rape culture.  However I was really into it for the first hour but they utterly flush away all the good will with the ending to the point that I actually think its reprehensible.

  5. That's why it's so badass. You can imagine some dinky dinky knockoff crowd funding something of that scale but the fact that it's the official version of the most epic character makes it so much cooler. If I had that sort of disposable income then I'd have been all over it. Shit I probably should have just bunged 2 on a credit card and flogged one of them a year later. It's pretty special.

  6. I'm actually really fond of Rock Lords. They are so daft that they come all the way back round to being endearing. Despite my fuck Gobots stance in the thread title and opening post its only meant as warm hearted derision. The Gobots cartoon was the drizzling shits but I'm quite fond of Cy-kill.

You guys see the crowd funded Unicron? Holy crap I wish I had the crazy money to get that and it is CRAZY money like 600 quid worth.

  7. There was chat about a Transformers thread in the Comics thread. My favourite toy line of the 80s by far, a really good cartoon, the best animated movie of the 80s and several highly dubious live action films.

So here it is an all purpose Transformers thread.

    FUCK GOBOTS!

I've been eyeing up putting a pre order in for these 3 from zavvi.

Always wanted Arcee as a kid and the Quintessons. They look bad ass.

    The algorithm doesn't lie.

Weird thing is I watched the film Peelers last night which is a ropey zombie movie on Netflix with strippers. One of which wears a diaper in her routine. It can't be a coincidence surely.

Shinjuku Incident is great, but it's a drama, not an action film.

I'll probably watch Armour of God 3 at some point, but I'll pretend it's not related to the other two, which will be easy as I already pretend Operation Condor isn't the sequel to Armour of God.

Yeah I think that's why it's been left on a shelf so long. I'm slightly less proactive with dramas and just plain forgot it's there.

Very fond memories of watching this alongside you and your other half at that special screening.

It's entirely possible I'm a little bias towards the film because of that very reason. That's easily all time top 3 experiences at the cinema stuff for me.

  11. Gotta disagree about Police Story Lockdown, that was dogshit. The action is awful. Chinese Zodiac is by no standard top tier Jackie but at least it has Jackie style fights and stunts. I guess it depends on what you are after with a Jackie movie. That reminds me I've had Shinjuku Incident sat an a shelf for the best of 5 years now. Should really get that watched.

I watch the new 2k restoration of the extended cut of Operation Condor last week and its even better than i remember. Just loads and loads of fun.

Not sure where to post this but I think I've even outdone myself. The Transport Police bundled me into Aintree Hospital and I'll be here the next few days.

    WTF?

I have a little ritual with the eldest, where she stays one night on her own with me per week, and we get something take away, usually chippy tea.

We got one last night and she caught me taking a picture of it before I served it and said "Why are you taking a picture of our chips?" and I didn't have a good answer, so there was no photo of it. Was nice though, but she did make me get battered halloumi so...

Would my weird internet friends not do as an answer?

    I mean that's what I'd say.
