Bryan "Pop" Robson with Bobby Shinton, at a meat-raffle.

This looks slightly more promising, in terms of the card. I think the last time they held an outdoor show at Jingu, Hashimoto vs. Chono was the main event:

Funny little story here. Harley Race attacked by a group of 4 guys. He grabs the nearest one, pops his eyeball out, turns the guy round, which horrifies the others & then proceeds to use the man as a human shield, whilst he gets back to safety. Cornette reads the story out, but it comes from someone who worked at Harley's wrestling school. Take it from around the 6-minute mark.

I remember that, sometime during the mid-2000s, there was a short-lived attempt to have professional, paid Olympic/amateur/Greco-Roman/freestyle wrestling, called, unsurprisingly "Real Pro Wrestling". They had teams of wrestlers, and I think it was done in a seasonal tournament structure. Given the rise of MMA, I guess it made sense at the time, and it did get some plaudits, but it just didn't get the numbers.
I still have this on DVD:
A combination of Olympic, freestyle & Sumo, with penalties for periods of inactivity. Many of the competitors are NCAA champions & Olympians:
Jeff Prescott v Steve Abas
Eric Guerrero v Erik Akin
Tony DeAnda v ?Bono
Ramico Blackmon v Donny Pritzlaff
Brandon Eggum v Markus Mollica
Ryan Tobin v Tim Hartung
Kerry McCoy v Brian KeckLancashire was something of a hotbed for amateur wrestling (now it's more Covid), with a lot of clubs in the Aspull, Bolton, Wigan areas. Some survive & thrive today, I believe.

Thanks John. Should've remembered that, as I have the documentary. It'd be interesting to hear the reasoning behind their decision not to release it, in some form, to the general public. May be it'll end up at an auction house?

Jackie Pallo v Mick McManus. A clip from the legendary 'missing footage', believed to be held by ITV. This thing needs airing before there's nobody left who remembers them.

Just as well Dave Whelan got rid of Wigan, considering his sports business has gone tits up now too. Not his best year.

Good quality recording of WCW Saturday Night from '92. I'd probably started watching a year or so earlier. Steamboat, Cactus, Rude, Austin, Steiners, Barbarian, Eaton, Heyman etc.

Cracking interview yesterday on Anderson Cooper's CNN show with an L.A emergency doctor. I think his name was Dr. Desmond Carter & unfortunately I can't find any footage. He managed to throw 2 "pissed off"s, a "bullshit" & even a "fucking" into the mix. All aimed at stupid politicians and equally stupid members of the public. Guy deserves a medal. It was a quality shoot.
-edit - His surname is Carson. Here's the interview, in-part. They've since bleeped the f-bomb out:

Great sleuthing there fella.

I can't recall because 9 years. Possibly prior to that. Didn't he first show up at Dominion in June? It was literally his first appearance, I was referring to.

Michael Richards... He has a good base, he hits hard, he looks like he'd headbutt you in a nightclub.Â
I'd prefer Marks & Spencer, but I'll take a nightclub.

Not particularly appropriate to this thread, but as 'minor news' has been scrapped... I only recently learned that current Wonder of STARDOM Champion, Giulia was born in England, to Japanese/Italian parents. Any chance of a new thread for miscellaneous/random stuff?..that isn't thread-worthy in itself.

Just remembered when they re-introduced Hideo Saito in 2011, following his excursion. The guy looked a monster. He became Captain New Japan shortly after. To counter-balance, I did say Kamaitachi (Hiromu) looked great at FANTASTICA MANIA 2016 in his match against Dragon Lee.

That's most likely what I saw.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed, or agrees, but Shida's facial expressions are really poor. I never got what she was about, in Japan. She's competent enough, but I rarely know what she's trying to convey facially. It never looks convincing. Taken in isolation, it'd be difficult to tell whether she's just baked a lovely cake, or taken a particularly awkward shit, based on her expressions.

Just referring back a few posts, with regard to the lack of upcoming native talent in NJPW. I brought this up in Oct. 2015 & again a few months later, also mentioning that it had been an ongoing issue, for a few years prior to that. Somehow, they managed to get through the ensuing time without it being too noticeable, albeit in all likelihood, to the physical detrement of some of the mainstays of the company (Okada, Tana, Naito etc). Creating new stars in NJPW is a process. Even the likes of; Liger, Okada & Hiromu had to do their young boy / rookie stuff, the excursions and so on. Obviously, you need the right guys coming through the door in the first place & for whatever reason(s), that by and large hasn't been happening for years.
For my own reasons, I watched so little of the lower card matches in the past 5 or so years, that'd it would be unwise for me to comment. Based on the tiny bit I have seen, Tsuji was the one who looked to have something. Hopefully more talents will emerge. The efforts along those lines, certainly seem more visible of late with Lions Gate & L.A Dojo.
