  1. With further discussion over links to dementia as a possible outcome of heading footballs, there's something I haven't personally heard mentioned (perhaps that's just me). I would have thought it an imperative that some comparisons be made between footballs these chaps would have been playing with, probably from childhood in the 40's & 50's and the far lighter modern ball.
These things weren't poly...whatever coated, aero-dynamically state of the art sports equipment. They were lumps of inflated pig, sometimes with laces. They weighed a tonne by comparison. Look at the boots they wore. Matchday balls would've obviously been the best available, but what did they train with during the week? I have some idea, because as a kid I ended up being given a ball that had come straight from Preston's old, Willow Farm training ground. It had heavy leather padding, but was thinly coated in a paint-like substance, which gradually peeled or wore off. That's when water would get in & make the thing exponentially heavier. You could waterproof to some degree with Dubbin (that was a greasy mess), but often as not you ended up with a soggy, heavy football. The ball was in nothing like pristine condition when I got it, but had been used just prior for training purposes.

Even when I was at junior school in the 70's, a teacher brought out this bag of footballs & I thought WTF? They were maybe half-two-thirds the size of a normal ball, with fucking nasty thick, criss-cross laces. Looked like they were from WW1. The other point being, that unless we regress, heading is a far less integral part of the game than it once was (does that factor in?) and lots of old people sadly suffer with dementia. Old bodies can be repaired, old minds can't. I've no skin in the game, having done all the heading I'm likely to do and I'd never suggest that heading anything is necessarily a good idea, but let there not be hasty decisions made, on the back of some recent unfortunate news. The scenario today would appear to be more than somewhat different. Does the science take into account the history? I don't know. Do you know? If so, contact me via CB Radio or Fax.

  2. BUSHI's been around a while, including AJPW for a spell, but he does seem to 'come and go'. Others may say different, but I can't remember anything outstanding in his career. He's not at Hiromu or Ishimori's level. I don't know about his current get-up, but he's been under a mask for as long as I've been aware of him.

  3. Today I learnt that a commonly used term (one I've never uttered) is deemed to be offensive. So, basically this is a heads-up not to use the phrase that rhymes with 'game', to describe individuals of varying and diverse ethnicities.

Segways nicely into a second point. I am not and never have been 'white'. I've even checked a colour chart (as I was unsure), thankfully it confirmed my suspicions. I suspect there may be others out there in the same boat. So if you wish to take my lead, I would strongly advise that any individual finding themselves generically described as white (fuck, that's offensive), stand up for yourself and help stamp out this dreadful, endemic and systematic racism. I also have major issues with the terms; limey, pom and cracker. So, please don't use those either. I'm now retreating to my 'safe space', feeling a little emotional. Think I'm joking? Funny, is it? Then, you'd better go and have a word with yourself and come back a better person.

I'm 36 now and its incredible to think that of all the Man Utd fans I know (a lot given everyone was starting to get into football around 1992), for them this is the first real sustained period of not winning trophies ad nauseum. Some are finding it hard to cope with that.

Personally I think its fucking hilarious mind.

I'm just about old enough to remember United in Div 2 after Denis Law hilariously relegated them, playing; Oxford, York, Orient, Bristol Rovers and the likes. Mind you, they were still getting crowds of 50,000+ and 63,000 at home to Sunderland, who brought about 10,000 of their fans. Shame it only lasted a year.

I know mention was made a few times that Southampton were briefly top of the table on Friday/Saturday. Best one I can remember was Carlisle United, who once briefly topped, what is now the Premier League.

  5. Whilst I have some, limited sympathy with the Prem managers wanting 5 subs (and only in the current circumstances), it would/will only further disadvantage the 'smaller' clubs. City, Chelsea & the likes can fill their bench with superstars, Fulham & Burnley, not so much. Far easier if they'd knocked the Europa & Champions Leagues on the head completely for this season. No doubt they'd have been into law suits and all manner of shit from broadcasters & whoever else benefits financially from those, though. It feels that football is being further and further removed from fans (even managers & players) and it's mostly non-football dickheads at the heart of it. I include VAR & fucking ridiculous handball rules in that.

On the fixture congestion issue; Preston once had to play 2 games in 24 hours. Yes, really. They even managed a draw in the second game, if I recall correctly. That's proper fixture congestion.

  6. Seems I'm the only one that doesn't get Adam Page. 29 years old, a 6-man tag Title to his name & AEW tag Titles. That's the future of the company is it? None of his promo's work for me. They're hammy and entirely unconvincing. I've never particularly equated/linked him with Kenny, or at least in any sense of them being best buddies for years (Bullet Club, BTE...meh). Kenny largely resided in Japan for years didn't he? Even if it were the case, who cares? They've dragged this shit out for what(?), better part of a year now. We've had the match, now move on and away from what must be one of the most overblown, unconvincing wrestling storylines ever. There's plenty of other talent to go with. Sorry y'all.

Seen a few cool looking SPLX t-shirts but it seems their website/store is down .

Anybody know if they are out of business or planning to relaunch.

Some of their stuff is pretty nice to be fair .

If it's SPLX Apparel, the website is functioning (as of now anyway).

  9. So, a 28 day lockdown, supposedly planned to end on 2nd December. At best, that'll leave the daily infection rate remaining at a ridiculously high level. End the lockdown, go straight into Christmas and its ensuing carnage, necessitating a longer lockdown shortly after.
An alternative would be some kind of return to the tier system, which at best will stave Covid off to a degree, but ultimately won't work. It's Johnson's project & he's been right on absolutely nothing so far.
The other possibility is that they already know the lockdown must continue and will simply extend it. They wouldn't have the balls to announce it now.
I would ask why we always have to be 2 months behind, but it's simple, we have dangerously stupid 'leaders', lacking in courage, weak and scared. Find out what South Korea and New Zealand did and follow that shit. It's real easy. Man, I thought my education was disappointing, but I'm a fucking sage comapared to these chumps. The money and lives they've cost through piss-poor judgement, in so many areas. Anyway, Covid will be  having a lovely old Christmas...best ever. Ho ho ho.

  10. I was fortunate enough to meet Nobby Stiles on a couple of occasions, even scored a penalty against him (he was in goal) at Deepdale, when I was 11 or so. Top, top fella.

I learned a few years ago that he was suffering with dementia. A very sad loss.

-edit- just remembered this. I was on holiday in Crete (1979 ish). One afternoon, walking through the hotel gardens, a young waiter passed me, looked at my top, which was a North End shirt, with a pnefc logo. The guy just said "ah, Nobby Steelez". Pretty remarkable really, that he would have even known.

Personally, I would have locked it down on the 7th. We're travelling in entirely the wrong direction & once again, not reacting anywhere near quickly enough.

    Quote me nevermore. Fucking idiots.

In one of the more unexpected news announcements doing the rounds a few places are reporting that Meiko Satomura is relocating to the UK and working as a trainer/wrestler for NXT UK.

I'm not aware of the details (language barrier), but she seems to have been been working with Chigusa recently. I surmised it was either a relaunch of GAEA or Marvelous. A couple of videos at the bottom of this page, though admittedly they are from earlier in the year. Her own Sendai Girls promotion seems to do little if anything these days:

They wont have to blame anyone. Manchester just refused to go to tier 3. Judging from a few LBC callers they should be penned in, and allow covid to spread according to one caller

Andy Burnham flexing his side-parting then! Send the fucking army in.
