I want Tim Storm vs Yuji Nagata, please.

A little while earlier, I was recalling Naoya Ogawa & Osamu Nishimura being NWA Champions, at various points in the 00s I think. I've yet to see the legend Tim Storm, but heard good things. Blue Justice, on the other hand, is in my veins...well almost.

Nothing concrete but I remember something about Kenny getting pulled up over some tax related stuff.

Wouldn't shock if New Japan tried to fuck with him. Probably someone here who knows more than me but I'm sure New Japan management are known for holding grudges and occasionally being petty, it's wrestling after all.

Don't think I've ever heard of New Japan having no complete clauses.

Fair enough. I think he was returning to work or be present for a DDT show. Could be tax issues, or as you say NJPW/Bushiroad trying to fuck with him. To be fair, they probably got the absolute best out of him, possibly at the optimum point of of his career and he had effectively been a native, having spent so much time there in the previous decade+. If anyone's aware of how and why it actually played-out, it'd be interesting to know.

  3. W.H.O now advocating herd immunity (again). I work on the premise, take whatever they say & do the direct fucking opposite. These are the same clowns that couldn't decide whether wearing a mask was a good idea or not, when it should have been obvious to a 6-year old. Woeful.

  4. Having raised the subject of the 15-month or so relationship between the NWA and New Japan (2013 - 15) elsewhere, I thought I'd have a look to see what happened to the NWA guys who competed in Japan. Not a great deal seems to be the answer, with the possible exception of Big Daddy Yum Yum, who apparently managed to get himself shot at home!...not life-threatening injuries thankfully. I may have missed one or two, but these were the guys concerned...not in the shooting.

    Jax Dane
    Rob Conway
    Michael Tarver
Big Daddy Yum Yum - shot at home!
    Wes Brisco
    Chase Owens
    Mike Kanellis

-edit-  Kanellis may have been part of an ROH deal and not NWA...who cares?

  5. Incidentally, with apologies if this has already been covered, but Cornette & his sidekick mentioned that someone was making it difficult for Kenny to even enter Japan. November 2019 being the last occasion, I believe. The vibe was that NJPW are really pissed at him. Was there some sort of 'no compete' clause when he left? To be honest, I assumed they'd parted on decent terms, NJPW having made a bollocks of some of their previous contracts. Anyhow, the upshot seems to be that there aren't and won't be any plans for AEW & NJPW to interact. I'm a little surprised, more than particularly bothered.

some people slated the Bucks/Hangman segment this week.

It was dreadful. Terrible ham acting. I'd long-since decided I had zero interest in BTE, as far back as it goes. Never been a fan of the Bucks, though they have been involved in 2 of the best tag matches I've seen in recent years. The idea that they've re-defined anything other than spotty bullshit, doesn't wash with me & never has. I don't particularly care about Cody & despite the amount of praise as he gets on here, Paige doesn't come across a star. In fact when he worked briefly on New Japan shows, he was just some bloke from ROH. Cowboy gimmicks aren't over with me, nor is alcohol in that sense. Hardly paints him as being a top professional, but then again Americans seem to be impressed by beer, even piss-weak beer.

  7. Well, it failed miserably. When they show previous IWGP Champions on the 'tron' prior to Title matches, his mug's gonna be up there. It might as well have been YOSHI-HASHI or Yujiro. EVIL has nothing going for him. Why is he evil for a start? I get nothing coming from him. Nothing to hate, nothing to like, just a typical strong-style wrestler with no particular characteristics. I mentally block out at least 50% of the English commentary anyway, particularly win/loss records, but things like Kelly trying to build up a stable, would go over my head anyway. It's just noise. That's on me, but unlike most commentators, I prefer to focus on what's going on in the ring, as opposed to what happened last month or what might happen in future...albeit that it's part of their job.

  8. I was probably half asleep and thought Shida vs. Thunder Rosa was a Dynamite match. Is it booked for their next PPV? Though I haven't seen the NWA product recently, NJPW had something of a relationship with the them, around 2014. Whilst there wasn't anything outstanding, seeing new or re-branded older talent, defending or fighting for Championships with some history behind them, was perfectly OK to watch. Some inter-promotional stuff could benefit both companies (AEW & NWA).

I can't remeber the fella's name, but the Promoter who accompanied the NWA talent to Japan was excellent. Straight outta the 80's. Anyone remember his name, or if he's still involved, since Corgan took over?

  9. I hadn't given it much or indeed any thought, but the current Champ makes a point. He wants to defend the I.C & IWGP Titles separately, whereas in recent months they've essentially been defended as unified belts. Part of the reason it hadn't dawned on me, is down to the stop-start nature of the year, with things re-arranged or dropped. Had events taken their normal course, it'd probably have been more apparent that we were effectively a (major) Championship down. The Champion has asked NJPW to clarify the situation & either allow him to fight for the belts separately or have them officially unified. At this point it doesn't particularly matter, but it will, as and when things become more 'normal'.

-edit-  Entirely agree with Ultimo the great's spoiler, which I would have brought up myself (in fact I did, earlier in the thread). I have no clue what they were thinking in the first place. Worst ever.

  10. I wasn't particularly up for the main event anyway. When the bullshit started, it pretty much lost me. How many times were ref's involved across the Title matches? Once would be one too many. Leave that nonsense out, or at least save it for something special.

  11. The Messi transfer situation looks like it could potentially be an unsightly, drawn-out affair. Barca wanting half a billion plus, Messi's side maintaining he can leave for 'free' at the end of the season. They can't even agree on when the season ended (June or August). Not sure anyone's gonna come out of it looking particularly good and I've probably had enough of it already. So I'll shut the fuck up.

  12. I won't spoiler it, other than to say there's been something of a landscape change, coming out of the Jingu event. First couple of matches were meh, the rest of the card was OK, but no more than that. Interesting visuals from the stadium itself, but the mix of a tame live crowd (as requested), some piped in fan noise, commentary from Kevin Kelly in the U.S and Chris Charlton from an office in Japan made it somewhat hard going, for me anyway. That said, I can happily watch raw footage without commentary, which ain't to everyone's taste. Charlton looks pretty much how he sounds. Massive glasses, with a head attached. G1 starts in around 3 weeks, then I guess we're pretty much done for the year...that's normally the case for me anyway...if not for you.

  13. If Messi signed a 3-year contract, on wages of £600,000 a week, it'd equate to £93m, with no more outlay...if my maths are right. Clubs have done worse deals than that. This assumes that he triggers the 'free transfer' clause he apparently has in his current contract. Fuck-tonne of merch' opportunities there too, for whichever club he ends up at. Before anyone asks, I clawed £600,000 / week out of the air. No idea what his wages are, or his demands would be. If it's less, even better for someone.

I remember cody tweeting after brandis 6th? Match, claiming she was one of the fastest learners he'd ever seen and the fact that she was training on the road instead of a school was inspirational....... That boy has the love blinkers on hard, and the tag tournament currently smacks hard of crockett Cup booking... I'm not saying he's definitely involved, but I wouldn't be shocked.....

Interesting that her first match was in 2011 and the second in 2016. From there on, it looks like everywhere Cody goes, Brandi starts appearing as a 'wrestler': indies, ROH, TNA & AEW. She even has a victory over Tessa Blanchard in 2017. Can't imagine Tessa was too thrilled about that. The annihilation of Cody was great btw.

Anyone know or have an idea as to why Monday Night RAW is missing from Aug 21st (last episode listed) up to Sept 11th (first episode back) in 1995 on the network? Its only two weeks worth but thought all RAW's were on (with exception to most recent 4 week spans).

I guess the question's already been answered, but as I'd already checked (best I could): There were 2 RAW tapings on 28th August (Canton, Ohio). Other than a couple of editions of "Superstars", the next taped event was "In Your House" on 24th September.

  16. Your external link's dead. 'Fighting Spirit 2004' sells for around £18 (used) in Japan. If your DVD cases show the original purchase price in yen, multiply by 0.7 (or thereabouts) to calculate the cost price in £s (e.g 4500Y = £31.50).

I don’t understand what the Uughh is about, is it the competitors in the tournament?

Everyone else is either tied up in other matches or lives in America.

    Did you not realise this?

Yes. That's exactly what it is. Okada needed time off to put this together?! I've done more interesting shits....and no, I don't make mental notes of everyone's schedules, but it was clearly the dregs of whatever was left over.
