I've been enjoying Jay throughout G1, he's a great heel and love him winding up the crowd "chant Ibushi's name...c'mon chant!!!....that's right YOU CAN'T" nothing unusual but I thought it was well done.

As for G1 no idea who will win I've just been watching matches I like the look of so dunno who's ahead in points etc

Absolutely with you on both of those.

  2. Very much enjoying Andy Burnham & his various counterparts thinking they have any real say in what goes on. Coming out with stuff like, 'this has yet to be agreed'. You'll do what your fucking told sunshine. Where does he think he is? Portland?

Having heard about Holdsworth being the "king of legato" for years I was quite excited when I got an opportunity to hear him for the first time, expecting to hear something similar to other well known legato players like Satch and Malmsteen. What I heard could only be described as the CD pretending it was a tape being chewed up by the machine.

Just disjointed spasms of random notes over chords that sounded like drunken doorbells and with no identifiable rhythm. I tried to listen to that track a few more times over the next year and it would just make me really angry and irritable.

Glad it wasn't just me then. Can't even remember which album I had, "IOU"" rings a bell. Bought it around '88 anyway. Sporadic, scratchy, tuneless, anti-music. Utterly pretentious in my opinion (as you tend to find with jazz / fusion music). I didn't know until yesterday that he was English.

David Brooks should definitely be playing Premier League football though. A tremendous talent although he's better playing as a number 10 than on the wing.

Somewhat difficult to comment, due to his lengthy lay-off, but the form he showed prior to that was outstanding. I'm pretty surprised nobody came in with a serious offer. Clubs have spent £50m on some right old shit, so I'd have taken the gamble @ £40m or whatever his price was.

Like many others, VAR first & now the handball rules (along with other appauling & footballing-wise, clueless officiating) are making a fucking nonsense of the game. There was 1 big issue that took years to sort out (goal-line technology). I'd have been happy to argue the toss on individual penalty, offside calls etc. ' til kingdom come. We've managed successfully that way for over a hundred years. You could even argue that was part of the joy of being a fan. Leave these bastards to it & you'll end up with a game of quarters, puncuated by commercials...seriously, don't put anything past them. They clearly aren't football people. Oh & Blatter, get to jail, you cunt.

  5. I was around in their heyday, though never a particular fan of the band (bit too American). He was an excellent guitarist though. I believe he was heavily influenced by Allan Holdsworth, though the 1 album I bought of his was virtually unlistenable. The solo during Beat It was possibly the best ever (in a pop song), Eruption was great and had he patented his style, he'd have been worth an absolute fortune. If anyone can get hold of the Pasadena, Oct. '77 gig, it's a particular favourite of mine, from years ago. I imagine it's on youtube; full of energy, raw & dirty. It also went by the bootleg title of Midnight Cash & contains some soundcheck material as well. R.I.P Eddie.

-Edit- Guitars101 currently have a lot of VH bootlegs posted (mostly in 'Lossless'). So if you fancy some unreleased, live performances or studio demo's, you might want to head there.

  6. Avoiding mass quotes, thanks to anyone who replied. Unfortunately (fortunately), I don't do app's, but suspect that I'll probably live without IMPACT. It just happened to air in a convenient slot & roughly followed AEW. In the event that there was something I really wanted to see, chances are I'd probably get to see it anyway, somehow. ITV apart, they don't half air wrestling on some shitty, two-bob channels.

Impact has signed a deal with Premier Sports in the UK. Impact will be shown on FreeSports every Wednesday at 10pm, and it looks like PPVs will be shown on their Premier Sports subscription channels.

Does anyone know if they'll be exclusive to Freesports, or will it still air early-Saturday morning on 5-star or whatever it is? I have the latter, but not Freesports (anymore, apparently).

  8. I'll get off the fence. I was never really on it in the first place. At this point, I see no need for any interaction between the two companies. I had no problem at all when Moxley came in to NJPW. He knew the score, came with his MMA shorts, looked and wrestled the part of a G-1 competitor and then pissed off again. Jericho was fine too + he had prior with New Japan anyway. New Japan will have talent coming through the dojo. AEW needs to establish the roster it has, if and when everybody can fully return. Covid ain't going anywhere in the near future & non-essential international travel should be a no-no (for people who actually give a fuck). In the same way some don't want to see puro-style matches, I don't want to see pro-wrestling entertainment bullshit...or at least not in the same ring. Whilst an apparent block to a potential relationship has been removed, it doesn't necessarily make it any more likely. End of the day, it probably excites Tony Khan more than NJPW hierarchy. Never say never, but no necessity for either company at present.

  9. OK. Thanks. Wherever I saw it mentioned, they were hinting that she might have a no complete clause, or similar. Couldn't really see that being the case, but with Vince, you just never know. That reminds me, Mayu vs. Syuri's just happened. Might be a worth seeing. Though Mayu can be a bit botchy at times.

  10. Kairi Hojo/Sane has announced that she'll be pursuing an ambassadorial role with WWE in Japan, which I think may possibly have already been mooted or stated as fact. She also mentioned continuing to be a player. My understanding of the Japanese meaning of 'player' would normally lead me to think an active roster member. So, unless there's some ambiguity to that statement, I'm not entirely sure how that would play-out. Unless of course, she ultimately wants to return to the U.S.

Britt Baker has started to lay it in with her strikes since she returned. Best she's looked yet.

Massive improvement, albeit against a jobber with little to offer. If she can repeat that against better opposition, she'll be fine. It's only a few days since I made the point that she wasn't actually very good (in-ring) prior to her layoff. Looks like she's been putting in the work; physically, technically & character-wise.

  12. I watched it in its entirety. Biden got fucking mauled. It's a win/win situation. Either way, you're gonna get a prick. Great fun watching America behave like a 3rd World country. November should be truly excellent. Gonna get me some chlorinated chicken to celebrate.

  13. Is it not just a case of there being a comparatively small pool to choose from, compared to male wrestlers? WWE already picked up the best from Japan (which no longer has a production line of stars) & the indies. TNA have somehow TNA'd there way into acquiring the better of the rest, leaving AEW with what's left, for the time being. It's fine rhyming off names from the indies, but a lot of those names have been around for years and the fact they haven't been picked up, suggests they're possibly not upto it, on some or other level.

I saw Aja Kong's name mentioned. She's a shell of the wresler she was. Hardly surprising given she's been active since the age of 15 (1987) and probably knows nothing else. It's probably 20 years or more since she had a match of any real consequence.

There's a lot of hype about Britt Baker. Seems people have very quickly forgotten how poor she was in the ring. I actually quite enjoyed her 'dental holds'/finishers, but there really wasn't much else.

I heard Tessa had a deal with AAA. Don't know if that's true, or indeed if it'd make any difference to her working for AEW, if they wanted her. Also mention of Statlander being injured, but if memory serves, she worked a show a few days ago, elsewhere.

If and when everyone's available again, they probably have enough depth in the division for now and barring raids on other 'big' companies, or contract releases, it'll probably have to do.

Gatoh Move and their social media were mentioned earlier in the thread. I'm imagine AEW need that like a hole in head. The state of it:

  14. You could simply avoid the thread until you've seen what you need to see. Other than speculating about what might happen (which is a bore), what would bring you to it anyway? There's little or nothing else happening / worthy of discussion.

Anyone still trading? Looking for 90s Japanese and US stuff, PM me if you are, or have any leads.

    Cheers

Still have plenty, but I now only consider orders totalling £25 or more. Fine if you want to bulk-buy, not so good if you don't.

-edit- Please ignore. No longer interested.

  16. Probably time Prof. Witty stopped adding caveats when giving Covid overviews. He's trying to balance medical science with issues that are absolutely not his concern (schools, pub closures, the economy etc). If he thinks a full lockdown is essential (not saying he currently does), that should be his advice and nothing more. If he lacks the guts to do that, he shoud step aside. His job is not to try and balance science with government wishes. Personally, I would have locked it down on the 7th. We're travelling in entirely the wrong direction & once again, not reacting anywhere near quickly enough. As for those who continue to disobey the guidance and rules (and trust me I'm not a rule-taker, by nature), you really are cunts. Fuck you and I genuinely hope it comes back to haunt every bastard one of you and your mamas.

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with turning up to wrestle sober

    (1) Have I slipped into some parallel universe?

    ___________________________________

    (2) Either I'm grossly underestimating the strength of these characters & their 'stories', or there's a lot of teenage-esque, fan-fiction & man-love being talked on here. Outside of this & similar Twitter bubbles, I don't see any of this stuff (Omega, Paige, Bucks) being even of remote interest to casual/occasional viewers, or people with little or no knowledge of Japanese wrestling and particularly BTE. I'm wilfully in the latter category. How does the Ibushi thing being mentioned link to anything, for the great majority who know nothing of him and little of Omega, or their history? There's a certain level of smarkiness involved. Seemingly, a proportion of you can't recognise the hammiest of piss-poor acting, even when it's manifestly right in front of you. The Paige stuff has been laboured and awful, as have all the BTE angles. I had more belief in Papa Shango. At least he started and finished matches without having to neck a drink, go for a little cry, or worry about what his 'friends' were thinking. With a touch of luck, it'll be blown apart and largely forgotten about. We'll then see what they really have to offer; good, bad or indifferent.

  18. Just saw Chris Kamara 'die' on live TV. He's on Steph McGovern's lunchtime show, adding 'comedic' asides. Truly dreadful. Probably down to him not being very bright or funny. Who knew?

  19. Next week (23rd) will mark 5 years since Asuka made her WWE in-ring debut . I may or may not have missed some, but these appear to have have been her 'strongest' or most established opponents over that period. It doesn't include tag or multi-person matches: (NXT) - Bayley, Nia Jax, Mickie James, Nikki Cross - & - Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya, Sasha Banks - . I think I'm right in saying she didn't face Rousey and hasn't yet had a singles match with Baszler. Before checking, I would have guessed the list of 'top' names would've been longer & even including Natalya is stretching it a bit. Have I made any glaring omissions and are there any good opponents left for her? I don't know her current contract situation or future plans.

Adam Barton was at Wrexham last season. One of the worst footballers I have ever seen.

Not quite as intended. No expense spared at Wrexham, on the match programme front.
