  1. The thing is with Test cricket, to me anyway, it's not something you watch intently for 5 days. It's more something you dip in and out of, follow the score at work, listen to the TMS commentary in the car, and watch the final session and highlights in the evening. They key days are usually at the weekend so I'll watch more then but even so, it's rare I'll sit in front of the TV all day watching all of it.

  2. TBH I don't see Test Cricket returning to free TV. When the BBC had it they didn't treat it like a big deal at all, the match would go off the air for the news, and Neighbours. Channel 4 did a better job but they'd still shunt it off to Film 4 to show horse racing. I think 20/20 internationals would be ideal for regular TV though. I know there's this "Hundred" thing supposed to be starting next year but it sounds like an absolute clusterfuck.

  3. This is sad to see, i would say that Sky owe their success to the WWF more than anything else other than the Premier League. I believe it is the WWF's longest running TV deal at about 35 years.

  4. Why does the Nations league have a 3rd place game? UEFA don't normally do them, there isn't one in the Euros for instance, or the Champions League for that matter. It's normally a FIFA thing, for the World Cup I can accept it but they have one for the Confederations Cup and the World Club Championship which is just stupid IMO.

Speaking of Channel 4, I have hazy memories of a French cartoon being shown very early on, I think, Sunday mornings.

Im sure it was Tintin-esque style, kids being adventurers/detectives and the only memory I have is them running through a train.

Could’ve been French, could’ve also been any language if I’m being honest. Not much to go on I know.

Only French cartoon I remember from around that time is Robo Story. But it doesn't sound like what you are on about. No-one else seems to remember it.

Whose stories would people like to see if they did a season 2?

The Battle of Atlanta (the Ann Gunkel Georgia wrestling War)

Jarrett and Lawler take over Memphis in 1977.

Dynamite Kid and Stampede in general.

    The Mid-80s WWF expansion.

    Dino Bravo execution.

    NJPWs dojo system.

The whole Plan B thing with Bob Roop and the attempted takeover of Southeastern.

Otto Wanz is responisble for a lot. The only thing better than him having a sponsor on his singlet, that sponsor being fags (Milde Sorte) is the sweet CWA assaults on the pop charts. Some real faces and names here, and a WCW wallet thief.

Disco Dave Taylor (Top Flight Reslo Gimmick, that one), singing "Nitty Gritty" is Grade A. The late Larry Cameron has a lovely voice though.

That's not Larry Cameron, it's Hercules Boyd.

Who was the WCW locker thief?

  8. I remember that Eurosport wrestling coming on at all hours of the day as well, with the topless ring girls. They had some absolutely terrible wrestlers but occasionally you'd get the likes of Kensuke Sasaki or Owen Hart showing up as well as the British WOS guys and some of the decent European workers like Mile Zrno and Franz Schumann.

  9. Is it fair to say that Giant Haystacks was a Haystacks Calhoun "tribute"? There's a long history of the UK grappling scene aping the US. There was a UK version of the Road Warriors in the 80s that was Skull Murphy and someone else I forget. And countless guys adopting the names of American wrestlers, the most notable of course being Steve Regal.

  10. I watched the Coen Brothers exclusive to Netflix Western "the Ballad of Buster Scruggs". It's ok, six short stories, some Hollywood big-hitters in some of them, Liam Neeson, James Franco and the like. Fairly downbeat in that most of the segment have sad endings. An interesting addition to the Coen Brothers filmography but not up there with Fargo or No Country for Old Men as one of their best films.

  11. Yes but when A was the  best, you couldn't get better than an A. Now that 9 is the best, you aren't going to get a really clever kid getting a 10. The limit was announced beforehand, not just broken whenever the the person marking the exams felt like it.
