I bought an LGBTQ+ hat from Universal Studios last trip. The fact they donated $28k disgusted me.

This is the first article I’ve seen call out Disney directly. Though I know historically they have donated to various Republicans and Democrats before. The whole thing absolutely sucks and can’t believe as scummy as Florida is, this was even able to pass.

Disney have had a litany of gay erasure stuff thrown at them

2022 and this is still problematic. See also tokenism in films, a big hey to The Avengers... Infinity War or whichever the last one was called

Let it go is still afaik a coming out tune despite this :/

I know there’s a few on here that watch Rugby Union and only about 4 people on here that watch Rugby League, but former Newcastle Falcons and Wigan player Va’aiga ‘Inga’ Tuigamala has passed away aged 52

    Oh gosh that's awful news

Fantastic player in his Wigan pomp, back in the days when Rugby League was in its pomp. The cross over matches with Bath were epic back in the day as well.

Terrible thing to hear today. RIP

OK, I’ve done another one. Yes, they’re hard questions in a sense but if you just know then you know, otherwise have fun and just guess. Again I’ve hovered around 80s/90s WWF and it’s one of my favourite niche topics, “Card Subject To Change” - 15 questions for a total of 16 points plus tie-break option if required.

    (1) Who was announced as the challenger for the Intercontinental title on two early SummerSlams but didn’t make it to either for real or kayfabe reasons? 1 point

    Warrior?

    (2) Barry Windham was announced on Macho Kings team for Survivors 89 but replaced when he had surgery then quit the company - can you remember what his gimmick name was at the time? 1 point

    Widowmaker

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (3) The Model Rick Martel had two SummerSlam matches announced for SummerSlams in 1990 and in 1993 but didn’t wrestle either of them, a point for each opponent you can name? 2 points

1990 was Tito for the Strike Force Blow Off, no idea in 1993.Hacksaw??

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (4) The Undertaker’s celebrated debut as “the mystery partner” at Survivors 90 was actually a substitution - who was originally announced as the fourth member of the Million Dollar Team? 1 point

    Bad News Brown

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (5) The match where Hacksaw, Sgt Laughter, Texas Tornado & El Matador beat Col Mustafa, Berzerker, Skinner and Hercules is probably the most chopped and changed match in Survivor Series history, FOUR different guys were announced then later pulled from the face or heel teams (2 each) due to injuries or departures. Highly random so you only have to guess one for the point. 1 point

    Paul Roma?

    (6) Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels at Survivors 92 was set up before Shawn won the Intercontinental title from our dear Davey Boy - can any of you remember who Bulldogs announced challenger was? 1 point

92, no idea erm, The Mountie.. He was around IC belt at that time.

    Bezerker

    (8) Sherri Martel was involved in the first mixed tag in WWF PPV history at Mania VI. She was also announced for what would have been the second but quit or was fired before it happened - who would have been the other woman in the match? 1 point

    (9) There were THREE announced matches for Mania X that ended up changed or scrapped - Earthquake’s match, the Womens title match, and the ten man tag dropped when the show went long. I’ll give you the point if you can name four participants out of the ten. 1 point

    Headshrinkers, Rick Martel and Tatanka??

    (10) Bam Bam Bigelow was one of the many wrestlers that had great runs but never held a title in the 80s/90s. However once he was pencilled in to win the tag belts in an announced title defence which became non title when plans changed. A point for ANY of - which PPV (including year), his partner or the opponents, or you can volunteer 2 or all 3 facts which I’ll add to your score in the event of a tie break. 1 point (plus tie break)

Tatanka, 1995 Rumble. Sparky Plug and Xpac..

    (11) Razor vs Double J & The Roadie at the first In Your House was meant to be a tag match but Kid had suffered a neck injury in Germany - can you remember who he was wrestling at the time? 1 point

    Diesel?

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (12) Which singles match announced for a mid-90s Mania had to be changed to a multi-man because the office knew it could be too crap for WrestleMania due to the rapidly-dwindling stamina of one of the wrestlers? Clue : weight gain involved. 1 point

    Yokozuna vs Vader?

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (13) The planned (and later cancelled) Ahmed Johnson vs Farooq match at SummerSlam 96 was planned when they finally got Ron to sign, however the WWF Magazine previewing the show had already gone to print. Who did they announce as Ahmed’s originally scheduled challenger? 1 point

    No idea

    10 hours ago, air_raid said:

    (14) Speaking of Ahmed, he had a match announced for In Your House : Final Four before the card got shuffled due to the injury to Shawns smile. Who was the big Johnson originally going to wrestle? 1 point

    No idea

    (15) Sid had THREE matches announced for PPV in 1997 that were cancelled due to injury. He was supposed to wrestle Bret at Revenge Of The Taker but was injured. He was supposed to wrestle Mankind at A Cold Day In Hell but he was still injured. He was also supposed to wrestle at SummerSlam but after a car accident he was re-injured - who was that meant to be against? 1 point.

    Ok, here’s my question…

In the six Royal Rumble matches from 2010-2015, only 3 men entered at #1 on two separate occasions each and in the same order (2010/2013, 2011/2014 & 2012/2015).

    Can you name them?

Alberto Del Rio, Edge and Tensai hazarding a guess.

  5. Don't follow much pro wrestling at the mo, but has  Codyentered Warrior territory in terms of odd angles, things that make no sense and then fucking off when he cant get what he wants, ie superstar dosh?

It's why he left WWE in the first place too wasnt it as Stardust pissed him off as he was going nowhere quickly.

Maybe he is done for the moment.

  7. Really wasn't follwing wrestling enough to have seen the likes of Quake in the UK 2001 for Twa?? , nor Yoko's last tour Brian Dixon's UK Wrestlemania 2000 tour Im still lead to believe Yoko's last match was in the New Olympus Theatre vs or tagging with Greg The Hammer Valentine, though expecting that to be corrected.

However during the Britwres revival from  2000s- mid 2010s got to see wrestle/manage and or meet a veritable who's who. Steiners, Dudleys, Ricky Steamboat, The Million Dollar Man,  Golddust, Vader, Honky Tonk Man, Jake the Snake ish, (no ring Blackburn debacle) Then the likes of Liger, Pentagon Dark, AJ x2, Kevin Owens, Austin Aries, Doudrop/Viper, Awesome Kong, Sarah Logan, Ultimo Dragon, Finn Balor, John Morrison and so forth and so on. Seen plenty of the wrong uns  from both sides of the atlantic wrestle too as well.

The glaring misses are Earthquake, Aerostar for 4fw, Mr Perfect in 2002 and Warriors last hurrah in 2009 for NWE in Spain. and the Powers of Pain whenever they've been over.

I've been really lucky to see loads of the people I've wanted to see along the way. So not that many regrets

Watched the first two Ip Man films last night, subbed, although the second one tried to foist a dub onto me. They were enjoyable. The scene where he fights Jin in the first one and his wife says "try not to break anything" as she's leaving was amusing, and the final fight against General Miura was good, but I was not prepared for the second half of the second one to turn into Rocky 4. I was waiting for Vince DiCola's training montage music or Heart's On Fire by John Cafferty to start playing. The fight with all the masters on that desk was impressive. Sammo was good as well. The first one didn't feel as wire worky as the second one. I'll probably try and get the other 2 out of the way tonight. That lad turning up as Bruce Lee at the end was nice as well. I hear Mike Tyson turns up in the third?

Preston Guildhall and Bus Station turn up in the 4th one.

It was a bit jarring but hey ho.

Been on a bit of a retro splurge on Prime

50/50 with Peter Weller and Robert Hays is a typical Cannon action film, ergo it is gloriously silly in places and thus a must watch.

Mach 2, is an amazingly awful action thriller set around what looks like a promo flight of Concorde at somepoint with a completely different story arc thrown in to match the footage.

Epicly bad and has bonus  Michael Dorn Lance Guest in for added hilarity.

Over on Netflix, Betty Gilpin lands a substantial role (fuck you, The Tomorrow War) and does what is a riff on Hard Target in the form of the Hunt. Very enjoyable, despite not being massively original and having a tiny budget is a fun watch

Reminded me a bit of Series 7: The Contenders which is no bad thing.

It's a small thing, but I saw someone complaining that LGBT+ History Month was in February, because that was Black History month, and how this was being repressive, etc - because they absolutely didn't understand that US LGBT+ History and Black History month aren't worldwide events. LGBT+ History month, being a UK thing, happening in February (and Black History Month in October) just infuriated her.

Yeah, the continued americanisation if things is becoming really problematic for things like that. Because it doesn't follow American norms, other places must be 'lying' or in someway repressed.

Reminds me of a time I got kicked out of a trans group on Facebook for explaining that to someone not out, or can't be out for whatever reason, that volunteering or being forced to use the wrong pronouns over and over again can be more damaging  to that person than people would ever know.

Thus, forcing pronouns is not a good thing for some and consideration should be made before lynching those who do not as there are usually lots of reasons why not.

However, because it was a US based group and I was a brit. I was labelled a rabid Terf and the rest of the insults that go with it before being unceremoniously booted from the group. They never even bothered to check if I was trans or not, 😂 😂 😂

Also what happens if someone was black and lgbtq and the two things were run at the same time? Do they have to pick one? It's ridiculous.

    16 hours ago, jazzygeofferz said:

If it wasn't for black trans people at the stonewall riots LGBTQIA+ rights fights possibly wouldn't have been set into motion, so I can understand the idea behind them running alongside each other.

Dont tell that to Terfs, they will absolutely crucify you. This is despite Stonewall Inn being used  to pick up drag queens, and crossdressing and trans sex workers.

I stumbled across this Shostakovich piano piece during music A level. We weren’t studying keyboard music but we had the CD set containing recordings of pieces from the other modules on it, so rather than listen to the ones we were supposed to be studying, I was listening to everything else. I still think it’s the most beautiful piano piece I’ve ever heard.

That's a lovely bit of music.

I was going to add this the other day. It's from an old friend (used to manage one of his old bands MySpace pages back in the day). He's a gloriously talented man, accomplished guitarist and drummer as well.

Also not sure if Classical guitar type thing was in the remit, but heard this the other day and thought was stunning.

And finally Two Set Violin discussing 10 bits of Classical music everyone should know.

  11. The Planets suite lost a lot of impact as Holst was a local composer growing up so overplayed to the point of ridiculousness.

    Mars still kicks arse, mind.

I always thought Battle in the Air from the Battle of Britain took inspiration from that, though maybe the only one.

You've then got other film classics such as Gabriel's Oboe

And even video games getting in on the act.

In terms of immersion Two Set Violin are great for getting started.

    As for classic, classical stuff.

    Peer Gynt

  12. Boss Level- Amazon Prime

Neat Groundhogday/Edge of Tomorrow  style actioner but with added Crank style computer game madness.

Mel Gibson plays up to his past and it's acknowledged that he's a douche for it.

Frank Girillio isnt bad in it either, he's awful in Jiu Jitsu with Nick Cage.

Enjoyable, not too long and not too much of a sacchrin mess either. Plenty of retrogaming references as well.

You sign a contract, you’re signed. You can no more tell WWE to “fuck off” than you can your landlord over your tenancy agreement. You’re in for the terms signed for, for the duration, unless the company agrees to early release. Or you can put yourself in a legally precarious position.

    Thanks for that.

So he can basically do the minimum required to honour that contract, or actively rebel and get rinsed in court?

Not that different to a football contract then.

He could retire and get out that way, no??

  14. Things have gone spectacularly tits up in the last few months. I've been off work with Tendon Damage to my shoulder after an innocuous fall at home. My Ex Partner has stolen 1500 quid, done a bunk just before Xmad and I've had to Clare's Law her, report her to the Police and then through things discussed with them she may get further charges relating to prolonged Domestic abuse

I've not been sleeping well, not eating and have been incredibly stressed. I've been put on Beta Blockers, Meal Replacement Drinks and Sleeping Tablets.

Yesterday, work decided to also try the 'we're looking to sack you trick,' email sent to my personal email on late Friday for a Monday meeting.. (Yeah, I see what you're doing there.) through incapability despite offering nothing to rehabilitate or aid with return to work.

This is despite them literally running schemes about workplace health and wellbeing (luls). They've done  nothing around DV which they knew about from my previous Landlord trying to sexually assault me and my Stalker returning, and now the current situation either especially as working from Home.

The last 11 months have been a complete nightmare to be honest. 2 moves, on top

Mentally I'm holding up okayish considering, as I've sadly been through a lot of this before (back injury , previous abusive relationships)

I'd wouldn't mind a break from the stress at somepoint. Be nice to have some normality.

Instead, Police statements today, Possible Escorted visit for her tomorrow if she turns up, then ACAS, my union etc on Monday.

If anyone has any decent employment in the home, laws/rights links or employers duties to employees in the home or DV related stuff that would be most helpful.

Same regards what happens from arrest to court and any experience with small claims

I'd also like to know what my whistleblowing rights or going to the press rights are due to the ongoing treatment by work.

Finally any help on negotiating a pay off would be useful. It's clear they dont want me. I'd take a pay off, but would have to include the lack of them following any health and safety at work protocols and trying to sack me whilst actively being at risk of DV in the workplace (home) and them doing literally nothing about it and the potential of avoiding a possible IT.

    Many Thanks

  15. Sneakers is just brilliant

The cast look like they are all having a fab time. Sir Ben Kingsley totally hamming it it up as the big bad with great reasons for being so.

It's a film that's light but accessible, smart and taxing without being too challenging has a stellar cast, is well crafted and directed and is just outstanding fun.

Consistently one of my favourite films, pairs well with another Redford heist movie, The Hot Rock and actually works well with Without a Clue which is also on TPTV this week.

Yeah not too many secrets then.

  16. Politically, I'm left wing. Usually that sits somewhere between Lib Dems and Greens. Went with Greens last time out as was intrigued by their local approaches and community based resolves on top the environmental stuff, fairness and empowerment of people.

Lgbtq issues are important to me so a strong lgbtq pisition helps when making a decision to

I'm a bit of a political wanderer to be fair as tend to go with manifestos and ideas, still catch election hustings where I can.

I was disenfranchised for a long time so try and make my vote count where possible
