  1. Ooh just seen this and whilst a brilliant idea in theory, there's all kinds of issues noted in practice as noted throughout the responses.

The one thing not mentioned is that with a WhatsApp or Discord, it's another thing you have to keep up with or can give anxiety through fomo or  burnout because you've run out of spoons and is too much. Less is sometimes more.

I'd suggest therefore  a pinned Mental Health Support  Locked Thread with numbers for help and additional websites for help etc.?

  2. There's a cracking article on family estrangement on the bbc https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20211201-family-estrangement-why-adults-are-cutting-off-their-parents

I've never had the greatest familial relationship and didn't speak to my dad of nearly 5 years because of transition, ditto with my brother.

Because 'family' is ingrained as important in wider society, Christmas becomes this massive bundle of toxicity and full of red flags.

Just because they're family doesn't mean that old relationship patterns exist, especially if parents or siblings were abusive or toxic.

Just because they're family doesn't mean that you still have to be in that parent/child set up and be subject to toxicity as they try and parent you still.

Just because they're family doesn't mean that your boundaries can be trampled all over.

Just because they're family doesnt mean you have to bow to peer pressure, emotional blackmail or try to keep the peace.

It's a hard thing to do, however being guilt tripped over the grand kids or emotional pleas to enter a bad situation should not over ride your wants and needs.

No one should have to do that because of tradition or anything else if they dont want to.

Playing with these lads. Totally worth the wait. Merry Christmas.

Now I've got to get my mits on Starscream, Dirge and Ramjet. At least with Starscream it should be pretty easy to get the TFM86 version.

I know it has its detractors but I love the Ark Pat. It's a toy I never thought would exist let alone be Titan sized. Not to mention it includes the double cool Mainframe/Teletran.

They look so cool, good luck with your Seeker hunt!

I'm agog that managed to get it think it's superb for what it is, need more space apparently 😂😂

  4. This round of Omicron is flying through my family and friends. Dad positive PCRd last night, he's ok, they think mum's already had it :/ Couldn't get LFTs or PCR at the time, lost her taste etc

One of my besties has been struggling for days (hoping she doesnt end up in hospital) and loads more have caught it in the run up with my old poll teacher also testing positive.

    Stay safe out there

I trained to be a Samaritan but due to having to do a certain number of nights shifts and having a full time job I had to quit. I would happily volunteer again if it weren't for the mandatory night shifts.

I had to give up for similar reasons doing an early morning shift into a full day of work, didn't work

If people want to do it see when your local Samaritans open/recruitment events are.

One of the best experiences of my life, I did it to give back following umpteen mental health issues. Set me on a completely different career path and opened so many doors and opportunities.

Let's be honest, the Bill Gates/conspiracy stuff is nonsense, and the people who actually buy into that kind of thing are what they always have been. A fringe minority.

When you look at the statistics it would appear that vaccine hesitancy, especially when it comes to the Covid vaccine, is centred for the most part on non-white groups, people with dependent children from the ages of 0-4, adults educated to below degree level, renters rather than property owners, and lower income earners from the most deprived areas.

For me, the most sensible approach to dealing with this situation is to find out exactly why people from these backgrounds aren't as quick to accept the vaccine as other more affluent, more white groups. The answer certainly isn't to start threatening minorities and working class people with expulsion from the health system.

By doing so we're simply doing the 'Tories jobs for them far better than they ever could themselves. Expel the poor, working class minority groups and provide unfettered access to healthcare for the more wealthy, predominantly older and white demographic.

And what is a "legitimate reason" in your eyes? And who would you have determine this definitive list that decides if someone is shunned and allowed to die, or given life-saving treatment? The government? You would trust them with that task? I'm sure they'd love to take you up on that considering the demographics I've mentioned above.

And please, enough with the "anti-vaxxer" shite. Leave that for The Sun and Sky News. What we're talking about here, for the most part, is vaccine hesitancy when it comes to one particular vaccine. We're not discussing some outback survivalist who's stockpiling weapons for the great race war and thinks every injection from the government is a tracking device.

These are, for the most part, reasonable people with legitimate concerns that deserve to be addressed properly rather than dealt with using threats of expulsion.

Having worked for the NHS and then doing a Covid Community thing, I can confirm that your reasoning is absolutely bollocks.

Most people are not getting jabs because of lack of trust that the system works, will treat them like a human being and will meet their needs , whether its race, religion, sexuality or gender, the reasons are usually the same, no trust in the system and nowt to do with socio economics whatsoever. I've only worked with hundreds and hundreds of people, so I'm going on first hand evidence of that. Getting over that has been especially difficult.

Within them there are anti vaxxers, who believe the conspiracy bilge and those the notion of bodily purity still ranks highly and they will still take outrageous risks with their bodies whether it is sexually or meet ups socially or generally extreme activities.

However, if they're not vaxxed then there's likely to be some loss of liberty should things go that way. Personal choice doesnt mean that you get to potentially kill others. It just makes people selfish dickheads.

You haven't been this wrong since you called Westworld a horror film.

Cool, I'm glad you're not afraid to voice your opinion, however  I'd really appreciate you not  trying to gaslight mine.

To me Westworld is a horror https://www.joblo.com/the-test-of-time-westworld-1973-292/ and A Star is Born is a musical.

You dont agree, that's fine  however quite capable of having my own views ta.

    Ps Musicals are Shit.

A film about music but not a musical.

I'm not going to argue with Odeon who called it as a musical https://www.odeon.co.uk/odeon-scene/a-star-is-born/

Its listed as a musical most other places with diegetic musical being wheeled out for others http://www.drurymirror.org/2018/10/12/in-honor-of-a-star-is-born-an-analysis-of-diegetic-musical-movies/

    So I'm sticking with musical.

  9. One of my Exs was really into musicals, everything from Chicago, Buddy:Cast Recording, The King and I  Moulin Rouge, Mary Poppins etcetc.

It was depressing as all hell.

I understand why people like them, but not for me, Clive.

if I had to pick a few  then Little Shop of Horrors, Blues Brothers, South Park and A Star is Born (Gaga/Cooper version )  however tend to avoid musicals like the plague where I can

Regards Blues Brothers, Shake Your Tailfeather is one hundred percent a musical number as well

  10. Dropping like flies up here a local event I went too has had  multiple Covid positives. I've been feeling shitty for most of the week but not tested positive, yet.

About 6-8 people on my friends list tested positive on top of that yesterday.

It's only a matter of time with this wave isn't it??

This all feels very much like his own party have their knives out, but I just fundamentally don't believe that it will have any lasting impact.

Sunak nodding he should go was telling I thought
