Other way round but Peter Beardsley nearly killed me gunning his BMW at ridiculous speeds in my college car park.

If we're going down the road of "celebs" nearly maiming one of us, Toby Anstis once accidentally pushed me to the floor in Toys R Us in Wood Green as he was being rushed to turn on the Christmas lights and I cut my head on one of the shelves. After the parmedics checked me over (not sure why we didn't go to A&E, different time), the manager was so worked up about the potential complaint that might be forthcoming they let me have a £50 voucher and any one toy I wanted from the shop that day.

No apology from Anstis though. Although I'm not sure he even realised it happened.

I just discovered one here on the south coast.  Went to a pub in Worthing that had Harveys ales on tap, and they have two in this category -

    https://harveys.org.uk/beer/dark-mild
    https://harveys.org.uk/beer/old-ale

I had the latter, it's marvellous.  A bit more bite than a very mild mild, but still malty and smooth.

Most pubs in Sussex that aren't wanky craft beer pubs (so outside Cebtral Brighton) normally have a decent selection of Harveys beers on tap including those two. Lewes is a lovely day trip if that sort of beer takes your fancy, Harveys have a cracking tap room at the brewery too.

Sriracha on eggs is godly, it's more for scrambled but works on fried.

100% agree, I love siracha on most things, but something about eggs just takes it to the next level.

  4. Went to a charity shop today, and among the usual copies of FIFA 17, old suit jackets and mismatched glassware I came across a couple of unexpected wrestling items.

The first, was this winged eagle pillow. I have no idea why these were produced, but it seemed like something worth a couple of quid.

Then I turned around and found there was a Lucha Libre themed biscuit cutter set. It's clearly never been used, so again I snapped it up.

This all got me thinking, and aside from the odd WWE DVD you don't see tonnes of wrestling stuff in our local charity shops, but have any of you ever found any fun/interesting/bizarre wrestling-related items in a charity shop? Post your second-hand hauls!

On the one hand, they could do with investing time and energy in a new top heel. Drews contract is up, Romans slowing down to virtually nothing with each passing year, Raw will look very babyface heavy if Cody and Punk (when he comes back) stay on the show.

    On the other hand….. no.

I have to imagine they feel he's going to stay given all the Punk-baiting and the renewed focus, wouldn't be shocked if he's already signed.

Ospreay is 100% going to either turn on or be betrayed by Don Callis.

Much as I dislike Ospreay as a person, the idea of him feuding with Callis and them eventually doing an Ospreay/Omega tag match against some variation of the Callis family sounds tremendous.

It should be mind bendingly easy to give the people what they want, and the numbers have proven they can still make money and do good viewership that way. Their raging hard-on for 1999 is now tripping them up way more than it ever has before.

I do wonder if we're in for some convoluted, silly Attitude-era-esque shenanigans at the press conference on Thursday. Reigns somehow baited into fighting both nights and Rocks match being non-title (as the "Head of the Table" thing is inexplicably more important for reasons), with some sort of  eye-rolling "gotcha" on Reigns cooked up by Cody and Rock, only for there to be a sting in the tail where Cody had to "defend" his shot against Sikoa on night 1 or something equally unnecessary.

I believe in the end they will have a satisfying resolution, but for some reason they seem intent on tying themselves up in logic knots to get there.

So yes, very 1999 in many ways.  Complicated rarely equals compelling and I think they are risking a lot of backlash, or worse, apathy during a time they can ill-afford to diminish what little good will the company has given what's going on outside the bounds of storyline.

So. I watched the Rumble. That's noteworthy as it was the first WWE show I've watched in maybe 5 years?

    My thoughts:

    - quality of the wrestling is still sub-par

    - I hate seeing Cody in a WWE ring

    - Roman Reigns theme song is better than the old one

    - Nice to see Eli Drake doing well for himself

    - AJ styles is being wasted

    - Pat McAfee is awful

    - Delighted Mercedes Mone didn't turn up

I think I preferred it when you were endlessly banging on about watches no-one cared about.

  9. I was once accidentally shoplifted a turkey from the supermarket.

It was 2020 and they'd just cancelled Christmas. I braved Sainsburys to pick up the necessary stuff for the big day, but there people basically climbing over each other, maskless and being mental. So I panicked and got out ASAP, only realising afterwards I'd not scanned the bird in question.

Imagine not voting for Chippy Tea or Fry Ups.

Fucking house shows over Frankies sausage? Piss off.

I know you were being flippant and meant no disrespect there, but in fairness it's clear a lot of work went into that house show thread and I feel like it definitely deserves to be on this list. Just speaks to what a broad church this forum is that we can enjoy a varied off-topic as well as a highly in-depth on-topic. Something for everyone.

I voted for Fry Ups myself, but I can 100% see why others might go for the House Show thread.

He gave back 400 million dollars because the Saudi's murdered a journalist. I don't doubt he cares about the bottom line, it's his job, but to claim that outweighs any moral objections he has does not appear to be based on precedent mimsy.

Fair point. I still think that's to do with the optics and the share price, but perhaps I'm wrong. We'll have to see how it plays out with the Vince situation and if he's as morally staunch on this issue.

I was reading earlier how Ari Emmanuel (sp?) culled a load of deals in Saudi years back to do with UFC, even though it meant losing money long term, as it was the right thing to do for business.

He seems to have been pretty ruthless in the past, when it was “best for business”, when it came to axing deals, or staff. I’d bet a pretty penny that Paul is concerned currently.

Share price hasn't dropped massively, if it does he'll act until then I doubt much will happen beyond an investigation and a few token firings. Definitely feels like it's just about whether it hits him in the pocket rather than any moral objection.

I'm so so sad seeing Tom Morello there.

Don't get me wrong, I love him but it just hits home that I'll never see Rage live again.

They'll be back together in a year or two I reckon. Especially if Trump gets re-elected.

  14. Obviously on one hand it's terrible timing for Punk. Mania main event on the horizon, rotten luck.

On the other hand WWE love a comeback story, and Punk doing the full injury vignette, big return thing could be big business in six to eight months.

Another thing, given his particular brand of righteous indignation, is that it might be a good time to lay low and not be actively associated with WWE in a major on screen role given everything going on. As such, coming back when things are a bit less dicey might not be the worst thing to happen, especially with the big Netflix launch not too far off.

  15. I know there's far more important stuff to discuss, but humour me for a moment. It dawned on me during the Rumble, that CM Punk seems to be slowly morphing into Jon Hamm. I couldn't find a good photo of Punk from the Rumble itself to illustrate this, but I think this will do. screen-shot-2022-01-02-at-75104-am.thumb.png.9b31ecec240355e59965af5b9ccf8998.pngE-JvmK7VkAE5ogx.jpg.e2ea7cb35b8fe827042abc592cdc1c6f.jpg
