  1. Aye, can't argue with any of that. I've said this before on the board, but I was so gutted to get Sky in early 1993 when all the proper stars started to leave. By the end of the year, shows were being taped in high school gyms with the Quebecers and Ludvig Borga in the midcard. I know a lot of people hate Hulk but Bret Hart was never going to cut it after him and Macho left. I just wonder why such a large shift. I know business was falling off a cliff in the USA and cuts had to be made, but was business ever going to be any good with that roster?

  2. If anyone is looking for a cracking little podcast, here's one. Allan Blackstock's podcast has started off very well with a great interview with Greg Lambert and the second one has the UKFF's own PowerButchi and John Lister waxing lyrical about the UK scene past and present. Check it out.

Includes the line "he could sleep with my mother and I'd cheer him on" from our Butch.

Following on from listening to this show, I'm amazed that the WWF's popularity fell off a cliff on a national level in the UK at almost the exact same time in 1993. I think it would have been between King of the Ring and Summerslam when pretty much everyone in my primary school (we were aged 8-9) stopped watching. I was the only sad git who was still watching and actually cried when Yokozuna beat Tatanka on WWF Superstars. I honestly thought it was just a phoenomenon in my school though. Only one of my mates would covertely talk wrestling with me into 1994, but was scared anyone else would find out.

  3. While not wishing on a return to a single national promotion, TNA have well and truly ran out of steam. The fact that Spike are even casting cursory glances towards WWE is not good news at all. Where is there left for TNA to go?

I've backed them to the hilt but I can't see where the company's going now apart from shit creek without a paddle. It just feels like its fulfilling it's obligatory two hour slot from week to week and plodding along until it's certain demise. And I hate having to type that.

  4. I'm looking forward to watching this one, bit hope it isn't too much ROH. I've honestly never taken any interest in the promotion as it seems to be wrestling with all the fun stripped out of it, i.e the larger than life characters.

I recommend you buy/download the new Jimmy Hart shoot documentary looking back at his career in music. Worth it just to hear a 70 year old bloke perform an acoustic version of Sexy Boy and Rap is Crap.

  5. I gave up before the end as I had work today, but Piper's mic skills have deteriorated badly going on last night's showing. Great to see Jake the Snake back, that was genuinely a surprise. Probably the death knell on him having a surprise rumble spot though.

  6. Thanks guys - I didn't know about that match and it was fun to watch. I had assumed his last gig must have been some obscure Raw match just before the Montreal Screwjob.

He used to provide colour on a pretty regular basis when he led the corporation and Shane was hosting Sunday Night Heat.
