  1. Had Peter Barlow from Corrie in my pub yesterday. He had a pint of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord which he referred to as ‘a nice drop’. Had to get my bar man to ask him to observe the three no smoking signs he was contravening.

Seems like a nice guy, and not much different to his on screen character mannerism wise. Except he drinks and presumably knows less about licensing laws.

  2. Are there any of the Silvervision DVD’s worth anything or worth keeping? As a completist hoarder I have (I think) every one up until they closed, and one or two after. I’m slowly decluttering in an attempt to sort my life out. Is all the content on the network? Should I just haul the lot off to CEX for £3.25 and a few buttons?

  3. I don't suppose you can confirm that that title match aired with a 'Wrestling Challenge' banner in the arena (the one with purple in) just to prove that I can recall something correctly?

It was a Challenge/Prime Time taping, so yes. Probably could have saved a lot of babble here by just linking the match in the first place, I guess.

EDIT - fuck me, it didn't air on Prime Time as I falsely remembered. Challenge.

Bollocks, I nearly said it was on Challenge but I'd got enough wrong already. Cheers for the link.

  4. Thanks again. That's some memory you have. I think I'm thinking of the Monsoon commentary reference tbh. I had it in my head that they weren't called The Headshrinkers in that match either, so things are obviously a bit hazy up there. I don't suppose you can confirm that that title match aired with a 'Wrestling Challenge' banner in the arena (the one with purple in) just to prove that I can recall something correctly?

  5. Thanks. I remember having no reason at the time to doubt that the Money Inc match didn't take place, as it was reported as the main story in PWI weekly, but having read Animal's book and knowing how The Apter Mag's liked their kayfabe, I took Animals version as gospel.

Yeah, I think I was getting a bit mixed up with the Yokozuna appearance. I think The Headshrinkers wandered down to ringside for the distraction. This was before they'd made a full debut. I'm pretty sure Yoko had accompanied them at previous dark match appearances though.

  6. The Money Inc/Steiners never bothered me too much, Disasters/Money Inc/LOD the previous year even less so (Did I read that a LOD/Money Inc one actually turned out to be a phantom match?).

It definitely happened. It was a nice big clusterfuck. The Natural Disasters came down, Sherri distracted the ref, Typhoon whacked Hawk with a chair, DiBiase pinned him.

The matches in which the Disasters both won and lost the tag belts were both taped. The former was a Coliseum exclusive on the Grudges, Gripes & Grunts tape, the latter aired on Prime Time.

It is a shame that the match where Shawn won the title back with Diesel's help didn't ever see the light of day, but having said that, I doubt it was any better than the rematch they had on the 19th July Raw. That was brilliant.

How do you know it definitely happened? It was reported in PWI weekly at the time, and then Animal states in his book that it didn't. I've always wondered either way.

Didn't the Disasters losing the title involve a distraction from The Headshrinkers and a future Yokozuna?

  7. Wow, another thread that points out how far removed I am from the general opinions of this forum.

Good show. Loved how Randy talked through the Punk chants. At a lot of other guys, Orton himself until recently, would have flapped at that.

The Shield vs Wyatt's has been shoehorned?? It's been talked about for months. And there's likely some twist with the way Hunter asked them to leave it on Smackdown.

Two good six mans, with some good promos from either side.

Good main event, and the Kane / Bryan rivalry makes more sense than the Punk one. Anyone remember the first three guys to beat The Shield in a six man?

For someone who notices the difference between the WrestleMania main events and the general mid card, that show portrayed what great potential is available!

  8. The_Texas_Tornado_-_Kerry_Von_Erich_18.jpg

That was a neat little angle on Superstars, late 1990. Dustin Rhodes was being interviewed on The Brother Love Show. Dibiase, who had been feuding with Rhodes Jr & Sr, wandered out and started knocking Texas, stating that 'most Texans couldn't walk and chew bubble gum at the same time'. Dibiase and Virgil then double teamed Dustin prompting Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich, to make the save, stating he was 'a Texan too, and damn proud of it'.

A week later, The Million Dollar Man bought ring announcer Howard Finkel, and became the Special Guest Ring Announcer for an Intercontinental Title match between Champion Von Erich and former champion Mr Perfect. Dibiase hit our Kerry with the belt, costing him the title. Which I always thought was a bit daft, as he'd go on to feud with a title less Tornado.

If you think about the four in that pic and 23 years later, one's dead, one's devout, one's delivering and one's desperate.

  9. Erm, spoilers? I've just gone onto the WWE app to read the Raw preview. There's a section on the nominees of the Slammy's, there's no spaces just full on text of each award, presenter, nominees with (WINNER) in big letters after, presumably, each winner.

    Anywhere running a book...?

Edit, it's not for all the awards, just a dozen or so eg Faction of the Year 'The Shield' and Crowd of the Year 'Raw after Mania'. Pretty predictable. Still looks that horrendous it can't be intentional.

  10. They generally taped three shows at a time, the first of which would have the commentators live, for some reason, and the other two would be 'green screened'. You usually had some commentator interaction on the first one, such as Bossman cuffing Bobby Heenan to the railings, or Savage and Piper dashing off to the Funeral Parlour with chairs to save Hogan from a two on one beat down at the hands of Flair and 'Taker. Good times.

The other two weeks you'd get Gorilla Monsoon revelling in the crowd chanting 'Weasel' at The Brain whilst Battle Kat beat Reno Riggins.
