  1. Been taking a little look at some WWF results from the summer of 1993, purely because I've just downloaded a '93 mod for TEW and like to make things as accurate as possible. Anyway, two things have struck me: 1) Summerslam '93 appears to have been held on a Monday night. Was there any particular reason for this? 2) Was Lex Luger at any point scheduled to have beaten Yokozuna for the title at Summerslam? I understand that this was around the time Hogan left and that perhaps some plans had been changed, but from what I remember of the era and from what I can gather from some of the videos I've looked at from the time, Luger was being pushed to the moon that summer - slamming Yokozuna, the Lex Express etc, and then the Summerslam main event comes and ends in a crappy count-out and Luger doesn't get another title shot. Was there a reason for this? Or was it simply case of wanting to make Luger look like a credible threat and nothing more?

I'm sure someone will be able to give a better answer than me, but for the now...

    1) In the early 90's PPV's weren't always held on a Sunday night. We used to get them 24 hours later and, for example, SummerSlam 1990 was shown on a Tuesday, hence it being held on a Monday, Survivor Series '90 was shown on a Friday, Rumble '91 on a Sunday and Mania VII on a Monday.

    2) The story at the time was that Luger was going to win the title at Mania 10, but got drunk one night and told folks so, and was denied the title win.

  2. Not long after Raw first started, we just used to get the highlights on Mania with Todd Pettengill. There was definately a match between "The Model" Rick Martel and Mr. Perfect that ended during a Raw commercial break.

The match was in progress, and Raw cut to a commercial. On Mania we cut to Pettengill in the studio informing us that, yes Raw had gone to a commercial, and, when Raw returned... they cut to Perfect in the ring with some female models!

Obviously, they did this to emphasise that Raw was 'live and uncensored' and that 'anything could happen', which made sense.

What didn't make sense, to me anyway, was that they would show this on a highlights program...

And they were both an hour long. The should have just had Raw.

I think Mania was a week in review type program, not just a Raw highlights show, but this was the only way we could see what went down on Raw. I assume there were issues between the networks that showed Raw and Sky as to why we didn't get Raw in full at that time.

  4. When did WWF/WWE last do a "dusty finish"? The last one I can remember is Benoit vs. The Rock but that was 10 years ago, I'm sure they must have done plenty since?

I'm not 100% on this, but didn't they do one with RVD and the Undisputed Title on Raw in 2002? Think it was over The Undertaker.

Did they not do it last year with Undertaker and C.M.Punk at Survivor Series?

Or am I getting my insider terms mixed up?

  5. This may or may not be a stupid question, but my daughter asked me at tonight's Raw and I couldn't answer.

How many rings do WWE have?

I know noone will be able to answer '7' or '23' but do they have a couple, or about 20 or about 200?

  6. 6. Why was it decided to give Brutii the 1st? Pinfall win over Mr Perfect?

I've read that before he got his face fucked in the accident, Beefcake was due to get an IC run in 1990, winning the gold at Summerslam 90. With Perfect set to win the belt weeks after Mania, this would make for a nice reason to feud. Obviously it didn't happen in the end, and Kerry Von Erich cokewalked his way through the push instead.

I started watching WWE around this time, and I remember the Beefcake vs Perfect IC title match being announced on the SummerSlam report, before Beefcake's accident. I didn't catch every episode at the time, but it was changed at some point to a single graphic of Perfect just stating that he will defend his title. Von Erich came down and challenged Perfect the week prior to SummerSlam, and the rest is history.

  7. I came on to ask exactly the same question, this is the first PPV I've ordered on my new HD box too.

I ordered it and pressed the button for it to be recorded. It is now showing up in my "Planner" saying it will be recorded and "This programme will be deleted at 11:59pm Wed 17"

If it is going to be deleted in 3 days time, doesn't that mean I can watch it anytime until then?

It's not going to be deleted until two weeks on Wednesday, surely!?

And yes, you can watch it any time in this period.

(Thanks for the link ButchReedMark, BTW, 'tis appreciated!)

  8. I know Wrestlemania VIII was live as well. It was on about 10 or 11pm, because they started PPV's earlier in the day at that point, or some other reason, and NO HOLDS FUCKING BARRED was on before it.

WrestleMania VIII was definately the first one shown live, up until then they went out the day after. And then for some reason they showed SummerSlam 1992, from London, two days later. Man, that was hard work not finding the results even in pre internet days. I managed up to the start of the main event, and my sisters mate insisted on telling me that "Bulldog wins". Cow.

    I know 6 & 7 aired over here, but before that I don't know.

  9. I don't remember a match off the top of my head, but they probably had one somewhere along the line.

I don't remember a one on one match, although you have to imagine there was a blow off at some point due to the amount of time they invested in that feud. However, there was a pretty cool tag match released on video that had Warrior and Taker vs Shango and Berzerker.

Yeah, that one was on the second Ultimate Warrior video.

The one on one match referred to above took place on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event.
