  1. Great stuff and interesting little bits here and there (Steve Blackman, legends battle royal etc). I do skim a few sections but at least you don't just reel off a list of matches, you add enough background to make it worth delving into. Putting names in bold really helps too - so as long as you keep that up, you can make it as long as you like. Just remember real life, though... šŸ˜›

  2. Agree with all of the above! Keith Lee had the perfect debut. I was grinning from ear to ear and laughing joyfully at some of his feats. Private Party were perfect in that spot too. The fans also helped make it feel like a huge deal.

Also laughing my arse off at the opening segment, just brilliant fun, and the finish of the main event was top class.

Wanna mention Serena Deeb too, kicking off a fun little streak, I wonder who's gonna step up down the line!

  3. The two men's title matches were decent enough, but yeah the men's rumble was SO boring. And lazy, too. The only real build I saw to the match was Sami Zayn v Johnny Knoxville, and it was thrown away with them both entering next to each other and getting their bit out of the way immediately. Hometown boy Orton did nothing, a singer outsmarted at least two of the most experienced rumble competitors ever, Big E and Owens were made to look like nothing, and yep as said above the result was a total eye-roller.

Maybe the worst thing, though, was the camera work. Again. Missed eliminations and spots, and focusing on anything but the entrance way when another competitor made their way out. Weird.

The only thing that really bugged me about the show this week was that Orange Cassidy got kicked in the balls AGAIN. I swear that's been about 54 times. Why is he being made to be such a moron??

    Make that 55 times! FFS.

Really fun main event I think. Great to see Moxley back. As for the rest of it - for the first time with Dynamite I didn't watch the whole thing at once, I got to the Archer/Kazarian match and decided to leave the rest of it for a few hours later in the day. Not a good sign I guess. Just feels like there's something missing sometimes but I'm not sure exactly what that is. It certainly isn't the AHFO(!!) Yay.

  5. I watched that Fenix table spot however many times they showed it with the replays and I somehow never once noticed the injury, thank god. That sort of stuff makes me queasy.

Totally agree with comments already made here about Ruby, Jade, Jericho, and the suggestions for Punk/Wardlow next week.

I punched the air with joy when Hangman got the pin on Danielson. But the latter, fucking hell, I cannot WAIT to see what he does next!

  6. I kept meaning to bring this up but wanted to wait to see if he showed first. Kyle O'Reilly making his debut to help Adam Cole just makes no sense to me. Everyone was going on about him coming in to team up with Cole and/or Fish, and sure they could show a little tension to come to iron things out, but they had a months-long blood feud the last time we saw them on TV together. O'Reilly felt like he had to drive Cole out of NXT to move forward, and the first chance he gets, he ups and leaves go to back into the same position in another company.

You can add on the level of "Well, everyone who's watching knows they're mates in real life," but then why should I get invested watching ANY months-long blood feud? We last saw them both in another company, fine, but it just feels totally off to me. I've started to enjoy Cole in shorter matches in AEW, and even Fish as his back-up, but I'm not sure if I wanna see another couple of years of Undisputed Era trios matches before yet another big split. We'll see! I know, I'm overthinking it...

Anyway, I really liked the main event. They got plenty time, any weaknesses anyone had were kept at bay, there were some scary moments (as usual with Allin, but jeez that MJF toss out the ring, eek!) and a fun ending. The opener was decent, but Orange Cassidy makes so many stupid decisions for a babyface, in and out of the ring, just to wind up his opponents but more often than not he gets battered for it.

Looking forward to Hangman/Danielson 2, I'm gonna go with a Hangman victory around the 38-minute mark. What about you?

  7. I really liked Hangman v Danielson. Like some others I've read, I really did think heading towards the time limit that one of them could still pull it off. The longer it went, the more I realised (duh) that Hangman wasn't going to be tapping out, so it was down to him to power out a win. And that spot 50 minutes in when he landed on his feet after Danielson attempted a top-rope suplerplex, and smashed him with a clothesline, that was when I thought YES, yes by god Hangman can still win this! I was rooting for him more and more as the end neared. A draw seemed obvious at this point but I know that AEW knows that it's obvious, so I still had hope.

But also, at the back of my mind, I don't think it was the right time for Danielson to lose either. I was sad when the 60 minutes was up but it was a fun long ride for me. The champ is the man.

  8. What's Brandi's beef with Andrade? She didn't want to set Malakai Black on fire, and he's been much more of a nightmare to her friends and family. Arn Anderson fell over again though, so that was something.

Wardlow has barely been on Dynamite and yet he was one was of the most over, looking forward to see what happens with this diamond ring battle royale coming up and if he plays a part, like was suggested even last time around.

And I'm anticipating great things with Danielson and John Silver! Even if the latter just gets his head kicked in, it's gonna be emotional either way.

  9. The very last line of the show was JR saying something along the lines of "I'll see you all again soon" which sounded like he's going away, but then maybe it was another slip. But other than one "Daniel Bryan" I didn't really catch any from him on this show, I tend to zone out when he's speaking anyway.

As said by LaGoosh, it felt so fresh having a long promo to kick off the show! And if you're gonna do one, you're not gonna get much of a better pairing. My stream cut off when Punk said "the only way you're going to be number one around here is if Tony...." and I assumed he was going to say "goes mad in the head and trades title shots for golden eggs", so I was disappointed to find it was just a reference to Triple H!

Not great having so much time for QT Marshall and Billy Gunn BUT the latter had a quick match and, as mentioned here previously, I'm totally fine with the Gunn Club / Sting & Darby thing for a short and sweet feud. No matter how far down the pecking order someone is, they quite easily make teams like the Gunns feel like some sort of threat, and the amazing win record over dozens of jobbers helps a little, heh.

Dante Martin seemingly signing for Team Taz was genuinely a shocking twist! I feel like he's up to something, although it's hard to figure out what since he's never really said anything, or seems like the type to have something up his sleeve.

Really enjoyed the main event, especially Arn and Tully (and, erm, Jose) facing off, but yeah the Cody stuff is not sitting well with me. At least they made it fairly clear the loss was his fault with the superkick to Pac. Pac was bloody great in this match. I hope he smacks Cody around with his own belt someday soon.

My prevailing thought reading the results was how bored I am of the reporters insisting that itā€™s the ā€œfamiliarā€ sound of a wrestlers theme playing them to the ring. Wellā€¦ yeah. If you watch the show, the wrestlersā€™ themes are going to be familiar to you.

The thing that always stands out to me when I'm reading results of Raw or whatever is that someone always "stands tall" at the end of a segment. Whoever writes these things has no other way to describe someone getting the upper hand, or just describing what is happening in general. It's always "stands tall".Ā

  11. There was 30 seconds left of the show and I was like "oh right, I'm not actually gonna get all teary", and then Hangman swatted away the beer for a big hug with his friends instead, and that was me gone. That's how you finish a PPV.

I skipped most of Baker/Conti and the Inner Circle match, I was just too exhausted to sit through them after everything else going on. Wasn't too keen on the Cody/Pac tag match just because the whole booing Cody thing is pretty distracting from whatever they're trying to do, but everything else was great.

The first two matches may even get overshadowed because of everything else that came after, just so much goodness everywhere. And blimey, that Luchasaurus shooting star press off the stage! Amazeballs.

  12. Loving all the takes on the segment in this thread. Isn't it just awesome that we can all have these differing thoughts on a fairly straightforward segment that we knew was coming? And when was the last time something on WWE TV was so intriguing (that didn't involve Charlotte ignoring the script)?

I can totally see where the "I hated it" opinion above came from, it was a little shooty at first, the back-and-forth was not as 'smooth' as seen elsewhere, and I feel sometimes like Kingston is trying too hard. But that's where the layers are for me - is Kingston the real person trying too hard with the act, or is the character trying too hard because of the insecurities? I'm not sure. I was behind Punk at first, letting Kingston just go on with his "woe is me" stuff, but then Punk said a couple of things I thought were harsh and I flipped right back behind Eddie. Then the pull-apart was the same old but the last few seconds reeled me back in.

Add in Kingston's struggles with the top, top stars, and Punk coming through a run of tough bouts, I'm super excited for this one. I want Eddie to win, I think, but I also don't think Punk should be losing to him. What a pickle!!

  13. This is more about Vince than HHH, but Vinnie Mac will never be replaced. By the time he goes, they will have a complete database template thingy that compiles how he *would* have booked the shows, even years into the future - they can just pop it into a computer, or some Vince hologram monstrosity, and it'll make just as much sense as it does now.

  14. I am a huge Ghostbusters geek so loved seeing Stay Puft out there, and when it dawned on me who it was, my eyes lit up in joy. Brilliant stuff.

Also would like to mention that Hikaru Shida v Serena Deeb was great, especially the ending stretch. And Mox is just a scary, scary man right now, I'm not sure which of the possible routes with him we'll end up at.Ā

  15. As probably expected, Danielson v Suzuki was a bunch of fun! I've only seen Suzuki in AEW and wasn't too fussed about his matches thus far, but this one was given time to breathe. I haven't watched too many old-school Japanese matches either, but just enough to "get" the tone of this one, and of course the audience being into everything really helped too. Good stuff!
