little more on this weekend's Bellator, it should be worth a watch Chunk...
Â
Will Brooks is probably the most underrated Lightweight in the sport...two wins over Michael Chandler prove that, yet he doesn't get anything like the same amount of kudos as Chandler. Dave Jansen is getting his shot off the back of holding a tournament win which Bellator are honouring, he's 7-0 in Bellator but he's been pretty inactive. I expect Brooks to impose his will on him and pick up the win though, Brooks is a big ass lightweight.
Â
Joe Schilling's record isn't stellar, but he's popular due to his fighting style basically. He was recognised as the top full Muay Thai rules fighter in the US but transitioned to straight kickboxing and MMA for the money's, Bellator sure aint giving him easy fights to break into the sport though, stylistically good but high level opponents.
Â
Held/Tiger Sarnavskiy is a classic striker vs. grappler fight. Marcin Held is one of the most exciting submission fighters in the game, he's one of those guys who wants it on the floor but attacks always, outstanding heel hooks and lots of fun to watch. Sannavisky is all aggression so this fight pretty much can't not be anything other than exciting.
Â
Alexander Volkov is the former Bellator Heavyweight champ, not the most imposing looking heavyweight but he's tall, lean and is handy as fuck on the feet. Tony Johnson i've seen fight a few times, he's mixed in some decent company, just a big fucking lump who'll likely want to put Volkov on his back and keep him there.
Â
Nice one. I'm as into this show as I am the UFC Poland show now.
Â
Cool features on Schilling:
Â
Â
and Brooks:
Â
Â
Edit: No idea why youtube videos don't embed for me ...
Â
Also found this GIF of Schilling knocking out Manhoef in his last Bellator fight:

Dude's got power!

I give a shit chunk!
Â
Quality card, good prelims too. Awad/Sinclair, Beltran/Rogers are guaranteed fireworks.
Â
Â
Is this one of the Bellator "tent pole" events? How can you tell if it's a smaller show or a big show?
Â
With UFC it's easy: PPV = big, Fox = medium, Fight Pass = small.

Another weekend, another Bellator show that nobody seems to give a shit about.
Â
Â
Bellator 136
Â
Lightweight Title: Will Brooks© vs. Dave Jansen
Joe Schilling vs. Rafael Carvalho
Marcin Held vs. Alexander Sarnavskiy
Alexander Volkov vs. Tony JohnsonÂ
Prelims
Â
FabrÃcio Guerreiro vs. John Teixeira
Saad Awad vs. Rob Sinclair
Joey Beltran vs. Brian Rogers
Jay Bogan vs. Justin GovernaleÂ
I like these shows because I basically don't know any of the fighters. I've only been following the UFC for a few years but I'm already at the point where I know the recent history of 90% of the fighters on a card. Will Brooks might as well be the random bloke that hot desks next to me at work, for all I know. Every card is like a film with a new cast to me. Wikipedia tells me Brooks is 16-1 as a pro with an avenged win for his loss and Jansen is 20-2 on a 7 fight win streak. Sounds like a fight with a lot of potential to me!
Â
What's the deal with Joe Schilling? I know him as the corner man of Nick Diaz. His MMA (and to a lesser degree even his kick boxing) record doesn't look too special but his is a name that stands out for some reason. Carvalho on the other hand is on a 10 fight streak. Looks one-sided to me.

I guess the question to ask is should a scream of pain count as a verbal submission. I don’t think it should and I think it’s quite ridiculous that screaming in pain, often an involuntary act, counts as wilfully giving up. I think you should be able to scream in pain as much as you want to and that submitting should be kept to physically tapping out or verbally saying that you tap.
Of course it should! You've clearly never been put in a situation where you can't use your hands to tap. Sometimes a scream of pain is all that you can muster, not "excuse me kind sir, I tap out"
Â
Â
That's slightly different to what happened in the Warren fight though. Not sure if you saw it, but in that fight Warren could easily have tapped he just decided not to. The inference being that he would rather have his leg broken than tap out. Either way he loses the fight, but when the ref stops he it gets saved from the injury.

Â
Yeah, I get what you mean but I'm glad the fight was stopped when it was. Warren looked clearly beat to me and the ref effectively saved him from himself. I want to see who the better fighter is, not somewhere suffer serious injury. If you're in a submission hold that you can't get out of, you're no less a loser for refusing to tap out. Same goes for when you see fighters allow themselves to go unconcious rather than submit, it just doesn't make sense to me. Seeing someone needlessly made uncious is bad enough, with a leg or arm submission it would be even worse to watch.
Â
Also, as was mentioned on the commentary, if the fighters have been primed beforehand that an uncontrolled scream whilst in a submission hold counts as a verbal tap, then there's no real arguement. Thems the rules.
Â
I'm with David about Warren though. Got to be one of the most annoying people in MMA. Somebody needs to tell him that Mike Tyson beat him to the nickname "baddest man on the planet". He just comes over so forced and fake, he's trying way too hard.
Â
I enjoyed this card though. LC Davis / Tokoro is well worth a watch ... just stop before the interviews at the end (major teeth damage!)

Just for info: the channel launches on 15th April.

Bellator 135 is this Friday.
Â
Â
Here's the card:
Â
(Bantamweight Title Fight) Joe Warren© vs. Marcos GalvaoL.C. Davis vs. Hideo TokoroFrancis Carmont vs. Guilherme Viana   ÂDakota Cochrane vs. Ryan Couture   ÂÂPrelimsÂAlejandro Villalobos vs. Emmanuel Sanchez   ÂRashad Coulter vs. Jeremiah O'Neal   ÂSean Holden vs. Tim Roman   ÂNeal Ewing vs. Logan Nail   ÂStephen Banaszak vs. Brad Mitchell   ÂKlayton Mai vs. Xavier Siller   ÂJ.P. Cole vs. Geo PacurariuÂI've enjoyed the last two Bellator shows enough that I'm up for all their future cards now, especially when there's no UFC on the same weekend. Who should I be looking out for on this card / what's the quality of this card looking like? I know Ryan Couture as the son of Randy and I recognise Carmont from his time in the UFC, but that's about it!ÂAlso, are the Bellator marketing guys short on poster ideas: -
How good is Liam McGeary? Really, I mean. DC was talking him up on the MMA Hour this week and I'm now really bought into the idea of him being an undefeated killer.
Â
Looking forward to this card.
-
Enjoyed both the Karakhanyan \ Jenkins and Strauss \ Pitbull fights. Filled the UFC void nicely.
-
Is bellator on channel 5 anytime this weekend?cant seem to find it on the planner anywhere. Was the ppv just a one deal show?
Â
I couldn't find it either. Was planning on looking for a torrent.
-
cause i care about you guys, i've linked a few pieces of Bellator promotional stuff they've released this week with regards to the show tomorrow night. It's weird how two little 5-7 minute pieces on each fighter can make a fight mean so much more to the spectator.
Â
Nice one. I'm in on this show now. Couldn't agree more, 15 minutes and I'm 100% more interested in that fight. Watched the Georgi video then 2 minutes of the Bubba one and I immediately want to see Bubba get knocked out. Then you see him busting his arse in the gym and he wins you over.
-
Hope that helps a little, i think it'll be well worth you tuning in for. The fact that the UFC isn't till Sunday means this could be ideal Saturday evening viewing if you can get hold of a copy (that's my plan).
Â
Cool, thanks. Exactly that. Will try to catch.

Nothing posted about the Bellator show this weekend yet?

Never watched Bellator before and know nothing about anyone on the card. Tempted to give it a try this weekend because the UFC show isn't on until the early hours of Sunday. Will I be wasting my time?
-
Spoiler if you haven't seen Metamois 5 yet:
Â
Â
Didn't watch it but the results don't suggest I missed much. Never watched straight up BJJ before, but it's hard to be enticed into something where 5 of the 6 fights ended as 20 minute draws!
Â

Just noticed that channel 5* are showing the bellator tito v bonnar event on sunday night 9pm
Â
Just out of interest, do Channel 5* show every Bellator show? Do they show it in full or just clipped highlights?
Â
You'd think information like that would be easy to find bellator.com

Stupid question: is there a way to view "content I follow" through the mobile version of the forum?

If we are allowed Americans, I nominate Styles/Storm at FOH.

This'll reveal my MMA newb status, but kicks to a downed opponent like that are pretty shocking to watch. Glad that shit doesn't happen anymore.
