  1. Anyone see Roxanne Modafferi weigh in for Invicta 16 with her whole team dressed as characters from Mortal Kombat?

Comes over pretty shit to be honest, but fair play for trying.

    Skip to 8:30:

I love the way Jessamyn Duke is then introduced as a UFC veteran. :p Her record in the UFC after TUF was 0-3. :p

On an related note. How shit is Fight Pass sometimes. I go on there to look for the weigh ins, get annoyed that I can't find them, give up and then find them on Youtube within 20 seconds. And which channel has uploaded them on Youtube? Yep, the UFC! Mental.

  2.

I've never been the biggest Joe Warren fan, he like usual talked a lot, but I give him full respect for going out on his shield and not tapping to the choke.

    I'll bite.

Always sensible for a man with 2 kids to needlessly risk his health by refusing to admit when he's beaten. #realMan

When you put yourself out there, talk lots of smack towards the guy your fighting, tell everyone how good you are and to top it off, call yourself the "Baddest man on the planet" You must show something if things do not go your way. It's a dangerous sport, the health is always at risk,  it comes with the territory.

You seem to be confusing the world of fight hype with the world of reality.

He fought to the end, couldn't get out of it and went to sleep, woke up few seconds later and was fine. How's that realMan # trending?

He fought to the end, was beaten ... and then decided to needlessly take a risk and be rendered unconscious.

As for the hash tag ... the view that tapping out when you know you're beaten makes you less of a man seems to live and die with you. At least as far as this forum goes.

  4. Weird decision to take a daughter that young to your fight ...

Also: we complain about the way UFC uniforms now all look the same. Those two look like they're wearing identical shorts!

  5. Is it just me or does Joe Warren really get on your tits?

Haven't caught up with the prelims from last week yet. Are they worth bothering with? I find the quality drops RIGHT off with Bellator when it comes to the prelims.

  6. I'm a newbie to MMA (3 years or so), so I haven't actually seen much of the old stuff yet. I'm currently watching through old UFC events from UFC 1 onwards through Fight Pass. Currently on UFC 8.

So I've got this unique view on MMA that's solely based on UFC 1 to 8 and anything from UFC 156 onwards.

Some of my opinions might therefore be humorous to those with a more complete knowledge of the UFC ...

For example: the award for most frustrating fighter of all time must clearly go to Dan Severn! An infuriating mix of great wrestling and ability to take a man down, coupled with a complete inability to land anything of any value once on the ground. Why, after the debut of Tank Abbott, did it not occur to him that gloves might be a good idea!?

  7.

Bellator was great...apart from the early matches which bored me to tears.

Coker needs to man up and not give into the sport side of MMA and continue to serve up the wackiness. No point being TNA to WWE, be something different. Hopefully the ratings will see him and Spike continue down this righteous path.

UFC probably shitting their pants that people will see it for what it is - pro wrestling at the heart of MMA and people will burn out on it quick. Fuck contender number 3 vs. chin beard 6 for the gnat weight title.

I want to see it burn. DO IT BELLATOR, KILL THE BUSINESS!

I want to see the return of this warrior.

    Dog the Bounty Hunter?

Yeah, I know ... they do look similar though!

  8. Nice little summary of Bellator in 2015:

Anyone heard anything more about the Bellator event in England? Liam McGeary / Phil Davis doesn't have a date yet. Surely it makes sense to do that as a main event in London.

  9. He didn't get knocked out, the fight went the distance. He did get rocked a few times during the fight though, it was probably the right thing to do in not allowing him to fight though. Vassell is the one asking the question.

Bellator sneak another show in on us tomorrow night...

    L.C. Davis vs. Joe Warren

    Joey Beltran vs. Kendall Grove

    Henry Corrales vs. Emmanuel Sanchez

    Vinicius Queiroz vs. Ewerton Teixeira

That's how the main card stacks up, liking it.

Davis/Warren will probably be a case of who can grind it out, i fancy Davis to win he's on abit of a roll and is coming off a classic fight with Hideo Tokoro. If it's the usual case of two wrestlers ending up standing though i'll have Davis vio KO.

Ewerton Teixeira is the latest big name kickboxer to transition over to MMA, they ain't given him a scrub in Spartan either. He's 3-0 in MMA but his last fight was over 2 years ago.

My bad. Remembered it as him getting knocked out for some reason. I agree though, definitely the right thing to do.

Would love to see Warren get beat by Davis. Is there a more annoying man in MMA than Joe "I hope nobody realizes I robbed my nickname from Mike Tyson" Warren?

  10. yeh that was quality  Davis won me over that night, not just in his performances but in his likability post-fights, he showed some of the personality that had people jumping on his bandwagon back in the day.

Related...Linton Vassell is making claims that he offered to take the final fight (which was the right protocol if the semi-winner couldn't make it into the final) but was told that he was medically suspended. The medical suspensions have since come out and Vassell isn't one of them.

I don't think much will come of it, it's probably best it didn't happen either because Vassell got rocked a few times during the Mo fight, he likely would have got smashed against a fresh Davis.

Could that be too different rounds of suspensions though? One immediate one on the night because he got knocked out and then a follow up one after the dust has settled? Strikes me that it would be very irresponsible to clear someone to fight after they just got knocked out.

  11. Am I missing something with the ring announcer that used to do Pride shows? I understand them using her to make it feel more like a Pride show and a genuine alternative to the UFC, but she was the shits.

  12. I see WSOF has just stripped Palhares of the WW title and suspended him indefinitely. That guy is a piece of work who should be banned from the sport for life. He's had all the chances that he he deserves!

Is there an echo in here?

:p Joking aside, yeah, he deserves all he gets.

  13. Why would anybody accept a fight with him? You'd have to be out of your mind to go into a fight with someone you know isn't going to fight by the same rules as you - you might as well tie a hand behind your back.

  14. Did anyone see last week's Bellator?

Yep. Your summary pretty much does the job. The illegal knee was crazy, did he just forget the rules or something? It wasn't close to being legal.

  15. Can you bet on Shamrock failing a piss test? Lashley's on the undercard of this too right?

Yep. Card looks really good to me:

Heavyweight Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock
Featherweight Patrício Freire © vs. Daniel Weichel
    Heavyweight Bobby Lashley vs.Dan Charles
    Featherweight Daniel Straus vs.Henry Corrales
    Lightweight Michael Chandler vs.Derek Campos

Even with my limited experience of watching Bellator, I know that: Chandler is a former champ, Strauss is a former champ and is coming off a title fight, Lashley holds some interest for the fact he was in WWE and the co-main is a title fight. Everything holds some interest.
  16. For those interested, last nights BAMMA, as well as last weekends Glory show are available on 5's catchup player.

...Friday nights Premier Boxing Champions show (Erislandy Lara vs. Delvin Rodriguez), which must have aired on Spike is on there too, handy!

Worth checking the BAMMA show out?

  17. On a serious note, I'm glad they're banned as well. I would like to see knees to grounded opponents brought back though. That would make things interesting and would also put that retarded 'I've put my pinky finger on the mat so you can't knee my face' shit to bed. I hate that one hand down loophole. The 'bitch hand', King Mo calls it.

Yeah that loophole always comes over as a bit ridiculous when it's exploited. I'm OK with the concept of banning knees to a downed opponent though. It makes sense to me that it's possible to get a lot more power behind a knee to the face or head when an opponent is down - you can take a run up, your target is only 3 feet off the ground not 6 and you don't lose any power in upward momentum, it's all forward. Following up a knock down with a running knee to the face from half way across the cage sounds like it would most often be unnecessarily dangerous - a few follow up (much lighter!) punches would more often than not lead to the same ref stoppage.

The rule change I'd like to see is foot stomps. They seem like a hangover from days gone by rather than something that has been given a lot of thought and then the green light. They hardly ever seem to have any real impact, they feel like a shitty, skill-less tactic and who really wants to see a fight stopped because someone gets their big toe broken? Imagine Aldo drop his title half way through round one due to a broken toe from a foot stomp.
