Iāve always liked AEW. I was living in the States for the first All In and some of the subsequent shows and got to watch them live at a reasonable hour. I was always a fan.
But, I think, now is the first time I truly, properly āgetā AEW.
All the moans about it lacking cohesion, sense or complaining about them occasionally missing the mark or doubling up on spots? It completely misses the point.
AEW is a joyful, triumphant celebration of professional wrestling. Itās people just like us - in the main - getting to live out their dreams, and using their platform to celebrate and pay tribute to the things that have given them such joy. So where you may wear a Terry Funk t-shirt, Mox wields a branding iron. Where you may have a HBK screensaver, Adam Cole tunes up a superkick.
Itās fuckingā¦ glorious. We should root for each and every one of them, including Tony, because theyāre crafting a love letter to the thing that weāve all been besotted by for decades.
And then there was Punk. Iāll start my quick whip through of the show here. Iām a Punk fan. He has great matches, delivers big moments and can speak arses into seats. But, he doesnāt belong here. Where their tributes are loving, his are arch. Where they use their platform to bring us āall inā to celebrate something, he excludes and gatekeeps.Ā
ĀAEW allowing wrestlers to follow their inner muse isnāt the weakness of a billionaire coke fiend, itās the wide net that allows them to find so many diamonds.
So, Punkās match was great. Fun at times. It had a good finish and was a great start to the show. But his toxic melodrama doesnāt belong here. Heās a man with sharp elbows in a world of warm hugs. I hate to say it, but Iād rather he wasnāt around.
The six man was good, if a little scruffy at times. Ibushi still doesnāt seem at the races. I loved seeing Hangman, his energy crackles when heās in the ring.Ā
ĀThe FTR/Bucks match was superb. The best match Iāve ever been present for, and I punched the air for the finish. Regardless of where you sit on the divide of Elite/CMFTR; these gentlemen worked well together, professionally and The Bucks did a clean job. Wrestling at its absolute finest.
Mox has an insane presence and charisma from up close. A genuine superstar aura. The match was - obviously - a car crash, but a fun one. The genuine definition of people āgiving everythingā for what they love.
Iām not a Saraya fan, but that moment was special.
The Coffin match was such fun. Iām sorry to go back to it, but if a genuine legend and megastar like Sting can get along with this company, anyone should be able to. The criteria for fitting in with AEW seems to be simply ālove what you do and do what you love.ā
Seeing a 64 year old man throwing himself about with a reckless abandon, having the time of his life, was beautiful. Oh, the table didnāt break? ONE MORE TIME.
Jericho/Ospreay was good and I enjoyed seeing Ospreay get his moment. In my 20ās I trained a bit - a very little bit - at Lucha Britannia, and Ospreay was there then. He was so effortlessly athletic and graceful, and by all accounts hard working, so even if I donāt always enjoy his stuff, I was happy to see such a local lad get the moment in the sun.
Brody King has big star presence. Malakai Black has less presence than I assumed he would. Fun match to keep the crowd warm going into the main event. @SupremoĀ - one for you - isnāt Billy Gunn massive in person??
Main event. What can you say? MJF is the guy and, Iām amazed to say, Adam Cole isnāt too far behind. Theyāve BOTH been elevated by this story. Itās given them a perfect platform to show their range of abilities. They had the crowd in the palm of their hands. Incredible.
I love wrestling.
I love AEW.
Perfect post. My thoughts exactly.Ā

Oh FFS. What a waste of Ospreay. And, to be honest, what a waste of Jericho too! Guess that means Ospreay / Omega III is being saved for Wrestle Kingdom then.

When WCW were trouncing WWF pre-1998, you wouldn't know it in the UK as shop shelves were filled to the brim with WWF merch, whereas WCW merch was squeezed in at the end. It's totally anecdotal of course, but I had more WWF merch than WCW merch as a kid growing up in the 90's (be it magazines, shirts, or toys), and when I started bagging pocket money I bought more WWF merch than WCW merch because it was more widely available in shops, and when it came to circling the Argos and Index catalogues for Christmas I would mainly slap that pen around the WWF lines because they were presented better than WCW. WWF effectively cornered the market here and presented themselves as the number fucking one, and you believed it. Look at them now, the bastards.
I'm not disagreeing with you and I know exactly what you mean. The remarkable thing is that 90% of WWE merch (t-shirt wise) was utter shit. Even as a young teen in an environment where WWF had some coolness about it, I wouldn't have been caught dead in practically any of the shirts they put out. AEW to their credit do actually have some stuff that I would wear.

What a show. MJF is the best.
He's made Adam Cole more interesting than he's ever been, managed to get a body slam, headlock takeover and double clothesline insanely over. His comedy bit is great fun for as long as it lasts ... the conclusion of it being insane heel heat when he turns on Cole, or the option to work as a genuine face.

Ospreay is as different from the BCC ideal as anyone is possible as being.Ā
It should be someone who is either a Regal guy or someone who has bled with them
Ideal world it's Samoa Joe but he's on Punk Island right now so probably not happening
The angle going into Forbidden Door was that Ospreay was making himself an evil little shit to beat Omega. A more viscous, violent version of himself. He did this and got the win. His hidden blade finish is as nasty as a finisher comes. I think he's a great fit. The only issue for me being that he's coming off a win. There's no real reason for him to bother with Omega again now, it's Omega that's interested in him for the rubber match. They'd needĀ to negotiate that hurdle in my opinion to make the storyline work.
-
I'm now going to be absolutely gutted if the fifth BCC member isn't Ospreay. His history with Omega makes that a perfect fit. Maybe it's blind optimism but the Jericho thing feels like it's being worked as a decoy to me.Ā

Preston Vance bleeding buckets for nothing.
Catching up after Double or Nothing. I got the feeling that was hard way ... when Hook hit him with the chain, the end of it seemed to whip round and cut Vance open. I also thought Vance came back with a few stiffer than normal shots (especially the clothesline) after being cut open.

Maybe this says as much about me as it does him ... but that is a very unusual way to pose with a woman for a photo.Ā

This was all put in motion when they were on better terms, the last 24 hours has clearly changed that. Yes, Collision was all on the back of Punk, but they have now had to change advertising etc in a short space of time, remove Punk from the marketing at launch, which clearly would have been better and had more eyes on it with Punk on there. So yes, it was worth it, when Punk was the main star, but at present he isn't. Toys being thrown out ever 6 months isn't worth anything. If you can't put long term plans in because of fragile ego's, then it isn't worth it.Ā
Isn't Collision being based on Punk just pure speculation!? Where's the marketing they had to change last minute to remove him? Has anyone actually seen it?

Is it verifiable? Not saying there is anything wrong with doing it but why is everyone taking it at face value when wrestling promoters are known for having a distant relationship with box office numbers.Ā
ĀItās promotion 101. You arenāt going to say āPlenty of tickets still availableā when you can say āOnly a few tickets left, theyāre selling out fast so donāt miss outā
Have a day off and try being positive for once.Ā

No worries mate. Glad you were able to get something
How did you find that different link, out of interest? I left my original queue window open and it eventually timed out when the presale window opened. If it wasn't for your link I wouldn't have got tickets.

ĀIf youāre on mobile that link just got me through to where you put your code in. Thereās a bunch of Platinum options plus ones with Hotel Packages and Travel packages with an āUnlockā tab next to it, thatās where you put your code in
This worked straight away. Thanks! I joined the queue and it told me I only had 130 people in front of me. This was seconds after 09:00. Then it just hung on that screen forever without doing anything. I try your link and it lets me straight in! What's the point in the queueing system then!?
-
Just hanging on the screen the other side of the queue for me. Endless loading logo spin next to 'Happening Now'.
-
This event has 6 different pre-sales. 6!
At risk of sounding like an old man ... when did ticket sales become such a circus!?
-
If anybody else has a code they don't need, I'd appreciate it.Ā
-
I mean the Ticketmaster one rather than FITE. I've emailed Ticketmaster support but not holding out much hope for them to get back to me in time.
-
Thanks, yeah. Gave that a try but nothing. What was the address the email came from?
-
Have people had a code just through signing up on the ticket website? Is it just AEW shop customers / Fite subscribers that have had a code? Still nothing in my inbox.Ā

Looks a bit like Wardlow's skinny younger brother.

You hear him crash into a light pole and when you see him bleeding it was pretty obvious it wasnāt a blade job.
Wouldn't say it was obvious at all. He went to the ground face down and seemed to quickly motion towards his head whilst the camera moved off him. I actually thought at that time what a stupid blade given how short a period of time he was then actually on screen bleeding. Was surprised we didn't then see him again in a back stage segment later in the show with blood all over him. It all makes sense now though, given it was a legit accident.

Where I smell nonsense in that claim was Punk saying he wouldnāt work hurt, he then did work so that tells me he was cleared and is embellishing a story to paint Khan etc in a bad light.Ā
Exactly. Has this been substantiated in any way, or are we just taking Punk's word as gospel?

see the Conor McGregor in a tree house clip.
This was a new one on me, so I just searched it up. It's a 10 second clip of somebody that sort of looks a bit like Mcgregor, outside in what looks like a tree house, from 5 years ago?
I'm no Mcgregor fanboy, but I wouldn't cite that as an example of Mcgregor going of the rails!

Am I missing something with Emi Sakura (last week's Rampage, I'm a week behind)? I get that she's a big name etc etc but she just seemed to refuse to sell for Hayter. Made the match really disjointed and the finish unrealistic.Ā

Blimey, is it not great to see Mark with a smile on his face!?

Tony Khan comes over as such a humble, great bloke in the post show scrum. All the talent seem to genuinely love working with him and his obvious love for pro wrestling is really infectious. It's easy to hate on him (and obviously some vocal UKFFers love to do exactly that), but IMO (and after a show like All In) it's hard to argue that pro wrestling isn't better for having him:
