  1. Strangely just watched him put Billy Graham out of commission in '87 last night.

RIP Butch - he really should've been a bigger star. Great look, great worker. So many missed opportunities. There's the cool wrestlers thread at the moment, I'd put Butch in there. Loved the blonde hairdo, the cocky swagger and rulebreaking and when he was in the WWF, Slick was a perfect manager.

It's a rare talent that can leave the WWF but then become arguably even bigger when he was in Doom.

Just a shame he was around at a time when black wrestlers were held back and not allowed to advance.

Out of curiosity, how much would this lot be worth?

Someone selling it on an auction site here for approx £100, which seems steep based on the last time I saw how much Hasbros were going for.

Anywhere between £80 - £100 is about right IMO. A set of the three Demos (minus helmets) went for £50 two days ago. Honky with guitar is around a £12-£15 figure and the rest are about £5 each (maybe a few quid more for Warrior, Snuka and the Natural Disasters). It may be slightly less desirable only having one Bushwhacker / Rocker though.

Like with anything though it's all down to the market that week. Ebay always has a load of Hasbros for sale, but some weeks there are more than others pushing prices down slightly.

Other than Crush there's not any really rare figures in that lot, although what you do have is a bulk lot which is always a seller.

People collecting want the full set so buying bulk lots is the quickest and cheapest way often. £100 seems about spot-on (as long as P&P is too) but it only takes a couple of people who really want the full Demo set and helmets to push that price way over.

The one thing I will say though - Hasbros just seem to hold a good price and seem constantly popular.

When watching matches from the World of Sport era, I've noticed Kent Walton make some fleeting references to American and Japanese wrestling (Spiros Arion headlining MSG and even Vince McMahon being mentioned). Was there much in the way of coverage of US wrestling in the pre Sky era? I know WWF turned up on ITV and Screensport had AWA but what about before cable came around?

Don't quote me (there will be far bigger experts) but I think highlights of the Ali / Inoki fight may have been shown as part of WOS.

Also the Boxing and Wrestling News magazine was sold quite widely here from the 60's to the 70's which featured most US promotions.

The Hasbro UK letter on that link details "Ravishing Rick Rude (2nd Edition)" and "Jake the Snake Roberts (2nd Edition)" coming in assortment 4. Anyone know what that was about? I don't recall seeing two versions of either of these.

It could be that Edition actually means release. It looks like they were bulking up the assortments with older figures (something that was regularly done if they had extra inventory to shift) as it also mentions Brutus Beefcake and Big Boss Man (2nd Editions). Although these two did get a second figure it wasn't until a later series, and I would very much doubt they were planned for this series.

Was Big Boss Man ever, even once, on a b show, even in passing, ever referred to as Top Boss Man?

Back when my dad used to get the WWF recorded from Sky from a friend when I was about 8 years old, I seem to remember seeing him and the caption on the screen said "Top Boss Man".

Did this happen, or have I got the weirdest case of false memory syndrome?

I wonder if it was from one of the European tours - I seem to recall that the captions on some of the TV shows there (later shown on US TV shows) had a bit of dodgy translation at times.

I would have been well up for reading Stu's new book but i just looked on amazon and it's not available on kindle which is a shame as i really struggle to stay focused and motivated to read physical books (Part of my disability I'm not anti books or anything) Hopefully it will get put as a ebook sooner rather than later

I believe the book will be going to ebook. Stay tuned!

  7. Has any official footage ever surfaced of the Legends presentation that they held at Summerslam '92? I think it included Larry Hennig and Pat Patterson. I know there's been a bit of ropey fan-cam (with homophobic commentary) but it'd be great to see it as part of a full edit of the event on the Network.  I can't believe with all the cameras that day it wasn't recorded.

  8. Why was Wrestlemania VI held in Canada?

Was the WWF just hugely popular there in 1990? I know we got Summerslam '92 as the US business was in the shit, but I don't think it was too bad in 1990. It just seems strange when you had such a guaranteed success with Warrior vs Hogan.

I know Toronto isn't that far away from the US, but it would've put a lot of people off attending. Was it that it would boost PPV numbers, or maybe there wasn't many big arenas in the US that they could use?

  9. Stu Allen aka The Dominator from the UK's highly successful EWW promotion has a book out now. Interesting stories of going to Florida to train under Adrian Street in the early 90's, the late 90's / early 2000 UK industry, WWE Tough Enough trials etc.

You beat me to it as I was going to post the Hollywood Blondes. The only thing disappointing about this team  for me was the era they existed in.

Being in WCW, and for a limited time, they never got the chance to show their true potential, especially as there were limited opponents too. Imagine these two in the late 80's touring the indies and going to the AWA and WWF to take on teams like The Road Warriors, Midnight Express, The Rockers and the Hart Foundation.

  11. This isn't a selling post (honest!) So thought it could go here rather than the Classifieds.

There's a new wrestling magazine out titled 'Inside the Ropes'. It's got guys such as Fin Martin, Bill Apter and Brian Elliot behind it.

Wrestle Talk still seems to be going (albeit with most of the staff and features going over to Inside the Ropes) and Pro Wrestling Illustrated is still in print bi-monthly - so it's nice to see that in 2020 there's still a few wrestling publications hanging in there!

  12. Unconfirmed reports, but it sadly appears Joseph Laurinaitis aka Animal has passed away.

Incredibly sad news if true. The Road Warriors / LOD probably the greatest tag team in history are finally reunited.

RIP Joseph - you were an absolute legend and an all round good guy.
