  1. The battle for the UK continues between AEW and WWE, before both companies over egg the pudding leading to poorer numbers than expected and then both abandoning the country for the forseeable future and instead focusing on mainland Europe.

It's a real waste of talent isn't it. They had her take over WWF Mania and had her rename it The Sunny Show for a week and you can see why she owned 1996. A ridiculous amount of charm, sex appeal and charisma. It's insane how quickly it all took a turn.

I honestly thought at this time she had real potential to become a massive crossover star. She would've been perfect for one of those mid-90s comedy films that got put out at a rate of knots, or as a sitcom star. So sad, as had it happened her life would've been far happier I'm sure.

  3. So ol' Tammy is up in court today and potentially looking at 26 years:Ā https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox35orlando.com/news/tammy-sytch-wwe-star-to-be-sentenced-for-deadly-florida-dui-crash.amp

What a fucking life - the car crash is an analogy of her very existence.Ā

Her life would be far-fetched if it were a Hollywood movie script.Ā

So, do you feel sorry for her? Her own fault - or just another victim of the toxic world of wrestling. To be fair I'm just surprised she's not dead.

  4. Comedian Rob Beckett took his WWF Hasbros on 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown.

Dear old Kenneth Williams wrote in his infamous diaries "16/5/64 We motored down to Brighton. All clientele dreadful but the hotel is good. In the evening we went to a wrestling match. It was obviously rigged"

No pulling the wool over Kenny's eyes.

  5. Itā€™s mad to think that 31 years to the very day today (29thĀ August) that Wembley had its first wrestling event that everyone was talking about. I canā€™t say I thought it back then, but certainly in the last 15 years, what with the ā€˜Manias getting bigger, Ā I never thought weā€™d see another sell-out at the venue, unless WWE pulled out all the stops to get on of the major PPVā€™s over here.
    Ā
Quick question though ā€“ particularly for those who were there, who made up the audience for this weekendā€™s show?
    Ā
Wrestling was shit-hot in ā€™92, and even though there was no internet, it didnā€™t matter as the product was so strong ā€“ but these days the sport hasnā€™t got the same popularity. Obviously a lot of those in attendances were current fans, but was it lapsed fans? People just looking for a big event for a good day out, or did the hype of the event genuinely bring in new fans who wanted to check it out. Ā Ā
    Ā
I have to admit I was one of the sceptics who never thought theyā€™d get that sort of attendance in for it, but really glad they did. It shows again the commitment and strength of the UK fanbase, and hopefully weā€™ll get even more.
    Ā
Question is, with 2024 already announced will the WWE try and counter it? In some ways I donā€™t think HHH is quite so bothered, but had crazy bastard Vince still been in charge heā€™d be booking Wembley now and trying to get the AEW ITV slot.
    Ā
But yeah, 31 years to the day and we got this brilliant weekend again. Never thought Iā€˜d see it. Ā Ā Ā

  6. I can't believe CM Punk couldn't figure out Uber, or get a cab.

Either he took the tube as he's 'man of the people' and had circumstances been different, that would've been a news story (everytime someone plays the O2 and takes the tube it gets huge column inches - despite most of the carriage being full of their entourage) however with what has happened, it was easy and convenient to flip the story to now make Punk look like a victim.

Or is it, and I'm sure I've read it before, that he's notoriously tight, proper taking teabags from hotel rooms tight, and rather use the tube than an Uber (if it wasn't a hassle to work out he'd probably taken the bus as it's cheaper) to save his pennies.

Never thought I'd see a 'Casket (Coffin) match' let alone having Sting participate. Can't say I know much about the other team in it. A lot of mental coffins containing sporting hopes and dreams in Wembley but imagine this would be the first physical one ever to grace the hallowed turf

FTR vs Young Bucks will be a cracker and having 'Carry on my Wayward Son' will be epicĀ

Unfamiliar with some of the women in the Championship tournament but might as well give it a lookĀ

There was one there in '92.Ā

Have we got any wrestling mad UK celebs that could get involved? Or are we going to get stuck with Jack Whitehall again?

Eamonn Holmes - he's not up to much. I remember the first WWF show in London '89, the best we could muster up was a couple of stars from Hi-de-HiĀ

Is Ā£17.99 ā€œreasonableā€ for a book in 2023? Genuine question.

For this one, yes. Over the years I've bought and sold quite a few copies of this book, always making a nice little profit. Cheapest I think I bought it at was Ā£7 and the most expensive I've sold it for was Ā£45.

I wish I had bought just more than my own copy when the Works were selling them for Ā£4 brand new not long after it just came out.

Never mind, I thought I'd strike it rich with copies of Hogan's 2nd book instead.....still got them!! šŸ™„

A Hasbro-style Gangrel that I pre-ordered last February arrived today, and it got me wondering what I'd have done if they hadn't lost the WWF licence when they did.

I had a decent if incomplete collection (still do), and starting over with Jakks figures that weren't of a compatible scale didn't appeal. Being around 13 it was the right excuse at the right time to stop buying toys, but a continuing Hasbro line featuring Diesel, Vader, Mankind and a "proper" Owen would've been hard to resist.

Maybe I'd have been stuck buying them into adulthood, sneaking Rikishi and Val Venis into uni halls after a clandestine trip to Woolies. Would I have bought as many N64 and PS2 games if DX, The Rock and Stone Cold were hitting the shelves with spring-loaded signature moves?

Those of you who did keep (or even start) collecting in the post-Hasbro era - have your figure buying days been continuous, or were they interrupted for budgetary/stigma reasons and resumed later on? And if the style changed again completely next year, would you draw a line under your pursuit of new releases, or build a new shelf for its next phase?

I too was a 'Hasbro Kid' - got a fairly nice set (along with the WCW Galoobs) of which I'm missing only about half a dozen. I definitely would have carried on buying them (in fact in the last decade I starting buying the more elusive and expensive ones I missed first time round - eg. Dusty Rhodes).

The Jakks BCA were, as you say, out of scale so never bought those - and they looked like a downgrade on the Hasbros. I remember seeing shelves of them around '99 when they were in full flow and seriously considering starting a collection. I have looked in the last few years of actually starting a collection (their weird cartoonish nature, and the fact there's a number of names that haven't got other figures appeals to me). But what it comes down too (other than can I really justify spending the money) is what I'd with them. I don't have space to display them (my Hasbro collection is in boxes in a cupboard) so I'd just have them in storage.Ā

Years back when the WWE Classic Superstars line came out I was seriously tempted again - but they were so big in their packaging, I had no idea how I'd store them.Ā

I did consider an LJN collection - but those are so pricey as most ebay listings are US based, plus they were so badly made that loose versions are usually battered to fuck.

I think maybe it's the thrill of the chase I'm swayed by, like all collectors, to track down the rare pieces. But to be brutally honest to myself, I can think of better things to get excited about.Ā

Although saying that, having a fondness for all things Hasbro, I have bought all of the new Retros and the similar product by Chella toys.

I did notice those new Superstar Walmart figures (similar to the AWA Remcos) and even bought a couple when I was in the States last year, but so far my willpower is good......

Anyone else started a new collection on a whim? Is there anyone on here who was too young for the Hasbros first time but been lured in by their 5" plastic wonder?Ā

  12. To be honest, this was always going to happen. As so many have pointed out, he really is a mad old bastard! What has he been doing since leaving? A man whoā€™s workaholic lifestyle is extreme even for most workaholics. Letā€™s not forget that all that coke and the steroids in the 80ā€™s has probably fucked his brain up. There was no way he was going to sit at home all day. He probably drove to the office everyday and sat in his car outside until security went over to see him, leading him to drive off in a screech of car tires. Only to repeat it the next day, and the next day.....

IMO Vince is definitely of a ā€˜if I canā€™t have it, no-one canā€™ mentality. Heā€™d probably prefer to stand atop Titan Towers, with it all burning beneath him like James Cagney (it could be that this is the plan ā€“ hence why theyā€™re getting a new HQ just ahead of his inferno meltdown!)

What is the biggest shocker is that this is one of the best storylines WWE have done in ages, intrigue, emotion and sudden swerves, but unfortunately itā€™s not even on their shows! Ā Ā

Another option for larger orders is to wait until Ringside Collectibles have their crazy sales because even with paying their insane shipping prices it works out less than online from the UK which is wild.

    Ā

This is what I did recently to finish off my Mattel retro collection. Despite the postage cost (which I didn't think was too bad) it crazily worked out so much cheaper than buying them on ebay in the UK - even with the crap exchange rate!!Ā

  14. What If. ā€¦Sky TV had never had WWF as part of their programming? Would ITV have done a deal with Vince to have it shown in the WOS spot? They had WWF featured matches as part of that before. Would Channel 4 have picked it up as late-night cult programming?

If ITV had picked it up then the exposure it wouldā€™ve been given would have been huge, but would it have sunk quicker? Iā€™m of the opinion that the fact that it was on SKY, with a lesser audience than mainstream TV, gave it a slow burn popularity over about 3 years, rather than the usual 1 year that most fads have.

Or would Sky have picked it up later, meaning tje boom period would've been the piss-poor 93-95 era.

Would the British Bulldog have featured so prominently without a UK presence?Ā Ā Ā
