  1. How much of this stuff is potentially sitting in the vault? I reckon a lot was filmed because I can imagine Vince being one of those who was obsessed with wanting to view footage back.

Interesting that it's always been said that the match in '86 where Dynamite Kid knackered his back was never filmed - yet in the fan-cam footage you can see a cameraman climb up on the ring steps.

  2. It is sad to see. Although I'm no great collector of WWE DVD releases (I really have no inclination to watch, let alone re-watch, most of the PPVs they churn out these days) I have picked up some of the sets such as 'Unreleased' and those on specific stars such as Warrior and Savage. I also get the Wrestlemania set each year too, mainly as its a pretty good package with the HOF included.

I'm just glad I've kept my hundreds of DVD-Rs of years and years of wrestling from all sorts of different promotions - my own unedited network.

It'll be strange if it all just stops considering for many of us home video releases were what fanned our wrestling fandom (cue the Silvervision memories)

  3. The winner of the Royal Rumble getting a title shot at Wrestlemania. You know pretty much who is going to win. So its really just counting down the entrants.

Why not use it to strap a rocket to someone or better yet, stop taking it so seriously. The Rumble could be their big fun event - the random participants, old timers hell even celebs (keeps them from stinking up real matches). The Rumble is after all not about how well you can wrestle, its how you can throw someone over a top rope. It should be played for fun as anyone can win (like Hacksaw and Studd).

If you want to do a winner challenges for Wrestlemania - let them win a King of the Ring tournament. At least it seems fairly believable that they would be a challenger for the title if they've actually wrestled

Wrestlers wearing their own t-shirts! Just fucking stop it. Like a walking ad for the WWE Shop. Bring back the days of Arn Anderson wearing a v-neck and the Warrior in a leather jacket.

  4. The wrestling figure you never thought you needed is finally here:

Easy, Easy etc. - but in all seriousness it's pretty awesome to be able to have a collection of WOS legends, never thought I'd see the day. Here's hoping for a Kendo next.

  5. For me it was this:

Some of it was definitely because I was a mere 13 years old, so was caught up in the hype and false believability of it all, but more that this was just huge. The WWF was holding one of their big shows in the UK, in a sold-out Wembley Stadium and it's hard to explain to anyone who wasn't around in that era, but wrestling was literally everywhere - in a pre-internet age where it wasn't just relegated to on-line, it was mainstream - in a big way!

Every shop stocked magazines, videos, t-shirts, sticker albums and every type of merch (Woolworths was just stocked full of WWF items) even TV shops like Radio Rentals ans Currys displayed WWF posters in their windows because it was such a selling tool for SKY TV.

Mainstream TV, magazines and the newspapers featured wrestling stories and it was truly the biggest thing in the country - everyone was embracing it.

So to have this match, with the biggest British star and in the biggest British venue, was enough to give us all goosebumps. But when he won it was truly a 'Rocky' moment.

But now in hindsight it gives me even more goosebumps knowing what came next. After the hype, publicity and being part of something so exciting - this was the end of the dream. That moment that the Bulldog held that belt up in front of a white hot crowd was not only the end of his journey - but for wrestling in this country too. It reached it's peak and after that there was only one way for it to go. Fast forward a year and you'd be hard-pressed to find a magazine in shops when it got to Summerslam '93.

So this match always gives me goosebumps for an era that I recall with such fondness. Ah - the joys of the innocence of youth.

  6. There's a sad news report today that 'The Funker' is being moved to assisted living due to his dementia becoming increasingly worse.

Incredibly sad news as he always seemed pretty indestructible.

  7. Reports coming in that Del Wilkes aka The Patriot has sadly passed away today. Although not a huge star he had a short mainstream run in the WWF as well as stints in the AWA, WCW and Japan.

  8. Not a cartoon, but another crossover with modern poo culture and WWE were the Ghostbusters figures they released a few years back.

Oh - and I think there was a Cena / Scooby Doo double-pack to tie in with a cartoon film.

They’re just trying to be down with the kids.

Young ‘uns these days no longer way they’re a fan of someone, they just say they “stan” someone or something, referring to the overzealous fan in Eminem’s song.

God it was bad enough when the yoofs were abbreviating words - now they're actually making them longer....and making even less sense!

  10. Couldn't see this posted anywhere else (apologies if it has and I've missed it) and there doesn't seem to be a 'minor news' thread anymore.

A new TV show about the world of wrestling is coming to Starz (I liked their King of Harlem series)

    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6554240/

A bit from the IMDB, but a few pics of a grubby looking arena set have been released today. May be worth a look......

Piper-Brown is now off the original non-Peacock WWE Network as well.

I'm fully aware about the issues of 'blackface' but ridiculously wasn't the reason Piper did this (at least in interviews / the WWF magazine iirc) that the match wasn't about it being black vs white - and that Piper was proving that point.

The free version of the Network has put a Wrestlemania block in, with a catch. The first 6 Manias, 9, 11 and 24 through to last year are all free to watch but 7,8,10 and 12-23 are all locked

That must have only just changed as I watched 7 and 8 earlier this week on the free version.

  13. In 1990 a kid told me in the first year of high school that at an event Sgt. Slaughter had come to the ring and shot someone in the crowd with the machine gun he was carrying. Being 11, and from a small backwater town, I thought this was highly likely as a). I'd seen Hollywood films where apparently everyone in the US was tooled up and gunfights happened on the regular and b). This was the WWF where quite literally anything could happen apparently and the heels weren't afraid to do sink to any heinous levels.

Also a kid in my class told me his cousin had a 'Rugged' Ronnie Garvin Hasbro figure - I mean of all the wrestlers he could've bullshitted about - Ronnie fucking Garvin!!!

  14. For me it was the OG of wrestling sticker albums, the black covered WWF edition that came out in 1990.

It's crazy to think that although I'd seen the WWF in the late 80's, I didn't really get into it until late 1990. By that time I'd just started high school and, not having Sky at home, was trying to find out who might possibly tape some shows for me. So for me all I had was the magazine and the sticker album which I started collecting - despite not even being able to watch what I was collecting!

  15. A little off topic, but I think still worth mentioning, the concept of the winner of the Royal Rumble going on to face the champion at Wrestlemania.

For me it's perhaps one of the worst as usually you can see the build-up of where they want to go at Wrestlemania, so it sort makes the Rumble match a bit redundant with the winner pretty much a given way ahead of time (except a few rare occasions). It's a shame as the Rumble could be a great opportunity to put over someone who doesn't necessarily fall into the world title picture. It also would mean that longer storylines could build up without having to overcome the Rumble obstacle too.
