I'd love to see a reverse of this thread, Like take Benoit for example, and Guerrero. Both were on nothing matches at 19, then main evented 20.

If we’re talking reverses, Bradshaw being in a nothing four way tag filler match at 20, followed by going into 21 as the longest reigning WWE Champion in years sticks out.

I didn't want either of the blokes to win tonight. I'm just waiting for Wes Vs Chung next time. That could be a cracking contest.

It should have been Chung destroying the competition and walking straight into the final. That’s what I wanted to see tonight. I know injuries can’t be avoided but we shouldn’t have an Eliminator in the semi final where I don’t care if either of them wins.

He was bordering on too geordie for me, and I am good at understanding accents. The septics will struggle to understand him I tellt ya.

Whisht! Lad, haad yor gob. He’s gaan canny and it’s a thing of beauty. It’s not too Geordie til he changes his music to Blaydon Races. And I’ll pop for that ‘n al.

  4. PAC starting his promo with “A tellt ya!” is a beautiful thing.

I hope the trouble he’s looking for leads to a Wembley match with Danielson or something equally good for him.

  5. 10 points - SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth

(the best wrestling games are this, HCTP and All Stars. I could have gone with any of them, but SYM was at the peak of my WWE fandom)

9 - The Last Of Us

(it had to be high. Engrossing story, big time emotional investment)

    8 - Tekken Tag Tournament

    (the reason I wanted a PS2)

    7 - Spider-Man PS4

(it’s very rare I 100% a game, especially in the last decade or so. I’ve done it for every game in this series. I love them)

    6 - Pokemon Red

(Venusaur, Vaporeon, Raichu, Pidgeot, Mewtwo. I still remember my team)

    5 - Guitar Hero 2

(it should be the Aerosmith one if I’m completely honest with myself)

    4 - Premier Manager 98

(Like with choice 1, this was at the peak of my football fandom and had everything I wanted)

3 - Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fuelled

(My wife and I played this nightly as part of our evening routine for about two years. And then I lost the disc when the PS4 broke. Gutting)

    2 - Uncharted

(could have been any of them as I tend to play them as a series, but let’s say the first one)

1 - Star Wars Galaxy Of Heroes.

(I hate myself for how many hours I’ve wasted on this bloody game)

  6. TWC definitely opened my eyes to so much wrestling - it’s probably what made me a wrestling fan rather than a WWE fan. I didn’t feel the urge to pay for Sky Sports anymore - not when Rollerball Rocco and Jushin Liger and AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson and Kenta Kobashi and CM Punk and Doug Williams were all there, free to watch.

When it first started, from the Friendly TV tests onwards, I watched everything. I soon figured out what was for me and what wasn’t but it was probably the channel I had on most for a good couple of years. We got some really great stuff thanks to The Wrestling Channel.

  7. Mercedes, Okada and Ospreay all arriving in AEW so close to each other feels like it’s the start of a new chapter for them as a promotion. Hopefully it results in more focus on the women on the shows, and more episodes of TV where the cameras can show both sides of the arena.

Did not like her music at all though. WWE should never have taken the classical version away from Gunther, it worked perfectly for him. Doesn’t suit Mercedes at all. And I’m already sick of “CEO”!

  8. Don’t speak too loudly when talking about AEW having too many World Champion calibre performers. They may hear you and create yet another title.

It’s a nice problem to have. Swerve should absolutely be champion. But if Joe keeps it, I’m okay. If Hangman gets it first, sure thing. Ospreay as Champion? I could see it. Okada? From the way he’s been brought in, it makes sense.

And to think, last summer we were quite happy with the prospect of Adam Cole winning the belt at Wembley.

  9. Danielson vs Ospreay is happening… PAC is back (and coming after Okada!) … crazy bumpfest main event … Collision business is picking up! Yes please.

Good bit of angry “don’t hit me with a kendo stick” stuff from Toa Liona too. I have to ask the question. The question. Why was Toa Liona never part of Meat Madness? What happened to kill Meat Madness? A whole series of Dark Side Of The Ring dedicated to this, please. I will not stop banging this drum. The meat was there. THE MEAT WAS THERE!

  10. I said it about Dutch last week. Now it is the turn of The Butcher. Why was The Butcher never part of Meat Madness?

I grow more and more convinced something deeply deeply wrong happened with Meat Madness. They announced the match. They made it just a Triple Threat. Then they abandoned it entirely claiming not enough meat. But there’s clearly, clearly enough meat. WHAT HAPPENED TO MEAT MADNESS.

  11. They might have only had him for a short time, but WWE could surely have done more with Monty Brown than whatever ‘Marcus Cor Von’ was.

Around the same time, maybe it was rose-tinted ‘Paul Heyman Booking OVW’ glasses but Johnny Jeter had potential that we would never get to see once he became Spirit Squad Johnny. Maybe he was a bit small for mid-00s WWE and it was a wrong place wrong time kind of deal.

Speaking of Heyman’s OVW, Sandow peaked down there, coming out to ‘Brick House’ with Beth Phoenix on one arm and Ariel on the other.

Best theme - My Way hands down although the closing packages from 20 to 24 had some belters too.

Yes, I used to love the end-of-show video packages they’d do. 17 being the best one, of course. I feel like X-8 didn’t and that was one of the reasons I considered it so disappointing at the time.

Speaking of X-8, probably my favourite ever bit of wrestling merch I own is the commemorative magazine hyping up that show. The second half of the book was just photo pages of the entire roster - including my first glimpses of Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton - and the first half had two page recaps of every WrestleMania from 1-17 with photos and full match line ups. I’d never seen these early shows but I could have recited the major happenings and match order of most of them due to the number of times I read this mag. Made Mania feel so special and important.

  13. First WrestleMania watched? X-Seven - I’d got properly back into wrestling the previous summer, though I remember seeing the ‘McMahon In Every Corner’ VHS in Woolworths for most of late 2000. A friend at school who had Sky taped 2001’s show, I borrowed it, and it’s never been beaten.

Favourite WrestleMania? X-Seven - it’s got everything you could hope for from a WrestleMania.

Have you ever been to WrestleMania? Nope. I don’t think I ever will. It’d be fun but I don’t have a strong wish to fly all the way to America for the wrestling.

    Best/Worst WrestleMania matches.

    Best - Savage/Warrior at VII.

    TLCII at X-Seven.

    Undertaker/Triple H at XXVII.

By this pattern, 37 should have had a match I loved too. Belair vs Banks was pretty great I guess.

    Worst matches - Bret/Vince at 26, Cole/Lawler at 27.

    Best/Worst WrestleMania moments.

Best: Savage and Elizabeth reunite. The ladder spear and four-table bump in TLCII. Undertaker kicking out on 1 at 27. And so I don’t repeat myself anymore… The Streak ending at WM30.

Worst: Trump at 23. Maggot ring at 33. The run of main events where the crowd were either dead, annoyed or deflated by the result - 22, 32-35. 36 as a whole, I can’t say it’s ‘worst’ but it’d be the last WrestleMania I’d want to watch again.

The end of WMXX is both the best and worst.

    Favourite WrestleMania theme and/or intro?

Repesting myself again, but it’s ’My Way’. Although I have a soft spot for ‘Big Time’.

    Favourite WrestleMania announcer call?

Anything from Bobby Heenan during the Savage/Elizabeth reunion. As has been mentioned, I could take the whole of X-Seven - JR/Heyman and Heenan/Okerlund.

”The streak… is over” is probably the peak of Cole’s PPV career.

Sadly he was done the minute he was above his tag team. Look at the monster names he's trying to compete with! It was never going to happen anytime soon.

It’s a shame. There’s something there, and you’d think having so many midcard titles would prevent a Santana getting lost in the shuffle. He was someone who might have actually benefitted from a Jericho feud or a random Owen tournament, but he was done for as soon as they decided the Ortiz feud would happen exclusively on Rampage.

Sting was my Hogan as far as having a favourite in WCW, so it was emotional for me as a near 40 year old ‘little Stinger’ seeing him going out on an absolute high last night. The whole match was just perfection, from the entrance with his sons as the Surfer and Wolfpac versions of himself to the boys’ incredible attempts at the Stinger Splash to Darby’s incredible stupid glass bump to the Icon getting the win with the Deathlock all soundtracked by two absolute GOATs of commentary (and Excalibur)

It’s a shame one of those absolute GOATs of commentary got annoyed when Darby dove the Bucks into the announce table at the very beginning of the match. I’m not sure if that was him saying “shit!” just as it happened. Understandable reaction given his health issues, but he never quite managed to get into gear after that - what was the little rant about pronouns for?

  16. The one time I skip the preshow and PAC has a return vignette on it! I love his little Newcastle videos so much. That’s the High Level Bridge! He’s sat at Grey’s Monument! I was there yesterday!

The women’s tag should have replaced the Scramble on the main show, Christian is great, I love watching Eddie with a big crowd behind him, Takeshita and Ospreay are ridiculous (what a match), I’d have gone even further with the world title match and have Hangman laugh in Swerve’s face after the match, Darby’s bump made me feel ill, Sting is fantastic. Very good show.

  17. Nigel was having a good time on this show. Floored by Mariah May paying him a bit of attention, and then confirming that Brian Cage is in fact Christian Cage’s cousin during the main event.
