Kenny McBride
The other thing to remember is that WWE's buyrate problems are clearly not caused by a limited TV audience. There's about 750,000 people in the US who are prepared to spend money on WWE PPVs (as shown by WrestleMania), but they are doing as little as 125,000 for some shows. If you assume that a certain number - say 250,000 - of those WrestleMania buyers are 'one big show a year' customers, that still leaves 375,000 people who could be persuaded to buy your shows but aren't doing so. If you got them on board once a month, that's something like ninety million dollars a year that you could get by concentrating on building up PPVs rather than increasing ratings. There are something like five million people who watch WWE regularly. WWE has an established culture by which its viewers understand and accept the idea of paying forty dollars a month to watch a big event if you build it up sufficiently. If you look at those figures and think the problem is that not enough people watch the free TV shows, you're really missing the point. People talk about Vince McMahon as a genius for all the money WWE's making today, but given the set-up, market and business model, the amount of potential income he's blowing is mindboggling.Do they make more money on the PPV's now there are more of them or would they have made more if they had kept to say just Rumble, Mania, KOTR, SSlam, S.Series? They'd probably get more impressive buy rates on the big shows if that was all there were, but at the moment it's still more beneficial to run a lot of shows and make a bit less from each one. There is a point at which show become unprofitable, but with so much international PPV now it's relatively unlikely that that will be a serious danger any time soon.Well, unless they run another December To Dismember. insert_name_here
OK so i'm watching 1PW on DVD last night and Steve Corino was using this awesome Techno/industrial remix of "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff does anyone know who did this version?
NBT
Is it the show where he wins the title? I was there for that and I think it was just 'O Fortuna' at the start and then 'Fire' by Scooter afterwards, wasn't it?
insert_name_here
No it wasn't the one where he won the title it was from Know Your Enemy i think.
Magnum Milano
The latest Fighting Spirit claims that Wrestlemania 23 did over a million buys. Is this true?Meltzer reported that the early estimate was 1.2 million buys. That was both US and International buys.

Also has any other genre (UFC, boxing etc) surpassed 1.2m buys, meaning it could be THE most successful PPV show of all time?

Interesting to see that 7 of the top 10 of Boxing's most successful PPVs were stronger than WM 23.

Larryboy
The Tyson vs Lewis ppv seems to be missing from that list, it generally gets credited with 1.8 million buys, making it the 2nd biggest ppv ever, Unless De La Hoya vs Mayweather has passed, I've heard it rumoured it drew 2 million plus buys but not seen anything concrete yet.As far as i know, the biggest UFC ppv did about 1 million buys. This would be the biggest drawing wrestling ppv ever, however they have added international buys since Wrestlemania 17, which did roughly 1 million buys just in America. Finlay
It would be interesting to see what WM 23 drew compared with WM 17 with the international buyrates subtracted. I was always under the impression that UFC PPVs were trouncing their WWE counterparts as well. Although, thinking about it I suppose they are if you take WM 23 out of the equation. Paid Members JNLister Posted June 16, 2007 Paid Members Share Posted June 16, 2007 (edited) UFC buyrates are destroying WWE at the moment. Their lowest in the past year (Silva vs Lutter) did more than WWE's second highest (Rumble). In the US the majority UFC shows are running anywhere between 500,000 and 1.2 million, while Backlash (the first tri-branded 'minor' show) did 125,000.Domestically I believe WM17 did right around a million while WM23 was somewhere in the 600-700,000 range. That is nothing short of a disaster for a loaded card and in retrospect one of the best PPV's of 2007
wrestleme
Ok , I've just been watching a DVD called Dragongate : revolution and theres a match at theend of Revolution 4 which starts off like it would be a Royal Rumble sorta thing , with wrestlers comingin at regular intervals . It then gets a bit weird and it seems that for the most part of the matchthe majority of the wrestlers have to stand still while 2 fight and one is eliminated , then someone else moves while the majority stand still , entertaining but baffling . Can anyone give a explanation of what this match was and what the rules were for it please ?
