THE NORTH WEST IS THE BEST!

COME AND SEE THE NORTH WEST WEEKENDER!

The North West of England has long been a hotbed for professional wrestling and that great tradition continues to this day.

Just think at the names who have come out of the North West to grace rings in the UK and even worldwide over the years. Billy Riley. Giant Haystacks. Marc Rocco. Marty Jones. The British Bulldogs. Robbie Brookside. William Regal. Wade Barrett. The list goes on and on.

These days three wrestling promotions are carrying on in the footsteps of those who came before them to ensure the North West remains a mecca where travelling wrestling fans can enjoy their British grappling fix.

Grand Pro Wrestling of Wigan, XWA in Morecambe and FutureShock in Stockport have all been running for the best part of a decade, and in that time have all entertained their legions of fans with regular shows featuring a healthy dose of entertaining characters, gripping storylines and great wrestling.

Now the three promotions are working together. It's a refreshing alliance in these days where it's often dog eat dog as promoters battle for the same slice of the pie amidst a backdrop of sleaze and mistrust.

But GPW, XWA and Futureshock run regular 'Triple Headers' where the three companies promote on consecutive days - GPW on a Friday, XWA on a Saturday and FutureShock on a Sunday. This gives die-hard fans the chance to enjoy 72 hours of non-stop wrestling!

The next North West Weekender starts on Friday, October 7 when GPW presents Friday Night Thriller V at The Rose Club (formerly the Monaco Ballroom) in Hindley, Wigan, doors at 7pm. The main event sees North West stalwart 'Dangerous' Damon Leigh defend his GPW Heavyweight Title against the conniving leader of The Masterplan stable, Dirk Feelgood. Also expect high-flying action when El Ligero, Danny Hope, Noam Dar and Dylan Roberts square off in a four-way, the winner of which will take on rising North West star 'The Grappler' Jack Gallagher for the GPW British Title.

Then on Saturday, October 8, The Carleton club in Morecambe is the venue for XWA's traditional season-closer, LastFight at the Prom. The main event is a star-studded six man tag pitting The Ascension (Alex Shane), Colossus and 'Showstealer' Nathan Cruz against Sam Slam, Stixx and Johnny Phere. 'RockStar' Spud battles Axl Rage, Joey Hayes meets Max Angelus and UKFF50 number one pick El Ligero duels with CJ Banks and Ricky J McKenzie in a Triple Threat in other matches on the show. Doors 7pm.

And the weekender closes on Sunday night, October 9, when FutureShock presents its sixth annual Trophy Tournament at the Masonic Guildhall in Stockport. The winner of the eight-man tournament will become the number one contender to the FutureShock Championship, currently held by Dave Rayne. Already announced for the first round of the tournament are CJ Banks, Zack 'Diamond' Gibson, Sean Daniels and the 400lb Cyanide. Doors 5.30pm.
