Anyone have any zany ideas for a sitcom?

The background - I had a dream a few month back, where I was writing and producing a very avant garde sitcom. The premise was banal beyond banal, a bunch of people who work at a country club, and get up to 'shenanigans'. In fact, the characters were so aware of the banality of it that when the shenanigans were happening, they would hand out cards with shenanigans written on them.

There was an intimation that they were actually actors trapped in the filming of the sitcom, which had been cancelled - occasionally, they would stop and look in shock and horror at the camera, and at one point a character tried to vault the fence at the back of the set, only to emerge leaping over the fence at the front of the set.

I decided to run with it, but I don't think the waking mind does these concepts as well. My two ideas so far are:

- Episode 5 would be entitled "Pilot", and would show the events of the pilot, which is a parody of a pilot - different actors for some roles, actors in other roles and with other motivations. Also, a less oppressive atmosphere, as this is just the pilot, and not the existential hell that the characters have become trapped in.

- One of the episodes would proceed with the usual banality, but at the 16 minute mark, a female character would slap one of the guys for being 'fresh', but the slap would messily decapitate the guy. The rest of the episode would be horrible pandemonium and panic, breaking down into screaming and people rushing hither and thither... which would the title of the episode.

Maybe something about a mature student. I wouldn't base it entirely on campus, but his status as someone who's something of an anomaly in all his peer groups should be emphasised - whether it be the younger students at university, the lecturers, or just his mates with full-time jobs.

In terms of tone, I'd go somewhere between Teachers and Curb Your Enthusiasm - like Teachers, I'd want it to be completely irreverent and debunk all the popular cliches of university life, and like Curb, I'd want his 'anomaly' status to be broadly based on the inherent ridiculousness of everyone around him.

A sitcom set in a job centre following some of the staff and customers. For instance one character could be a job seeker who gets a different job each week, each more inappropriate than the last.

A sitcom set in a post-appocalyptic future, but in a very 'English' way. So there's are hint towards battles with robot terminators etc, but the main characters are keeping their stiff upper lip and just complaining about the racket the lasers are making.

A 'the day today' style show, but set in a watchdog type show.

I love this idea - "Rain Stopped Play"

Me and my mate actually started writing a sitcom called Sitcom, which was to be a mockumentary style affair shot without a laughter track, following the lives of two aspiring sitcom writers who have been commissioned to write a series for the BBC. We follow their struggles to come up with ideas, frequent arguments and eventually they settle on trying to write a (hardly groundbreaking) show revolving around the on-off relationship between two of their best friends, and a never ending cycle of cameo characters. In the end the BBC reject the script the two have written, but air the documentary they have filmed of the writing process anyway.

So me and my mate were sat around night after night over cups of tea/coffee, trying to write a sitcom about two lads writing a sitcom. After the first few arguments about character development/episode synopsi/dialogue... it started writing itself. We might finish it one day.

Nowadays I'm taking on the hardly-original idea of a sitcom set in a bank. In the words of Mr Mackey, write about what you know.

'A Jew Too Many' - a sitcom about a pair of Jewish friends stuck in a concentration camp and all their mad-cap plans to escape. Starring Jim Davidson as 'The Warden'

Not really a sitcom, but I'd love to see a porno based on 'Last Action Hero' get made. The male lead has a 'magical' golden ticket which can transport him to any movie where he fucks the shit out of whatever famous female leads are in the movie.

I had an idea for one the other day. Well not a full blown idea more a vague sense of something I should write which I plan on fleshing out this weekend. It would center on the lives of crew members behind one of those cheap phone in Babestation style shows. Fleshing Out might not be a bad name for it, actually.

My other grand plan is for sitcom Spinal Tap but parodying an avant garde European synthpop outfit as opposed to overblown RocknRoll. It's basically an extended idea of a skit we shot last year which was a simple ten minute backstage interview with a male/female duo who went under the name 'Flaccid Melody' as they prepared for their upcoming World Defeathering tour.

The tone I'm imagining is pretty much Absoloutely Fabulous in terms of the characters being absurd, drug guzzling, overgrown spazzos.

I had an idea... it died of loneliness :(

Kinda seriously, my big idea was a sitcom set in a run down pub called 'The Dog and Taxidermist'. Basically, a group of friends meet up in the pub for all manner of events, Friday night, Football game, Quiz night, funeral, etc. Just recapping on the disasterous events of the day or where they've just come from.
