Chaka Demus Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 In the past if I'm ordering from the US I get them to send it as a "gift" and it escapes VAT charges. Â If the parcel is actually there and waioting for you, you pretty much need to pay it or you won't get them.

Paid Members JNLister Posted December 30, 2010 Paid Members Posted December 30, 2010 You can't just pay the customs fee over the phone or by cheque. Somebody has to be physically present to pick up the parcel at the point of entry into the UK, fill out the paperwork and, if requested by customs officials, open up the package for inspection. If the Royal Mail didn't do this, you'd have to do it yourself.
